Regarding your email/adoption

[edit]

I would be absolutely happy to help you out in any way you need! We can communicate via talk pages; email is only needed when we need to communicate in private; and in general I like to keep things regarding Wikipedia stuff at Wikipedia. Just drop me a note on my talk page, or respond here, and I will do whatever I can to help you where you need. If you let me know some specific things you want me to look over, or articles you want me to review, or questions I can answer, I will do my absolute best to help you where I can! --Jayron32 15:43, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thanks. Sorry about the e-mail, I wasn't sure which way of contact was more prudent. PoeticVerse (talk) 19:11, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I looked over the article you asked for. You can take out the reference from the bibliography section, there's no need to add an inline cite to note that he is the author of those books. You have the ISBN numbers, which is a perfectly reliable way to find those books, and it is self-evident if you follow those ISBN numbers that he is, in fact, an author of them. Before going "live" I would work on trying to expand the article some, however, with any relevent information you can about his life (personal life, professional life) and on critical reception of his work (positive and negative reviews). That would go a long way towards improving the article. A good way to work is to model your article on an existing article of a similar type; for example since you are dealing with a comic book writer, check out articles like Stan Lee. Now, I know that your article will not be anywhere near as long as Stan Lee's; there's just a lot more information on Lee than on Justin Gray; however the Stan Lee article is pretty good, and it will give you a model to follow in terms of organization, and flow, and writing style. If I could be so bold as to recommend one I worked on, check out Bill Szymczyk. Its a record producer, and not a comic book writer, but the depth of information is similar to what you could probably expect from the Justin Gray article, and its been rated as a Good Article, so it may be a good way to model yours after. --Jayron32 03:31, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. I can't find much in way of Personal life, but I suppose I could create headers about the process of the written series. I'll remove the note thing, I just wasn't sure... I had used this as an example for that section. Thanks! PoeticVerse (talk) 03:33, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other ideas for involvement

[edit]

Check out the Wikipedia:Community portal for some ideas on ways to help out. One way that is in much demand is providing pictures for articles. If you have a camera, you could find pictures of things that are needed; for example important sights around your home town, or something like that. If you are good at drawing diagrams, or making maps, those are other areas that need help. Just some ideas. --Jayron32 01:42, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding DYK and ITN

[edit]

Every once in a while, someone will nominate another person's work for appearance at DYK or ITN, however most of the time they are self-nominations. WP:DYK is the main portal for all things DYK related. It has the requirements and instructions on how to self-nominate stuff for that. If you need any help, I can walk you through it your first time. I've not done much with In The News, so you'll have to explore that yourself; their main information is found at WP:ITN. --Jayron32 17:57, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I don't think I'll try either at the moment... I want to keep looking around at articles to make sure I'm doing them right.PoeticVerse (talk) 21:32, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

{{helpme}} Just wondering what has a backlog at the moment? I've been trying to fix references, but it's getting repetitive and boring now. Thanks. PoeticVerse (talk) 21:31, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As always, there is a huge backlog of tasks.
What do you fancy doing? You might be interested in the cleanup campaign, or helping out with peer reviews, look at the newest articles, deciding which articles to delete, or maybe just something random. We have a list of requested articles, and requests for feedback.
Hope that gives ideas; if all else fails, peruse Category:Lists of things considered unusual - or, best of all, come and join us in the live help channel!  Chzz  ►  21:56, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help Again

[edit]

{{helpme}}

Hi, I see from above that New Pages has a backlog. But I see some bad articles in that list, so what do I do with them? I don't want to mark them incorrectly or something. PoeticVerse (talk) 03:24, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is a useful tool called Twinkle in Special:Preferences under Gadgets. There will be a new CSD tab. Be sure to review the criteria for speedy deletion before tagging any articles. --Mikemoral♪♫ 03:31, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Edit conflict; another reply)

