Le RFA thanks
Just wanted to thank you for placing your trust in me at my recent RFA. I'm seeking community input on a number of issues at User talk:Xenocidic/RFA. I've also left some templated thank spam for you below. best regards, xenocidic (talk) 23:57, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your support
I would like to thank the community for placing their trust in me during my recent request for adminship, which passed 72 13 2 . Rest assured, I have read each comment thoroughly and will be addressing the various concerns raised as I step cautiously into my new role as janitor. In particular, I would like to thank Balloonman for putting so much time into reviewing my contributions and writing such a thoughtful nomination statement after knowing me for only a brief period of time (and for convincing me that I was ready to take up the mop now, rather than go through admin coaching).
To my fellow admins - please let me know right away if I ever take any mis-steps with my new tools. Should I make a mistake, and you reverse the action, I will not consider it to be wheel-warring (but please tell me so I can understand what I did wrong).
To everyone - please feel free to slap me around a bit if I ever lose sight of the core philosophy of Wikipedia as I understand it - the advancement of knowledge through the processes of mutual understanding and respect. As always, feel free to drop by my talk page if I can be of any assistance. =)
Sincerely,
~xenocidic, 01:04, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Football Schedule
Why was the football schedule I made removed from Roswell High School? And perhaps you could go over what is wrong with the article so I can fix it?--AUburnTiger (talk) 07:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Because IMHO it just isn't of note to a broader audience. Weikipedia is not the place for schedules of high school football games or predictions about the next season. Such things just aren't encyclopedic. As far as the big issues, I went through and fixed many of them. There's probably a lot I missed so it would be great if we could collaborate to further improve the article to the GA status that it is readily approaching. When I get a chance I'll make a few more general suggestions for improvement. the citations you added are a great start though. Adam McCormick (talk) 17:31, 5 June 2008 (UTC)]
- Thank you for the explanation. As I worked on it for two hours you can understand why I was a little miffed it got taken out without explanation. It is certainly a rational reason and I can see your point. I guess in my effort to be thorough I got too thorough. I have already found additional citations to add, and will be doing so shortly. I still have trouble finding a citation for it being the second oldest school in the area. I'll keep looking though. --AUburnTiger (talk) 20:51, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- If I cited websites for the oldest high school and the next oldest would that be sufficent for the "second oldest" claim?--AUburnTiger (talk) 02:40, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Plagarism removed from Shawnigan Lake School article.
Please see talk page of Shawnigan Lake School. I discovered that the History section was a near word-for-word plagiarism of http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/cgi-bin/text2html/finding/government/.ms_finding//MS-1485.txt and this needs to cited correctly. It is cited in-text once, but that is it.
I discovered this during a requested assessment of this article. The rest looks good. — Calebrw (talk) 21:09, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know and for helping out with assessments, we need more dedicated assessors and you seem to be showing some gusto. First thank you for removing the plagiarized content. As I don't do a google search of every article I assess I often miss this sort of thing. Second, I don't mean to be nitpicky but it is probably best not to copy over the whole request to the assessment on the Assessments page as the strike-throughs are a little misleading, probably just me but I like the assessment archive to look clean so people can se what's being done. Last, you might take a crack at rewriting the removed history section to avoid plagiarism and then cite it correctly. Remember that many of these articles are written by those unfamiliar with wikipedia "best practices" so it's always best to lend a helping hand and not just point to the problem. Overall, it looks like you're doing great work. Keep it up and you'll be an "Experienced" assessor in no time flat. Adam McCormick (talk) 05:29, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have removed the strike-through tags and will try to remove the request itself as soon as get a chance. — Calebrw (talk) 14:03, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Washburn High School
In addition to your work at WP:WPSCH/A, I would appreciate if you could take some time to look at Washburn High School, which I've been working on for the past 3 days or so. I have a peer review already setup. I know it needs work, but you might have some additional insight.
