Context

[edit]

I've added a short introductory paragraph of context. I'll leave it to someone else to judge whether to remove the context tag. 66.30.117.127 17:57, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A COIN-OR page is needed. I lack an account to create a stub. Unfortunately its website doesn't really help write one. I got the "COIN-OR is a library of (interoperable) software tools for optimization, and a development platform for open source projects in the OR community" line from a googled conference tutorial. There is a project list. Maybe one of the individual project project wikis has some snarfable text? 66.30.117.127 17:57, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a page for COIN-OR, and expanded on COIN-OR's notability (RLougeeH)

The result was to propose a merger to COIN-OR. --B. Wolterding 14:58, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As part of the Notability wikiproject, I am trying to sort out whether this topic is notable enough to have its own article. Actually, only one source is cited, so this seems like a rather non-notable software. But maybe it is frequently used in some field? Please check the article and evaluate whether is should be kept or proposed for deletion.

Your opinions are welcome; please add your comments below. --B. Wolterding 19:06, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like this is used a fair bit in academic and some business areas. Google turned up some workshops on COIN-OR and SYMPHONY, and there were several university sites which discuss it as well. I think it's notable, just special-interest. Both this page and COIN-OR need a tidying-up session, though. --tiny plastic Grey Knight ? 13:04, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think these articles (COIN-OR and COIN-OR SYMPHONY) should be merged, or is there enough material for two articles? --B. Wolterding 15:01, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure. I think maybe we could go with a merge for now, and then we can always split them up again if the SYMPHONY section gets too big. --tiny plastic Grey Knight 12:06, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I took the liberty of adding merge templates to propose a merger of COIN-OR SYMPHONY and COIN-OR CLP into COIN-OR. I linked the other two talk pages back here for centralized discussion of the proposal, since there is already some relevant talk on this page. --tiny plastic Grey Knight 12:23, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The reult was Merge. --B. Wolterding 16:24, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As mentioned above, I think combining the three articles into one will be beneficial by helping editors centralize their efforts on these closely-related subjects. Please add your thoughts on the proposal here! --tiny plastic Grey Knight 12:22, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
