Incivil Remarks

[edit]

You should not have cluttered the ArbCom case, that you are not involved in, with such rather incivil remarks. I would have hoped you would have asked me first before doing so. Please from now on stay calm, even if you feel provoked, so that others cannot accuse you of incivility or biaseness etc., which frankly I wouldn`t blame them for. Go now and erase any incivil remarks you had made. ThanksZmmz 22:48, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Proud Iranian

[edit]

Nice idea for the template but do you think it's necessary to have the current flag on it? IMO it does not represent Iran and Iranians but only the Islamic republic --Kash 16:07, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks

[edit]

Regarding this edit: posting personal information about another user and accusing them of racism is completely innapropriate, and against wikipedia's policy of no personal attacks. In the future, please limit your comments to discussion of article content, and refrain from discussing other users (as it is almost always considered incivil). --InShaneee 19:53, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actor v. Actress categories

[edit]

I would seriously talk to other people... especially in Wikipedia:WikiProject Films about this because we have traditionally not split into male and female.... because... it hasn't really proved useful and make it harder to browse. Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Films#Actors_.2F_Actresses there is a discussion I started... gren グレン 11:52, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More on Actor v. Actress categories

[edit]

Echoing Grenavitar's comments, I just wanted to say that the existence of grammatical gender in English words does not determine our choice of category names. "Actor" in English can mean both 1) a male actor, or 2) a male or female actor.

You say you speak some German. German is an even more gendered language, but in the German wikipedia we have de:Kategorie:Richter (Deutschland), which contains Rosemarie Will whose article begins "Rosemarie Will ... is Richterin". There is no category de:Kategorie:Richterin (Deutschland), nor should there be, since splitting up people based on gender is confusing. --Saforrest 17:59, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Christians in the Arabian/Persian Gulf

[edit]

Greetings. I reverted your changes to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christians in the Arabian/Persian Gulf and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2006 April 18 because they had not been done in the proper way. If you want to delete an article, step 1 is to put an AfD message on the article by adding {{subst:afd}} at the beginning of the article. Step 2 is that you create an entry on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/<today> page. That entry should go to the end of the listings, not the beginning. And if you notice the subpage already exists, as it did, you have to add something like " 2" to the name, as in "{{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christians in the Arabian/Persian Gulf 2}}", to make it unique (next time " 3", and so on). Didn't you notice the page said, twice even, "Please do not modify it."? Finally, in step 3, you edit the subpage to state your arguments for nominating this article for deletion. Read also WP:AFD for the proper etiquette.

As it is, Christians in the Arabian/Persian Gulf is a redirect page. Redirect pages are not articles; they have a different procedure. Similar, but different. Please read WP:RFD.

Finally, why do you get so upset if some people call something different from how you call it? The reason they call it that way is probably that that is how they learned it at school when they got geography lessons, how everyone in their environment calls it, and how they are used to calling it. There are so many things that are called differently by people from different backgrounds. And please, please, do not use nasty words or ethnic slurs like "racist Arabs"; we are trying to keep this a pleasant place for everyone, so that we can work together on this encyclopedia in a pleasant and constructive atmosphere, and name calling does not really contribute to that.

I hope this helps. LambiamTalk 21:18, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Got me puzzled now. I can't see my warning on your talk page at all so I can't trace your contributions to see what the link or links were. If you did it from an ip address then I (& many others watching for spam) will often look on these postings as being more likely to be spam than otherwise. Let me know what and where they are, I'll certainly look at them and if we can't agree I'll pass it to the talk page of WP:WPSPAM for their views if that is ok with you. Let me know won't you. OK - well take a look at the edit history of these pages. Until today (the last 10 mins or so) I had not edited any of them so I think you have the wrong person. However as you've drawn my attention to them thanks as I've removed links that are to a "fake" site according to McAfee site advisor. If I can help more - fine - but I don't think it's me you are after --Nigel (Talk) 11:22, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looking further I have found the warning you copied - it was on 217.219.229.3. I removed a link to an accomodation website which I believe is in accordance with Wiki policy on external links. Rather worrying to me is the fact that you removed the warning I placed on that IP talk page which does tend to be frowned on by wikipedians - I have replaced it as it will allow any other people interested to see the history of this IP address. Thank you --Nigel (Talk) 11:38, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Ahvazmap.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ahvazmap.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Ahvaz

[edit]

Hi Sasanjan! Unfortunately, I can't edit the page because it would be considered an "abuse of admin powers". What's your opinion on the matter? Does the city have it's own Arabic name? If so, should we mention it at the top? Khoikhoi 08:50, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Two Articles in need of your attention

[edit]

There are two entries at Wikipedia, which have falsely created -- they are Turco-Persian and Turko-Persian Tradition. Both entries are factitious. I have requested the entries to be deleted. My reasons are:

The term Turko-Persian Tradition (or Turco-Persian) does not exists academically and it is a factitious entry! Check the Encyclopaedia Iranica to confirm -- The correct name for that culture is the Persianate culture not the "Turko-Persian". Turkophones (mostly of mixed race and Persianized in culture) only spoke in Turkic dialects and were in the military. That is not enough participation in creating and forming the culture to deserve the name "Turko-Persian Tradition" – This is misinformation. All the elements in that area, which have to do with tradition and culture, were drawn from the Iranian culture (Persian, Kurdish, Azari, Baluchi, Tajik, Luri, Gilaki, Talishi, Mazandarani, etc.), and the Islamic faith, not much Turkic elements (like shamanism, yurts etc.) were incorporated in. That is what makes the name "Turko-Persian" an imaginary one and therefore the entry should be deleted.

Any contributions would greatly appreciate – please add your comments, whether you agree with the deletion, or otherwise to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turco-Persian as well as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turko-Persian Tradition. Bā Sepās Surena 02:32, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry, but I've deleted the template. According to WP:CSD T1, userboxes with a political or otherwise "divisive" message mustn't be created in template space. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Fabanlg.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fabanlg.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Ahvaz

[edit]

Hi, I reverted your removal of the Arabic name because Ahvaz is home to a large Arab population. Since the Arabic name is different than the Persian name, I figured it makes sense to include it. I'm not anti-Iranian, and I don't support Arab separatism in Iran. However, that doesn't stop the fact there are Arabs living in the city whose native language is not Persian. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Pomegranate Flower fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

No sources and appears to contain OR debunking the "Lotus myth."

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Pomegranate Flower, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. Notability of Ahmadreza Garshaspi

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Ahmadreza Garshaspi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Adrianwn (talk) 13:58, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:32, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Amrolah Saberi has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

notability has not been established for this actor

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Tavix (talk) 16:37, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