Thanks, — Calebrw (talk) 02:23, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks for fixing the template. I must have some sort of whitespace bug; would you be so kind as to look at Template:Composers if you have the time. It doesn't do good with other templates, especially when nested. Thank you so much for your help, and if you don't want to do Template:Composers no worries. §hep • ¡Talk to me! 00:35, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- Strike that last comment. I followed your lead and everything's fine now. Thanks for teaching me how to fish. §hep • ¡Talk to me! 00:39, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi. StepShep and I have just been working on this. Could you possibly let us know what changes you've made so we can understand how it's working? --Kleinzach 02:01, 18 June 2008 (UTC) No problem - now I see you've been working with StepShep. --Kleinzach 02:02, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I believe I've found the issue (it was an interaction with on my example page). Anyhow, should work better now Adam McCormick (talk) 03:01, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
about the reverts
Thanks and all, but i have already been told that yesterday and from then on i have resisted the temptation to sign pages. Thanks for the help, though. -Tratos —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tratos the Great (talk • contribs) 14:29, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- That's good, I've cleaned up the places you had signed previously. Welcome to Wikipedia, and feel free to let me know if you need any help. Adam McCormick (talk) 14:34, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
General Guidance
I dont really need specific help, but i would appresiate general guidance concerning copyright information. I have recetly joined alongside an admin in pursuing falase copyrights, and they are on vacation, so i have noone to help me out with that. So, ill let you know if theres anything specific, but for now, could you adopt me? -Tratos the Great —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tratos the Great (talk • contribs) 16:27, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Updating WPSchools for FL-class
Hey Alanbly, we have a new FL-class article here: Talk:List of schools in Northland, New Zealand, but we haven't created the FL-class category yet. On updating WPSchools, I think a line under the switch:
- |fa|fl=
- should be changed to
- |fa
|fl - Then we'll just create Category:FL-Class school articles
Please double-check that when you have the time. Thanks, --Jh12 (talk) 13:56, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like that will do it, I've made the change at User:Alanbly/WPSchools and now just need it moved over. Adam McCormick (talk) 14:30, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Template: WP:schools
Thank you for your work with template|WP:schools
I do have a question about a few other changes to be a bit more consistant with other similar templates see User:Dbiel/Category:Schools in the United States by state/work page#Templates for comparision for some examples. I am specificly talking about category pages and WikiProject GeorgiaUS seems to be one of the best I have seen so far. One additional change, not included in WikiProject GeorgiaUS Is to change the first sentence from This article is part... to This page is part... but I know that would require a major amount of programing, but the other change should not be that difficult for someone used to working on templates, but I could be wrong, as I am not one of those individuals. Thank you again for your assistance. Dbiel (Talk) 02:44, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have posted a request to fix the template which places that text (Cat-Class td) and hope it will get someone's attention. I will have a loo at making the text smarter (It's not that hard really). Adam McCormick (talk) 02:57, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply and assistance Dbiel (Talk) 03:07, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Our banner should be fixed and ready to be moved. Adam McCormick (talk) 03:34, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for making some of the requested changes. Was there any specific reason for not making the following two suggestions per the WikiProject GeorgiaUS example? which were changing the display word from Cat to Category and removing the importance rating section; unless categories should be rated on the importance scale. Dbiel (Talk) 14:01, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Our banner should be fixed and ready to be moved. Adam McCormick (talk) 03:34, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply and assistance Dbiel (Talk) 03:07, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- The template which populates the word "Cat" is fully protected so I had requested the change which was not made due to I think a misconception. If you'd like to weigh in about the need for this change the discussion is here. I wasn't aware that you had an issue with Cat importance, but We add importance=NA for anything we don't think needs a rating. Adam McCormick (talk) 16:05, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. I will make my comments at the other site as requested. Dbiel (Talk) 17:55, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Creating geo lists
Hi I've made an intital suggestion at the GEOBOT talk page in that it would be an excellent idea to generate a full lists of places in a tabled list. Once this is accomplished we can work through what articles could be started in their own right if there is enough info avilabale. I see it as a solid comprehensive base to build geo content on if we have a full world list organized like this. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geography/Bot#Creating lists. Please offer your thoughts thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:25, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- Many thanks for tidying up my first attempt at a subst template. Much appreciated. I look forward to seeing your other template efforts Fritzpoll (talk) 21:07, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, just let me know what needs doing Adam McCormick (talk) 21:11, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
GEOBOT logo looks good but I;d suggest cropping it so only the two biggest cogs on the end are included ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:09, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure exactly what you mean, there should only be two cogs... Adam McCormick (talk) 20:42, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Your kind alert
Haha! Thank you. That attempt was actually a response to Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Grazon. —SlamDiego←T 20:35, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. I have also posted another spurious report to your talkpage. Adam McCormick (talk) 20:39, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