  • If you are not sure what to do with them, leave them for others.
  • If it is utter garbage, as defined in WP:CSD in the various criteria, you might wish to tag it for deletion. For example, if it says, "I am a fish" and nothing else, you could put {{db-g1}} on the top, and it would be speedy deleted. Note, even if an article has a claim to notability, then it shouldn't be speedy-deleted. If in doubt, leave it.
  • Apart from that...try your best to fix it up; improve the layout, bold the name, add wikilinks, maybe add tags such as {{unreferenced}} or something. Best of all, look for references and add them. It really depends on the article, and some things you'll pick up through experience - such as adding categories, or making appropriate discussion pages with links to project groups...but, you asked about 'really bad' ones, so the first advise stands; if it is 'awful', use the appropriate CSD tag. There is a utility thingy called twinkle that makes this much easier.
If it doesn't meet the CSD criteria, there are the options of proposed deletion and articles for deletion. Twinkle helps with that, too.
Hope that helps; for more, please ask.  Chzz  ►  03:38, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Manikura Tikinau is a Cook Islands international rugby league player who has played in a full test match and not eligible for speedy deletion. This deal is getting worse all the time. (talk) 03:44, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, it just didn't seem like he was important enough for an article. PoeticVerse (talk) 03:45, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Manikura Tikinau

[edit]

Hello PoeticVerse, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Manikura Tikinau, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Coffee // have a cup // essay // 07:24, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have declined your A7 speedy, because if it all stands up there is enough notability to pass A7, though there is a problem with the names, which are not the same as in the references - I'll discuss that with the author. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:09, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your rollback request

[edit]

Hello PoeticVerse, I have granted rollback rights to your account in accordance with your request. Please be aware that rollback should be used to revert vandalism/spam/blatantly unconstructive edits, and that using it to revert anything else (such as by revert-warring or reverting edits you disagree with) can lead to it being removed from your account...sometimes without any warning, depending on the admin who becomes aware of any misuse. If you think an edit should require a reason for reverting, then don't use rollback and instead, use a manual edit summary. For practice, you may wish to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 19:17, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, what's going on here? Jeffrey Mall (talkcontribs) - 20:05, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The user removed the speedy delete template, so I pressed "Rollback > Removal of speedy deletion template" on Huggle, and it did that. PoeticVerse (talk) 20:06, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, that's strange, not sure why it's tagging the page for speedy deletion under request by author... Anywho if the user removes it again could you just perform a regular rollback using the R key and revert it back to my edit please. Thanks, Jeffrey Mall (talkcontribs) - 20:15, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, no problem. Sorry. PoeticVerse (talk) 20:15, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Aida

[edit]

Hi, I see that you reverted an IP edit to Aida (musical) regarding "Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Sherie Rene Scott)", on March 28 @ 22:44, here [[2]] (which I agree with). But then you put back the edit here, also at March 28 @ 22:44: [[3]]. As I indicated on the Talk page, Scott was not nominated for the Drama Desk Award, could you re-think your edit or shall I take out the entry myself? JeanColumbia (talk) 11:55, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the mistake, I believed that she had been nominated. My mistake. I see you've corrected the issue, but my apologizes for that mess. PoeticVerse (talk) 21:55, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem - I spend a lot of time with musical theatre articles (not that I know everyone who was-or was not nominated), but I also can get to the good sources fairly easily.JeanColumbia (talk) 12:16, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Be careful

[edit]

Your recent revert and warning of User talk:67.128.161.180 for his/her edits on Medicinal Fried Chicken were inappropriate. PoeticVerse (talk) 03:18, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Helpme

[edit]

