There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:09, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am a film producer and was trying to add factual information with sources to articles relating to completed projects. I understand now the need to declare a conflict of interest. I have not been paid or sought to gain anything by doing so. My films have been seen by hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people across the world on Netflix and I was keen to add information on the personnel involved. There was no malicious intent

Decline reason:

You forgot to tell us what you'll write about, now that you know you won't be unblocked to write about subject areas for which you have a conflict of interest. Yamla (talk) 20:03, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So I'm trying to get back to being unblocked. I emailed the Wikimedia Commons Information Team to link my account with Rather Good Film, a company I run and have confirmation this has been accepted "I've placed the verification template. However, as you have requested the account be renamed, this isn't strictly necessary. The account is now labeled as belonging to Rather Good Film. Yours sincerely, Alex Noble." I now understand how to declare a conflict of interest if contributing to articles related to projects I have been involved with. I'd like to get back to contributing and would welcome any instruction as to how to do that, or am I being told I should be abandoning this and starting with a new username? Thanks in advance for your help - again I never meant to break any rules. Technically I own the rights to the poster images I was adding to projects and was happy to put them in the public domain - I understand I didn't do this the right way. My intention was not to mislead. Thanks for your help (Rathergoodfilm (talk) 09:40, 14 May 2020 (UTC))[reply]

Wikimedia Commons is a different project from the English Wikipedia. To be unblocked, please follow the instructions in the block notice. 331dot (talk) 09:49, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

account now officially linked to Rather Good Film

Decline reason:

Wikimedia Commons has no authority over the English Wikipedia. "Officially linked" company accounts might be allowed at Commons, but we don't have the concept of "officially linked" company accounts at the English Wikipedia. Company accounts are simply not allowed here at all. So if you wish to edit here, you will need to request a rename as instructed. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:32, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

Apologies I didn't previously understand the difference between Wikimedia Commons and English Wikipedia - I thought I'd done what I needed to to get unblocked, I now understand that I need to change my username in order to continue per this request. Once unblocked I would love to update wikipedia entries relating to my passions that are film and football with board games in between

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. Yamla (talk) 17:35, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

globally renamed Rathergoodfilm to DKC2020. Unblock discussion

[edit]
  • globally renamed Rathergoodfilm to DKC2020, Intriguingly, in the context of the above discussions, you are blocked on Commons as well. Perhaps this will suffice there.
  • If you have not done so, please read and heed WP:COI and WP:PAID. I should think you will not be allowed to directly edit about subjects connected with your company. Please tell us what constructive edits you would make to build the world's largest free-content encycloedia. Thanks, --Deep fried okra User talk:Deepfriedokra 16:15, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oh, as you are PAID, while the software won't stop you from creating articles directly, agreeing to go through WP:AfC would, in my opinion, be a requirement for unblocking. --Deep fried okra User talk:Deepfriedokra 16:18, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks User talk:Deepfriedokra for trying to help me with this. I'm very happy to go through WP:AfC and have reviewed the information there and linked to there. I understand that I have a COI on anything film-related as I've worked in the industry for 15 years and it's my hobby as well as my work. Anything I've created so far I've been sure to thoroughly reference from independent sources. I am definitely a SME because of my experience. I can stick "Text inserted on behalf of COI editor User:DKC2020" on future articles to see that they are viewed in that light. At the moment I'm blocked and not clear on what I need to do to get out of that... thanks for your ongoing help - I seem to have inadvertently stepped on an early mine!
