Rollback question
[edit]Hello. I have found your user-page because you are an administrator who grants rollback privileges. I am performing academic research and I am particularly focused on usage of the rollback feature. I have imported en-wiki dumps into MySQL for analysis, and flag RBs by parsing revision comments for the "automatic comment" left by RB edits.
My question: In February 2009 and the months preceding it, about 200k RBs were being performed a month. Beyond that, usage of the RB feature seems to decline sharply; in September 2009 I show only 1k RBs. Can you help me understand this? Did the automatic revision string change? Did the use of anti-vandalism bots (with their slightly altered RB strings (which I don't try to parse)) become so prevalent that no one does it 'manually' any more?
My current research has found no reason for this 200x change, and I hope you can help. Of course, your help will aid my research -- which in turn will help the Wikipedia community in combating vandalism. West.andrew.g (talk) 16:39, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Usurpation of my user page
[edit]Dear Bibliomaniac (usurper), it was uncalled-for to invade my user page and move its content to something called "User: Johann Nepomuk (usurped)". As a result, I am unable to reach all those pages that I have written or contributed to. Why don't you use your powers for better things, for instance to undo the damage you have done. Johann Nepomuk —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.102.139.98 (talk) 16:43, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Hello Bibliomaniac15. Firstly, I'd like to say that I've avoided (until now) all Peter Damian-related issues, but don't agree with him getting to !vote or with his intent. But indenting other user's !votes without providing any reason should not be done, I know it's annoying, but his votes count for absolutely naught. Because they are votes, and RfA is a discussion. The candidate is ignoring it, I'd hope that !voters would follow the example of the user they hope will become an admin :D. Remember: Do not strike out or delete the comments of other editors without their permission. Please reconsider your strike. That said, I'm definitely not going to edit war over this, or even remove your strike in the first place. Hopefully we can all just ignore Peter's comments (which the exception of the 'crats). Thanks - Kingpin13 (talk) 21:37, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- I agree the vote is completely off, and shouldn't be there, but that doesn't mean I think users other than Peter should remove it (it makes it look like he himself has struck it). I just disagree with everybody talking about this at ~3 different places, each one getting so big that no sense can be made of it, and then ignoring it and individual users start reverting each other, blocking, unblocking etc. Sure, if you want to show that his vote has been disregarded before the RfA is closed then okay, same result. But more aggravating for Peter. I can see what you're saying about it being unfair for Mikaey, but he (should be able to and) seems to be fine. I really don't mind if the !vote is struck, but don't think that was the best way of doing it. - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:20, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Aye, I can see just where you're coming from. But I would suggest at least placing a note underneath the struck vote, saying that it was you who struck it. - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:31, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- No not at all, no such thing as bad publicity ;D. And it would be a pretty long comment if you made it underneath the vote :). Thanks for your points, you've given me some thoughts to chew on. - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:38, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Aye, I can see just where you're coming from. But I would suggest at least placing a note underneath the struck vote, saying that it was you who struck it. - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:31, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Have you seen...
[edit]...a newish essay around here called WP:TYFYV - Wikipedia:Thank you for your vote? I wrote it recently, on the heels of the DougsTech affair. I wonder if anything in there might be applicable to the Peter Damian situation. -GTBacchus(talk) 02:39, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. You clearly know more than I about the particulars of this situation, so I defer to your judgment. I only hope that the argument:
- "If, in a perfect Wikipedian society, we would all thank him for his oppose and choke him off. But seeing as the community has much division on this point, and probably wouldn't humble themselves to do so, I feel that the only way to end this is to be firm against the oppose in question."
