Neutrality Debate
[edit]This article is quilty of breaching the NPOV guidelines on two counts: Nationalistic bias, and sensationalism. I suggest a cleanup is required if the article is to be taken seriously, since it is otherwise very good. Superseve 12:19, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, especially the following passages:
- one of the greatest fast bowlers the game has ever known and the master of reverse swing - how about something along the lines of ...won international recognition for his fast-bowling, particularly with his reverse-swing techniques.
- It is noteworthy that Sachin Tendulkar debuted in the same match. - nice coincidence, but doesn't need specific mention.
- His most lethal weapon was the in-swinging yorker, which he managed to produce at will and with a high degree of accuracy, as experienced first-hand by plenty of county batsmen who were unfortunate enough to face him at his peak - reasonable point, should be in an "achivements" section, not "career".
- The entire paragraph starting with Known as the "Burewala Express"... is not a career summary. I don't mind this being included in a "achievements" section, but more objective descriptions of his career should be there. Some blatant POVs there too.
- Generally this will take some cleaning-up. I suggest some keen editors get to it if no further objections are raised.--Alexio 11:20, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
While on the subject it is also necessary to mention the downs of his carrier as the article puts enough focus on his achievements there is not enough mentioned on the ball tampering controversy as he has been refereed as the "master of reverse swing" and ball tampering is directly related to reverse swing; another point that could be added & I don't know if it would be unbias enough is the mention of how in his last world cup match in 1996 againt India, Ajay Jadeja scored a quick 45 in just 25 balls 12 of which came from Waqar Younis, resulting in Pakistan exiting the world cup & drew a lot of criticism from the Pakistan media & citizens.
Tone and Use of English
[edit]- An awfully written article in substance as well as use of English.
- Piece of trash!!!
Made some changes. Please comment on any further changes required ( and I know a lot are)
- <-- You did a great job. In current form it looks much better. At least you corrected the tone. Probably we don't need POV, inappropriate tone, story, and cleanup-rewrite tags. Right?
- I would request that anyone who makes changes does not spoil the tone.
- One may add further achievements. No one minds adding praises in an encyclopedia if they are not written in bad taste.
"one of his bouncers broke through tendulkar's defences" haha, what a joke, tendulkar was only 15 then and it was his debut aswell
That doesn't change the fact that one of his bouncers did indeed break through Tendulkar's defences.
Facts: Tendulkar was 16, Waqar was 18 at their debuts (Karachi Test 1989), Tendulkar was bowled middle stump on the score of 15 by Waqar in his first Inns. The bouncer that broke his nose was in Sialkot Test and Tendulkar went on to make his first 50 in that Test.
It should also be mentioned that Waqar has the best strike rate in tests amongst bowlers with 200+ wickets. He took a wicket every 43 balls or so which is the best, next are Malcolm Marshall and Allan Donald with 45. Shoaib Akhtar's SR is 44.something but he hasn't taken 200 wickets in tests (currently 165).

Page should be corrected
[edit]Legendary fast bowler Waquar Younis Wikipedia page is compromised and someone has tried to use abusing language about him and all the craps. Please delete the page immediately or correct it. Also, block the user who has done that to him ThePreachingWizard (talk) 13:46, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- ThePreachingWizard, I have reverted the offensive posts twice now. You could do it too if it happens again. I see that the same person has done something similar to Wasim Akram. LynwoodF (talk) 14:12, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