{{helpme}} Hi. I was wondering if anyone had any tips about writing a DYK? PoeticVerse (talk) 02:05, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I've written many, but it's kind of hard to give tips in the hypothetical, or at least to do so in a way that's not actually a regurgitation of the DYK Rules. If you have an article in mind to write a DYK about, I would certainly be willing to draft a proposed DYK if that would help. I'll leave this request open for others.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:13, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Find something interesting (not recent news, preferably) that you can find lots of sources about, and just write, really. Also helps to write about more notable/recognizable things (plant/animal species, historic items, etc.) Writing about people is a bit harder, especially living ones--have to take extra care with BLP to avoid something like a recent "test" demonstrated. fetch·comms 02:17, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I never even considered that PoeticVerse might have been taking about writing an article about which a DYK could be used. Is that what you meant PoeticVerse? If so, any article that is long enough, new enough and properly sourced can have a DYK. We don't usually write articles, though, so a DYK can be done. Sort of a cart before horse thing going on there.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:01, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for both of your help. I just assumed that articles were written specifically for DYK or In The News sometimes. Sorry PoeticVerse (talk) 03:36, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Constitution of Jamaica

[edit]

The suggestion to merge the Constitution of Jamaica article is absurd. Are the constitutions of the other countries in world that have separate articles more important that Jamaica's? They're not. This is standard Wikipedia practice to have separate articles. I think you should give the article just a few more hours before trying to remove it. Int21h (talk) 01:50, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, but a lot of other country's constitutions have longer articles, where Jamaica's does not. Therefore I thought it would be more practical to merge the article into the main Jamaica article. PoeticVerse (talk) 02:18, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Death Race: Frankenstein Lives

[edit]

Hi. You seem to have made a mistake. You requested that the article Death Race: Frankenstein Lives be deleted because it is about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, with no explanation as to why they are notable. However, the article is about a film, not any of these. The film has also finished filming and is in post production, so it fits Wikipedia's criteria for a film to have at least begun filming in order to have an article. The film is also notable, even if it goes straight to DVD, as it is a prequel to quite a large Hollywood film. There are also plenty of refernces for the film on the article with many more on the internet if you wish to expand the article further. However, as the article is about a film in post prodcuction, it should not be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Editor 155 (talkcontribs) 08:48, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of GO (novel)

[edit]

Just a quick note to let you know that I removed the speedy deletion template you placed on GO (novel) because the article did not seem to meet the speedy deletion criterion A1. Although I agree that the article lacked sufficient context when you tagged it, it has been expanded considerably since then

Please be aware that is normally inappropriate re-add a speedy deletion template when another editor (other than the creator of the article) has removed it, because speedy deletion is only for uncontroversial deletions. If you believe the article still needs to be deleted, please consider WP:PROD or WP:AFD which can be used for deletions which are not covered by the speedy deletion criteria.

I am not an administrator and I do not have any special authority in this matter. If you feel that I have made a mistake, please feel free to contact me on my talk page.

Just a quick note to let you know that I removed the speedy deletion template you placed on St Scholastica's Girls' High School, Chittagong, Bangladesh because the article did not seem to meet the speedy deletion criterion A7. As noted in the template you placed, this speedy deletion criterion specifically may not be used for schools. In addition, High Schools are considered prima facie notable per WP:NHS

More speedy deletion stuff

[edit]

Hello,

Rather than bombard you with more templated messages, I want to draw your attention to two more articles which you tagged for speedy deletion under criterion A1 for having insufficient context:

I have removed the tags from both of these because they contain enough context to identify the subject of the article. I realize in some cases this was not the case at the time you tagged the article, but in at least one case you tagged a new article within a minute of it being created.

Since a large number of your speedy tags are being declined by administrators or removed by uninvolved editors like me, I wonder if you would consider slowing down on them a little? Of course inappropriate articles should be removed, but it doesn't hurt to have a charitable spirit especially when dealing with a brand-new article from a newbie editor. It's a bit harsh to tag them for deletion within a minute of creation, especially if the person is still working on the article.