- ...will not be applied uniformly to such cases. Doing so would seem to rob the community of an opportunity to improve our handling of this kind of situation. -GTBacchus(talk) 18:56, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Your striking of Peter Damian's oppose was reverted

[edit]Hey,
I have a favour to ask of you. I'm trying to create the unified login, but someone has already created a login on English Wiki, the same, as I have on my home Wiki - Polish. My login is Flack. Looking here someone has created an account 4 years ago and has got only 6 editions. And here is my ask: can you change the name of this account "Flack" on English Wiki, so I can attach that login to my unified login? Thanks in advance. You can answer me here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.190.37.12 (talk) 22:13, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, okay. I didn't know about those his GFDL edits. Anyway, if there will be any problem with renaming that account, do not trouble yourself more, it isn't so much important.--81.190.37.12 (talk) 23:33, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Deletion of Sari (female garment)
[edit]I'm undeleting your deletion of this redirect, since it triggered redlinks in a few hundred pages. I'm not sure what the move/rename situation is of Sari vs Sari (female garment), but the given rationale (that (female garment) links might have been intended for a different "sari" meaning) doesn't make sense. I had already declined the speedy from the same user on this same grounds. DMacks (talk) 00:24, 15 July 2009 (UTC) The move he was trying to accomplish also appears undiscussed and against consensus at Talk:Sari. DMacks (talk) 00:39, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Help with Chelidae turtles.
[edit]I am interested in fixing a lot of the issues with the Chelidae, I am a taxonomist in the field having described 5 of the species. In any case I want to make some serious repairs to the genus Rheodytes. In particular I wish to add a page for the genus itself at present the link on the Chelidae page redirects you to the species account for Rheodytes leukops. This is an issue as I wish to add in a page for the 2nd species Rheodytes devisi and hence want Chelidae --> Rheodytes --> Rheodytes leukops, Rheodytes devisi. I hope that diagram makes sense. Someone has set it up so the word Rheodytes links to the species account making the name Rheodytes unavailable as a unique name for a page. I was hoping you could tell me how to undo this. [edit]174.7.14.105 (talk · contribs) has taken it upon himself to start once again reverting without discussion immediately after coming off your recent one week block on that individual. He's been warned multiple times about this behaviour, but it does not seem to be sinking in. Could you please keep an eye on this person so we can avoid unwanted disruption? Cheers. --Ħ MIESIANIACAL 08:56, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!!
[edit]Once again it is festive season, a time where festive decorations are displayed and gifts are swapped; but what about the true meaning of christmas? The true meaning of christmas is about the fight for freedom and how in times of hardship and misery, one person leads their people to freedom as a great warrior; for those who fight for a cause are warriors and those who fight for a worthy cause are great warriors. Such an act earns respect and honour; but most importantly, brings happiness to their people. So to achieve this as happiness lies in other people's happiness and greatness lies in how you deal with little people, we selflessly think of others in the hope that they will be happy this christmas.
Hi Bibliomaniac15, have a very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year 2010!

Hello Bibliomaniac. I'm in one sense, not entirely qualified for WP:ADMINCOACH as per the new critera. I really do agree with 'the supreme criteria' on User:Bibliomaniac15/Admin_coaching_plans. However, in this environment one needs much more than common sense to be an admin. I've just come back from a long editing break, due primarily to back surgery, and a malpractice suit. If you would take me as a coachee I would be greatful, but given the criteria, I'm unsure of my readiness. I have indeed read Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list and Wikipedia:Guide_to_requests_for_adminship. However my activity in I suppose "Adminish" areas hasn't been impressive. Additionally I have contributed much less to content than I would like to, but am having difficulties finding areas in which my knowledge is greater than the material already written on the page.
Take this as a request for coaching (provided you would be willing to), and if that is not possible a sort of review of what I should do in the future. I could file an editor review, but with the huge backlog, going directly to a trusted individual seems to be the best method of going about it. Best Regards, NativeForeigner (talk) 01:13, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- What do the others use as principles that makes you different from them? I'll accept once I truly understand the difference :) NativeForeigner (talk) 06:57, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- I suppose we can start now, if that's fine, if only to get an idea of what I can do to help :) NativeForeigner (talk) 19:15, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- I take it I should answer those questions? Just confirming purpose. NativeForeigner (talk) 20:01, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
