Alburga was the half-sister of [[Egbert of Wessex|Egbert, King of Wessex]], and wife of [[Wulfstan, ealdorman of Wiltshire]] (also known as Weohstan).<ref name=Farmer>{{cite book|last=Farmer |first=David |authorlink= |title=The Oxford Dictionary of Saints |publisher= Oxford University Press|location =Oxford, UK|edition=5th revised |year=2011|page=11|isbn=978-0-19-959680-7}}</ref>

On her husband's death in 802, she turned the college of [[Canon (priest)|canons]] which he had established in [[Wilton, Wiltshire]], into a nunnery, where she died in about 810. Her feast is celebratedon 25 December.<ref name=Farmer/>
