== Editing logos out of the picture ==

Hello Mr Yunshui, I had written couple of article related to electrical motor controllers before and for images I had asked copyrights from one company and they allowed the pictures for wiki , it seems that one of the editor got agrivated by seeing the logo and edited out the logo making it blank, and again the company which had lended the pictures were asking if they had given of the rights to edit also without permission (as no atribution was made that it had belonged to them ). so I am in kind of jam now , so what to do ?

As far as Wikipedia is concerned, logos are usually used under [[WP:Fair use|Fair use]], meaning that they are only placed in articles where the company's logo needs to be illustrated (because no free alternative could exist). If a company releases its logo as part of a free image, they give permission for that logo to be altered and reused by others - including commercially - which, as a brand, is an extremely silly thing to do. The horse has bolted by this point, but since Jojalazzo sensibly removed the logo, and since the version of the image that contained it has been deleted, their corporate image should be safe.

Hi Yunshui, I'd like to take up an issue that you raised on [[User talk:Cartel82]]: If I get you right, one shouldn't copy Wikipedia articles into user space without attribution. For the copying into user space, I use something like ''make copy for rewrite''. This of course does not keep the page history, but then I do not intend to ever move that user space draft over an existing article.

The issue is that our students should currently not yet mess with main space content, you have seen for yourself what the outcome can be. So I fear that this is exactly what I told them to do: Copy the article into user space and make their improvements there. :The basic problem with copying an article to userspace without attribution is that the student is then effectively claiming to have written the pre-existing text (the first edit will read: "User:Student ''created page with "Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia (Afrikaans: Republiek van Namibië, German: About this sound Republik Namibia (help·info)), is a country..."'', which makes it appear that the text is their own work). Because of Wikipedia's [[Wikipedia:Copyrights|copyright policy]], this is a no-no - attribution has to be given to the original author of the text. A simple, if minimal, solution is to include a direct wikilink to the original in the first edit summary, e.g. "''Text copied from [[Namibia]]''" - this then means that future readers can see the date at which the text was copied and evaluate how much of it was created by other editors at [[Namibia]]. A better solution is to use the {{tlx|copied}} template (full syntax at the template link), which goes on the talkpage of the draft and establishes what was copied, when and from where. This provides the necessary attribution and avoids any copyright issues.

:# The first issue is, we cannot ask students to all create new articles, because in its third year the project has produced quite a number of them, and red links are getting more difficult to find, and to make blue. We therefore allow (encourage, actually) to improve existing articles.
:# The second issue is, depending on the news coverage of a particular period we always have certain "hot topics" that are chosen by dozens of students. So apart from the situation that many students will mess up an article in main space with the skills they currently have, the exercise becomes impossible to mark if a whole cohort of students, sometimes not even logged in, makes changes to the same article. The page history of [[Johanna Benson]] is a small example of that, but the page history of [[Oshakati]] is worse.

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions is a record label with over a dozen acts signed to it, as well as an American distributor for other record labels abroad.  Why was the page for this legitimate company deleted?  In other words, it physically presses, distributes, and sells physical copies of CDs, thus it is no different in operation than more mainstream heavy metal record labels (such as Nuclear Blast Records or Relapse Records).

This was all listed on the Wikipedia page, and the information was referenced as well.  There is an official website for the company, but Wikipedia apparently rejects the comoj domain for spam, thus I cannot use it as a reference; however, the link to that website can be found on the Horror Pain Gore Death Production metal-archives page located at http://www.metal-archives.com/labels/Horror_Pain_Gore_Death_Productions.

Sorry about the user page revision, I just wanted the information visible for the following reason that I posted on the talk page of another admin who's involved:

User [[User:Kevin12xd|Kevin12xd]] seems to be up to his old tricks. In the past he has committed various acts of minor vandalism, and was blocked from editing (by you, I believe). Now that he's been re-instated, he's made [[User_talk:InternetMeme#Hello.2C_InternetMeme.21|this edit to my userpage]], and one or two other random things (see [[Special:Contributions/Kevin12xd|his edit history]]. He then deleted the content of his talk page, presumably to remove evidence of the disruption he's caused. Apart from adding information to other golf-course articles, a simple way to find linkable pages is to do a text search within Wikipedia - type "~Mike Strantz" into the search bar and the extra tilde will cause the software to find all instances of the text string "Mike Strantz". (Actually, don't bother - I'll leave that sentence in as a useful tip for the future, but having just run that search myself, there's only the [[Mike Strantz]] page and the wikilink that you added to [[Forrest Fezler]]). I do still have an awful lot of questions. For instance, someone kindly re-assessed the [[Setter]] article that I did some work on but made the comment that some references still needed to be sorted out. I spent all day on Sunday trying to work out how to do a list of shortened footnotes/citations to then link to the full length reference. You were right, it isn't something for beginners to try! I abandoned it in the end before I managed to crash my computer or even Wikipedia............

