Out of state newscasters began mispronouncing it ab suh ROE kuh with short ă as in apple instead of the reduction to schwa as in about, using an S as in sun instead of the French Z when the consonant S is between two vowels as in cousin. Worst of all they put the accent on a syllable that is silent or at most zoruh as 1 syllable undo

My grandfather lived on the corner of Absaroka and 3rd streets in Powell, Wyoming. He hunted, fished, had picnics, and went for drives in the Absaroka mountains most of his life. He always said the "ub ZOR keys".
