The reference cited, Avro Arrow, by Richard Organ, et al, does not cite the speed quoted for that flight on 14 Sep 58. It does cite M1.89 at 50,500 feet, which would be 1247 mph in an ISO standard atmosphere, which was not a record at that time. The fastest speed flown be the Arrow was M1.98 on 11 Nov 59 at 50,000 ft, which would be 1306 mph, still not a record. Sadly the Arrow never held an airspeed record. undo Tag: Visual edit
