EMP Pop Conference, huh? Lucky dog. I'll make sure to write it by mid-April; it'd be great if you could do that. Thanks, man Bobby P. Smith Sr. Jr. 00:25, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

To be more specific, I removed unreferenced and added fact to areas I think needs some references.

Also, how is the corresponding article in the Spanish-language Wikipedia a reliable published source? [1] Wikipedia articles can't be used as sources, even if it is on the es.wikipedia. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:21, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

My talk page changes

I think this may just be a misunderstanding, so let me try to explain my reasoning better. I'm not implying that you are a linkspammer at all. I just replaced all instances of he word with its acronym form so it won't be picked up by the search engines. The only reason it's mentioned anywhere on Wikipedia is because that website's workers decided to bring ithere and try to link it everywhere, and make an issue of it such that it was discussed. Now that's all over, I figure it's safe to find-and-replace all the words. I don't mean to say that any of the people who said it are spammers, I did myself. As for breaking a link: if you are talking about User:Uriah923/ON, that was a silly oversight of my using the find-and-replace and a redirect was created. If you mean the link to the off-wiki website, that was unavoidable. The problems with that website have caused it to be placed on the spam blacklist, I could not have made my edit go through without removing the link. I thought about it and decided replacing the domain name with "ON" was best because 1) it breaks the link so that editing is possible, while 2) anyone reading it who conciously wants to follow the link can still look at it and visit the website by retyping the domain name, since the rest of the URL remains. I understand that editing others' comments is bad form, but I hope this satisfies your concerns. Tell if not. :-) Dmcdevit·t 21:15, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

In that case, that's what I'm talking about beginning with "If you mean the link to the off-wiki website" above... Dmcdevit·t 21:23, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Joe, I recall you some time ago on Talk:West Bank supporting the existence of a separate article on the West Bank as well as the one on the Palestinian territories. There is currently a debate going on as to whether there should indeed be an article on the Palestinian territories as territories, or whether it should focus on the use of the term Palestinian territories, and if the former, what it should be called. If you feel so inclined, I'd welcome your input. Palmiro | Talk 13:22, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the contribution. Palmiro | Talk 19:29, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

It has been months ago since you asked for recordings for the anthem. Well, thanks to Georgian copyright law, I was able to upload recordings to WP. How is it now? User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:35, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Reply to old category talk page comment

Hi there. Just a quick note to let you know that I replied to an old category talk page comment you made here. Not sure what the category page looked like at the time you made the comment, but I think it is a useful category. Carcharoth 10:02, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Citations for fascism article

Re: your request on serier reverter Chip Berlet's talk page about refs for the fascism ideology article, see "The Rise of Pseudo-Fascism" by David Neiwert (on the web), for the article itself or many such references inside the article. At this point, it's simply a majority view. Robert Lindsay 23:18, 5 April 2006 (UTC) (talk)

IW Board of Regents

You are invited to continue your postion on the Institute of Wikipediolgy's Board of Regents for your work with systemic-bias and ability to see two sides of an issue. Please respond promptly. Thanks. -JCarriker 03:14, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

I will of course respect your wishes, but I do urge you to reconsider- you can do more with a minute than most wikipedians can with an hour and their for even the briefest moment of your time is useful. -JCarriker 05:35, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Voting as a member of the board for one. You are the father of systemic-bias theory at wikipedia, so people are going to seek you out anyway, so it really won't demand any more of your time then it would anyway. -JCarriker 05:46, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Russia vs Soviet Union

Thanks for the copyediting you did on the Bill Haywood article... I really need someone looking at that article besides myself! I noticed you changed Russia to Soviet Union in a couple places. I had actually changed them from Soviet Union to Russia originally, because I believe that at the time Haywood went there, it was still Russia. Haywood went there in 1921, and according to the Soviet Union article, "the Soviet Union was a socialist state that existed from 1922 — 1991". Of course, he wasn't there long before the Soviet Union officially came into being, but that was my motivation.

