Plagarism
[edit]This page states:
"His TT exploits began in the mid-eighties. He was the winner of the 1985 Lightweight Newcomers Manx Grand Prix and went on to win three TT races. The first was the 1989 production 750 race and he collected the 1990 Formula 1 and senior trophies. He made a total of 26 Isle of Man TT starts."
Now compare this to the cited reference 4, with direct copies placed between [] brackets:
"Superstar and super-hero to his fans, Carl Fogarty’s [TT exploits began in the mid-Eighties]. [He was the winner of the 1985 Lightweight Newcomers Manx Grand Prix and went on to win three TT races]. [The first was the 1989 Production 750 Race and he collected the 1990 Formula 1 and Senior trophies]. ..."
Disgraceful. Is the role of Wikipedia to survive by the direct copying of other people's works - word for word? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.187.174.44 (talk) 12:04, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- @81.187.174.44: The text identified was added on 23 August 2013 by a 'temporary' registered editor who only made a relatively-small series of changes to mainly motorcycle racing articles between 17 and 25 August 2013. It is correct that published pieces should be para-phrased when accessing to generate Wikipedia content. It should not be noticeably copy/pasted but a new user would not be expected to know this, exactly, and/or may have considered that it was different-enough to comply; I have now fixed it, including shifting around the content into a better position. Thank you for drawing attention to it.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 01:30, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