Thparkth (talk) 12:09, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry...again

[edit]

In response to all the messages above: Okay, yeah sorry. I think I'll just stop New Page Patrol for a while, and try again later. PoeticVerse (talk) 12:35, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't be discouraged, many of your speedy deletion taggings were 100% appropriate. The only problem is with the marginal cases. It would probably best to think, "if in doubt, don't tag for speedy deletion". New page patrol is very important and speedy deletion is very important, so if this is something you're interested in doing, please don't be discouraged by a few minor feedback points :) Thparkth (talk) 12:47, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from St. Mark's Anglican Church, Remuera, Auckland, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! - A bit of WP:BEFORE should have been done on this one. Sources: [4].-- Mike Cline (talk) 14:49, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dieter Schuh

[edit]

I think it is very disrespectful of other people's time and effort to speedily delete an article. I didn't have a chance even to add the (holdon) message. You will be so kind as to see that my work is emailed to me before it is lost irretrievably. It may interest you to know that another Wikipedian specifically requested that I add the article on Dieter Schuh, and (as you noticed) he has a page on the German Wikipedia. Can you please explain to me why an emeritus professor who has lead a number of large DFG funded projects and runs his own publishing house in not notable enough for an article? Tibetologist (talk) 19:16, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

One can only post a {{hangon}} once an article has been nominated for Speedy Deletion. I tagged the article for CSD because I did not believe that it met this criteria. If you want a copy of your article sent to an e-mail address, please contact an administrator. Sorry you feel that my actions were disrespectful, as they were certainly not intended in that manner. Request for deletion of the Network for Business Sustainability page?

[edit]

Hi, thanks for the welcome and for monitoring all the new pages. I was wondering why you flagged the Network for Business Sustainability for deletion under A7. It eventually got deleted by JzG under G11 and A7. I don’t see how the page I created warrants unambiguous promotion. The Network for Business Sustainability is a publicly funded, non-profit organization. It connects an academic research community from around the world to business professionals interested in sustainability. The Network conducts and provides research on the various sustainability topics of interest to the business community and was founded by a professor, Dr. Tima Bansal who is widely quoted and respected on the subject. It has researchers from every university in Canada and quite a few from the U.S. and the rest of the world. Business sustainability is a topic of interest for me. This Canadian organization is one that is really trying to bring the topic to the forefront of business practice; based on all the articles I have read. Everything I said in the entry was factual not promotional. By this standard there are a lot of pages that warrant deletion but are still up and running for example Sustainable Business Network, oikos International Continuing Studies Centre for Sustainability (CFS) to name a few. Now I think these organizations are great and they deserve a page of their own; I’m just saying that the Network for Business Sustainability does too. I respect your opinion and I was just hoping for an explanation as I would like to put up the page again as I believe it is of importance in Canada and your input would be very much appreciated. --Sunalis (talk) 00:07, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I tagged your article because I believed that it met the G11 criteria on this page. Since I can no longer see the content of the article because it was deleted, I cannot tell you specifically what in the article was promotion. Please consider speaking with the admin who actually deleted the page, and consider asking them to look at the deleted article and tell you what exactly was promotion. Thank you for your contributions, PoeticVerse (talk) 21:10, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply! I will try that!--Sunalis (talk) 03:05, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletions that do not meet the CSD criteria...

Your article submission Little Black River (Gogebic County)

[edit]

Hello PoeticVerse. It has now been over six months since you last edited your article submission, entitled Little Black River (Gogebic County).

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note, however, that Articles for Creation is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Little Black River (Gogebic County)}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 01:16, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - some editors fight off the vandal hordes, as I do repairing pages with citation errors. If I didn't - there would be a large backlog in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting and in Category:Pages with missing references list as in Category:Pages with broken reference names (more than 1500 yesterday). But it is impossible to work it alone. Do you know how to do a "Blitz" (excuse the comparision) to find willing editors to work on it. It is much more easier to repair references if you do it one hour, one day or one week ago after the errors were made instead of months and years after the error was done. Very, very difficult to find these errors.

Only with WikiBlame Search it is possible to find and repair such errors.

New REFBot

[edit]

There is a suggestion on Wikipedia:Bot requests for a new REFBot working as DPL bot and BracketBot do. I beg politely for consideration. Please leave a comment if you wish. Thanks a lot in anticipation. -- Frze (talk · contribs) 04:18, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