So, having said that... do you still think it should be Soviet Union? It matters little to me either way, I just want to get the article accurate. --JerryOrr 11:56, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

You are correct. If he fled in '21, Russia is more correct on where he fled to. Probably should be accompanied by an HTML comment pointing out that it wasn't the Soviet Union until '22. I had thought it was '20, and didn't check. - Jmabel | Talk 15:49, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
I changed it back to Russia, and added the HTML comment as you suggested. Thanks for the input! --JerryOrr 16:46, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Version 1.0 "Release Version Qualifying"

Hi, Jmabel, hope you're doing well.

If you have time, I'm interested in your feedback on Wikipedia talk:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Release Version Qualifying. It's essentially an idea to use a process similar to WP:FAC to identify and handle articles and lists that would go in a release version. Maurreen 19:26, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Village Pump

So, my first attempt to use the Village Pump ended up in the wrong place? Do you have any interest in recommending the correct location to raise my concern? -- Geo Swan 19:52, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Agitator

You have been identified as an anti-semitic agitator by the Aeurian Order. From now on, your edits will be closely watched and reverted if neccessary. AO Charles 05:20, 9 April 2006 (UTC)AO Charles

I will give you the benefit of the doubt and presume you are not out of your mind. I'm a Jew. I'm the main author of Wikipedia's articles on Yiddish theater, and one of the two main contributors to secular Jewish culture. If I'm an "anti-Semitic agitator", it is pretty hard to imagine who is not. -- Jmabel | Talk 18:59, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
I see now that others have responded more strongly than I at User talk:AO Charles. - Jmabel | Talk 05:27, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

WP 1.0

I thought since you are interested in this project you might be interested to see a CD version of en now exists see Wikipedia:Wikipedia-CD/Download & 2006 WP CD Selection. This is being discussed on the 1.0 project pages but progress breeds enthusiasm so I thought I would let you know. --BozMo talk 09:03, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Famine and distribution

Hi, just noting the changes in the famine article about the possible ineffectuality of agricultural technology against particular types of famine. I had originally removed the distribution part, as I thought that arguably all (or at least most) famines fall under this umbrella. If a greater yield can be acheived from the available land in troubled areas, then surely this would most likely help in avoiding the problem of poor distribution? Also, I admit that specific outcomes from most wars may make agricultural technological advances not effective, but do you think that "deliberate political intervention" is a little vague? Thanks... -postglock 13:28, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

It may be vague, but it is very relevant. And you are correct that "all (or at least most) famines fall under this umbrella". Often, though, "deliberate political intervention" is the primary cause of the famine. To pick an example that is not recent enough to push too many immediate political buttons, consider the famine in Ukraine under Stalin (the Holodomor): Ukraine had a major agricultural surplus; the famine was caused by the deliberate confiscation of that surplus and more. And this was not wartime.
Feel free to try other wordings; I'm not wedded to the wording, I'm just trying to make the point that no amount of improved yield can do anything about something like this. ~- Jmabel | Talk 03:21, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Sure, I think we are both coming from similar viewpoints with this. I suppose I meant "vague" in that different specific scenarios result in differing effectiveness for technological advances. Anyway, I had a shot at it again, see what you think? I'm not 100% happy with the wording, but I think it's closer... -postglock 08:28, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

I mentioned your name

As a courtesy, I wanted to let you know that I mentioned your name here: User_talk:JOEFIXIT#Warning. Travb 18:32, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

thanks for clarifying this, I didn't want to use this users name, so I can see how it is confusing. I notice how you are staying clear of this little argument.Travb 08:02, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Renaming article Jew to plural

Hi:

In looking back over the discussion at Talk:Jew I noticed that you had previously written about using the plural form "Jews" (or "Jewish people") for the article title. Someone recently added a poll on possible name change. Please take a look. I'm in support of the move for the sake of consistency with other "group" names, and have attempted to provide examples from List of ethnic groups; some have come out strongly against it. Perhaps you have a different take that would be appropriate, and might like to comment. Thanks —LeflymanTalk 19:05, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Janjua page

