Estonia and Lithuania, while not members of their own free will, had been part of the Russian Empire as well as others (Danish, etc) and were not considered countries at the time of the story. The previous version was little better than the article randomly commenting on a leader, or a place, as if it had "the ugly city of Tallinn" or perhaps "annexed by the evil USSR".