I find doing the research for information, then attempting to work out the syntax to include it and appropriate references correctly into an article fascinating. Wikipedia is a resource I have frequently used myself so I am disappointed when I discover the facts I'm looking for are not there and it's something I would like to help rectify.

A particular interest of mine is dog breeds, especially gundogs. While many articles about these are excellent, others do need work. It's something I hope to be able to play with during the forthcoming winter months, so if you are able to help - or can suggest another - who might like to 'adopt' me, I would be very grateful.

I'm working away from home for a week starting tomorrow morning, so will more or less be away from Wiki until next week.

Mr. Yunshui, I have gone through this topic in the past and also may be allways going through this topic once in a while. there seems to be a problem and help me out
1) There are 4 books written in (old sanskrit)(vedas).  and out of which the short summaries are again written on, of about more than 100 + (upanishads). Again written in old sanskrit, out of which only 10-11 are known and famous. 
2) There are countless authors who have tried to translate the topics and try to bring about the meaning or true essence of it. (very subjective) 
3) there cannot be a summary or generalising of topic meanings over here.  as the interpreters have intepreted the subject in a vastly different manners.

:Quotes from multiple authors are fine, although a better approach would be to summarise their positions in your own words and cite them as a source. If possible, be selective: choose scholarly authors who are known for their contributions to religious studies or Hindu history, and who have been published by well-known and respected publishing houses or journals. You don't have to report the opinion of every hippy yogi wannabe who has put out a book through CreateSpace... Your version of the article essentially appears to be your personal interpretation of the Vedas, etc. - unless you're a notable Hindu theologian who has had your opinions published elsewhere, I'm afraid that your own readings of the primary sources do not constitute encyclopedic coverage of the topic (basically, you're producing [[WP:OR|original research]], which doesn't get included in Wikipedia). I see vandalism attempts by few recently and I also see [[User:Mkdw|Mkdw]] adding many lines back. That is when I thought of contacting you again. As I mentioned, the article was pretty neat and tidy up after 4th AFD discussion. It was pretty much on the neutral way. But if we add the lines which were removed before to make the article big, I do not think it will do any good. While I understand the guidelines, rules and notability related parts of Wikipedia, there are a lot of people who rely on Wikipedia thinking its fully (or almost fully) genuine. Hi! I finally remembered my password - I've been editing surreptitiously as an IP for a few months now :P. I've lurked on Wiki for years now, so I know most of the policies intimately - however, I would like to expand my editing horizons. I've mostly limited myself to cosmetic changes, patent-POV removals, and the occasional sourcing... but I've only made a few tentative steps into the actual writing of articles, sections, sub-sections, etc., and then only on one or two articles that I was extremely familiar with. I'm not particularly self-assured! I guess that's a good place to start. I would also be keen to get more involved in the community, the spirit of things, etc.
I guess in terms of specifics I need assistance when it comes to writing in an encyclopaedic style, and a more thorough explanation of sources and how to use them, eg. what you can and cannot use a source to claim, synthesis and all that... I hope you know what I mean!!!

