Japanese/English names between series?

[edit]

Why is it that the Japanese names are used for the titles of the character pages for the original Yu-Gi-Oh!, but for GX the US names are used? Shouldn't they be consistent?

Technically, the names used for the original characters aren't the "Japanese" but the "English manga" characters. The VIZ comics published in the USA and Canada have separate conventions from the English anime, although the cards and a few of the characters (Pegasus, Croquet, Odion) have their English names in the comic. Also, characters who don't appear in the manga who appear in the English anime (Noah Kaiba, Dartz and his lackeys) have their dub names used. WhisperToMe 23:01, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Card List

[edit]

For future reference, Janime's site could be useful. Character deck lists can be found here: http://janime.info/Genex/cards.html

Should the Ojama cards really be listed? I mean, he only uses them once, and to return Chazz to his old self. It would be like saying Yugi uses Blue-Eyes because he once used Kaiba's deck against Noah. They're not really his, he just borrows them for a couple episodes. Drake Clawfang 19:28, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's a bit of a problem, given that he plays other cards other than the obvious Ojama cards as well, like Over Limit, Shield Attack, and Mystik Wok, we can't tell with certainity whether they too count as part of his deck. Since it's really minor, I would opt to just keep it as is. --Benten 00:21, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: Actually, I'm going to remove the obvious Ojama cards, and leave the rest; conserves space. Will just keep that note about the Ojama cards at the top, and that should be fine. --Benten 00:26, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Differences

[edit]

Right, let me get this right out there first and foremost: I don't watch the dub. I got sick of it after less than half a dozen episodes. Thus, I don't have a lot of knowledge regarding the dub, except the name and voice differences of the characters. However, having come across the Wikipedia articles, I've discovered that there are a surprising number of instances in which the dub and original versions are different- for example, the article says "Jaden" decided to stay in Red for reasons involving passion or whatever. However, in the original, Judai just says he just likes the view of the ocean that the Red dorms have (unlike 4Kids, the original doesn't bother with trying to cover up the fact that he's a goofball). And of course, this is nothing compared to the outright ridiculous difference in Saious (Sartorious's) plans with the satellite (Brain-washing ray? Please, he was trying to blow it up.) And that's besides all the mildly adult things that have been edited out (bath-house scenes, anyone?), which obviously aren't as noteworthy anyways. Heck, I'd actually propose changing the articles to reflect the way they were originally. Consider the way the DBZ article is treated- a lot of times early on in the dub, Funimation would refer to every instance of someone dying as them being sent to another dimension, but Wikipedia blatantly says "They died." Wonderful, you've addressed about 5% of the matter in question...Y BCZ 04:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I can always just make up a reason if you prefer. JuJube 04:22, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's an agreed policy to use the English storylines primarily and note the differences as they occur. Personal opinions should not affect this matter. Yes, I think the brain-washing satalite is lame. But it's what we got and it's what we're using. Drake Clawfang 06:23, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently things like "taking the initiative"/"stop complaining and do something" are beyond you... if it's this important to you, make a section called "Differences Between the English Dub and the Original"...Naruttebayo

Spoiler tag position

[edit]

Yeah...currently the spoiler tag only covers stuff that happens in season 3...this is not the definition of a spoiler. Spoilers are plot details that would basically "spoil" the viewing experience for anyone who learns the information prior to viewing it. This includes a lot of stuff in this article- even just Judai (Jaden) beating Manjyome (Chazz) in the exam duel. We can't just assume that EVERYONE has seen EVERY episode that's come out in America. Y BCZ 23:37, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

... and that doesn't scratch the surface of what's already been released in Japan. 147.70.242.40 (talk) 02:03, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

VA Confusion: We need consensus, people!

[edit]

Okay, I talked to Pete Capella over MySpace. Basically, he didn't tell me he played, but he mentioned that a lot of the info about him on Wiki is wrong (he's even tried to change it himself, but it kept getting messed up.) In short, he said it was pretty much a losing battle (but gave props for trying.) I've also spoken to another user here who said that usually VA's for characters are figured out by comparing them to known roles, and that even though it's technically original research and against the rules, it's often accepted if there's a common consensus about it. I think it's high time we try to figure this thing out about Chazz and Jaden's true VAs (Again, for the record, I tried to get it from the Capella's mouth, but didn't get a straight answer.) We can't just go by "This info was here first" clause, because it stands to be revised. I mean, just listen to Silver (Capella's totally confirmed role); if we compared him to Jaden and Chazz, who would it be said to be? Sure, we gotta try to get proof (if anyone wants to talk to Capella themselves, power to ya), but we also need to apply some logic here, a little "original research". Maybe without total proof it won't do squat, but if we can't go by 4Kids' ambiguous crediting system, and we don't have an answer from the man himself, what's there left to do? Listen up and figure it out ourselves with what we do verifiably know. All I have to go on is Silver; if anyone has another character that you're sure sounds like Chazz or Jaden, or you know one of their supposed VA's confirmed roles, speak up! Maybe he's right and that it is a losing battle to change it, but I'm not going to back down just yet, thank you very much. So tell me: who wants to figure this out once and for all, and not just settle for the wrong info rotting it the water like this?Batwing321 03:20, 6 July 2007 (UTC) what's with jaden getting all serious is this going to end up like yugioh jaden care free personality is what i like about him! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.229.97.207 (talk) 08:15, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible mistake?

[edit]

I found this in the article: [Jaden ends losing after a great duel; however, with the passion of the dueling he lost previously now recovered, and fired up to become more and more stronger, so he promises Yugi to grow stronger and to challenge him once again in the future.]

Where's the proof that he lost? The whole end of the duel is cut off and not shown to the viewers. o.o —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brian (talk) 01:00, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

if you did your maths you would know why he lost--The Last Uchiha 17:59, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

still it isn't shown and the duel is left unfinished, him loosing is speculation on you part. 134.121.250.173 (talk) 19:27, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • While this is technically true, unless the God of Plot no Jutsu himself came down and put a card in Judai's hand, he lost. The only card in his hand was Winged Kuriboh. JuJube (talk) 19:34, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Still since its not known, we should put that it was left ambiguous, or not mention a winner at all. 134.121.250.173 (talk) 23:59, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obvious Vandalism.

[edit]

Okay I was reading Judai's article over and found this:

"Sartorius ended up dueling against Jesse due to the effects of Arcana Force 0: The Fool making him believe he was dueling Mr. T."

I'm gonna go ahead and remove this. Someone please replace it with the original plot I would do it myself, but I can't remember it too well.<font color="red">Battoubro</font> (talk) 20:47, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Abridged VA

[edit]

Why does someone keep putting the Abriged VA on here? It's not on anyone else's character pages. Besides, the abridged series is a fanmade thing, not official. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.217.57.181 (talk) 22:16, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Something needs to be done about this. Someone keeps putting the Abridged VA on the page, and I keep having to take it off. The only things that should be in there are the OFFICIAL Japanese and English voice actors. Not voices done by fans. Also, it's not even on the Yu-Gi-Oh! wiki so it shouldn't be on here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.217.57.181 (talk) 20:17, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's just promotional pushing buy the creators of the fandub. If it keeps up, the editor will eventually be blocked. —Farix (t | c) 22:11, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