I have seen that you have warned user 202.83.173.117 on the 18th March for his behaviour. He is now attempting to damage this page also which has fully referenced sources for it's info regarding the Tanoli descendancy. I have added the reference of them being Janjua in origin and infact have also referenced points from reputable sources as well as proivding an independent internet link of the Tanoli dynasty's ruling chiefs, which he has not only deleted but also removed their reference from the Tanoli page itself also. If he has counter evidence, I more than welcome it, but I warned him a while ago for the Tanoli page deletion and now he is doing it to the Janjua page.

Can you please offer assistance in dealing with him? --Raja 16:58, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that Jmabel, very much appreciated. In fact some of the books etc I have added to the Pashtun talk page where I see he has also been claiming Pashtun descent. Other Pashtun editors are clearly in agreement with me that they are NOT pashtun too. I have added what I know there and offer assistance to any wikipedians should they want. :) --Raja 17:45, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Indalecio Prieto Page - translating e.g Julián Besteiro Fernández's name

I think that there is no need to modify Spanish personal names in English articles about Spain and Spanish speaking countries. It can only create confusion. I can't see any problem with writing those name, it still the very familiar alphabet. I may be wrong though.

Romania in the Middle Ages

Hey Jmabel, thanks for pointing that out, and sorry if I caused you any inconvenience. I reverted Greier's edit because s/he seemed to be removing quite a lot of material from the article, and because the text being removed was properly wikilinked and formatted, suggesting that this was not a removal of simple vandalism. However, s/he reverted me immediately after that, using an edit summary pointing out the copyright violation, so the problem was soon fixed. I'll do my best to prevent things like this from happening again, but I guess the lesson here is that we should always use edit summaries. Cheers, Tangotango 07:29, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Modernist women writers

Hi! As the article modernist women writers has still not been created, its talk page (which you started) was deleted recently. I decided to bring it back to life, hoping that someone would actually start the proper article. Perhaps you have time to create at least a stub during the next month or so? Deleted article

Hi Jmabel! Blimey, that took some finding!

Yes, I deleted it, and also protected it from recreation. The article in question was S.M.M.O.G (also created at similar titles with the full stops in different places). The text read:

S.M.M.O.G. is a hip hop crew from the city Galati, near the Danube river.

In the summer of the year 2005 they begon, hard worcking in the studio of Galati

for the album: Poluare Fonica vol.1 . The band is formed by 10 elements.

Discografie

Populare Fonica vol.1 2005

Populare fonica vol.2 2006

Populare fonica vol.3 2006

Stil Liber (free style) 2006

If you can make something of this, please do! Shout me if you get a verifiable, notable article out the other end and I'll lift the protection on the title, if you'd like. Cheers! ➨ REDVERS 21:00, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

It's at S.M.M.O.G.. I cleaned it up. Here's their web site: http://www.smmog.tk/ It looks legitimate. I really don't wish to verify every detail, but Galaţi is a real place, the web site looks legit, and the user's other contributions show a stronger knowledge of Romanian hip hop than mine (I say that as an American who spent 6 months in Romania; what he's written about bands I know has been accurate, even if not brilliant prose.) - Jmabel | Talk 21:10, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Wikiproject Alternative music

Hello, I'm developing a Wikiproject for Alternative rock and its subgenres. You were recommended to me by LGagnon. I am aware that you are currently quite occupied outside of Wikipedia, but still if you are interested in participating, I have listed the proposal at Wikipedia:Wikiproject/List_of_proposed_projects#Alternative_music and I have created a temp page located at User:WesleyDodds/Alternative music. Thanks. WesleyDodds 08:04, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Hey, turns out a Wikiproject for punk just started, which I've also joined. So obviously these two can work in tandem. It's located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Punk music. WesleyDodds 02:43, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