Ok, so, after a brief skimming of the "requested articles" list, I've already found something I'm rather familiar with. My specialty (if I have one) is underground music, and I've chosen [[Pascal F.E.O.S.]] as my candidate, as I am a fan of his music. I am in the process of laying out a draft on my sandbox page, but there are a few things I need (I think?). I'd request an IPA rendition of the name "Pascal Dardoufas" (which, based on interviews I've heard, is pronounced "dahr-dooo-fass"), since I cannot - for the life of me - decipher the phonetic alphabet and its myriad new characters. 
There's also that problem that's kind of inherent to musicians/bands/artists - particularly those of the underground persuasion... notability. I seriously doubt that Pascal F.E.O.S. has been mentioned in any mainstream news publications, because he's not exactly controversial or anything - he's just a DJ, really :P. His official site (http://www.pascalfeos.com/eng/index.php) is a primary source I assume, and can only be used for uncontentious biographical minutiae... the only other English source that offers anything extended is http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/pascalfeos - do you feel that this qualifies as a reliable source? From a cursory examination it appears to be some kind of electronica producer/DJ directory... but I can't tell. There's also a page on Pascal at the German Wikipedia (he's German himself) - so I'd be keen to get some translations of the sources they're using, purely with regards to what I can and cannot claim using a particular source - if any (from what I've heard they're rather lax with the sources over in Deutschland... but that's just what I've *heard*, haha). 
I hope this isn't too tall an order, but I am a fan of the man's music, and whilst he's not especially well-known in English-speaking countries, he has recorded for several "cult" labels that have garnered quite a reputation over the years, and many of his collaborators have articles too. In the past, when I've used foreign language articles as sources, I've done so by punching the text into Google translate and extracting whatever information I can be relatively certain of from the resulting machine translation; it's a rather tedious process but it's possible to build most of an article in this way. Hi Yunshui. You recently deleted a page called Fasta Pasta about a restaurant chain in Australia. This restaurant is similar size to other restaurant chains, which are featured on Wikipedia, such as Hogsbreath Cafe Australia and Wendys Supa Sundaes, and so is of similar significance to these companies featured. I am hoping you can please reinstate the page. I had added a few changes to the web page last week, as I was hoping to be able to change their logo, as I saw that the logo on there was an old one. Recreating deleted copyright infringing material is at best very dubious, for two reasons. Firstly, quite simply, you are knowingly publishing copyright-infringing material. It would not be any defence against a charge of copyright infringement to say "aah, but, your honour, members of the public had to click a link labelled 'history' in order to see the content that I illegally published". What is more, you clearly indicated that you were aware that the content you were making publicly available infringed copyright. Secondly, it is difficult to see a legitimate future use for any content there that does not infringe copyright. If the page is moved back to mainspace then the bad goes there along with any good, so you have contributed to undeleting a deleted copyright article. If, on the other hand, the user page stays where it is, but the user copy-pastes it to mainspace then there are attribution issues. Normal practice is to delete any page which violates copyright all the way from its first version, whether in userspace, mainspace, or any other name space, and then to decline any request for the content to be restored. I really can't see any good reason for making an exception in this case. Furthermore, when you had removed the copyright infringing content, there was nothing of the article left except a list of links to IMDb, Myspace, etc, so it did not rescue any significant non-copyright-infringing content. That makes me wonder what the purpose of undeleting was. The only purpose I can see is to make available the history content, ''which you knew full well infringed copyright''. I have thought very carefully about this, and have decided it goes beyond "hmm, I wouldn't have done it that way, but I see you have decided to", and falls rather in the sphere of "I'm afraid I really think you were wrong, and I feel I have to reverse your action". My immediate ideas for expansion would be: more information regarding practical applications (as a lay reader, I want to know ''why'' converting a fixed AC supply to a variable voltage is useful); something of the device's history (who invented it, how was it developed?); change the format of the Applications section from a headed list to a bulleted list; add some categories; and stick a {{tlx|WikiProject Electronics}} template on the talkpage, to attract that project's attention and get some more editors involved. I wouldn't head for a GA just yet - the article needs quite a bit of work to get to that stage - but it's not an inconceivable goal. In the interim, see if you can work the article up sufficiently for a [[WP:DYK|Did you know?]] hook. You've done a really great job with this, well done. == A quick question about afd ==

Hi! I was wondering say if there was an afd like this one[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Eclectikos] which met the criteria for a speedy delete, is it appropriate to nominate it through speedy delete rather than let the afd sit there for days until someone closes it? :As long as you leave the AFD template in place (so that the deleting admin can easily see that there's an AFD to close as well) there's no reason not to add a CSD tag to such an article; I've done it many a time. If it's a genuine candidate under the (fairly restrictive) criteria for speedy deletion, it should be tagged as such, regardless of any PROD or AFD templates in place at the time. It's also a good idea to suggest speedy deletion at the AFD discussion as well (as you did). :The easiest (if not the quickest) solution is for him to try logging on from his home computer this evening, and retrieve his password then. Because the school's IPs (most of them, at any rate) are blocked, he'll have trouble trying to get his password back from school (although if he remembers/retrieves it, he should have no problem logging on as a registered user). I'll have a poke about and see if I can find a good alternative, but I don't currently know of one, short of unblocking all the school IPs temporarily (which wouldn't go down at all well...).
