Nomination of Ricky Diaz for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ricky Diaz is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ricky Diaz until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. OlYeller21Talktome 07:36, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Conversation from AfD
[edit]I thought I'd try and help you better understand what's going on over at the AfD but I didn't want to bog the discussion down anymore. Your understanding of our policies and guidelines are not great but that's obviously understandable as you're a new editor. Other editors aren't replying because the arguments you're making (at least some of them) are very common and widely disagreed with. There's a huge list of them here. People can either stop and address you or they can move on to addressing other needs. Because of your connection with the subject, we consider that a conflict of interest. When you add that to the fact that you haven't really edited outside of this subject, people aren't going to see the value in teaching you how things work. That may sound harsh and/or cold but there's just so much to do here and trying to teach someone who may or may not ever edit again can be draining and counterproductive.
I'm here because I'm glad that you took the time to look through WP:N and present your arguments. Most people don't even bother and I think you did well. While I doubt that the article will survive AfD, that doesn't mean that people don't value the time you've spent here or that Diaz won't eventually be notable and in that case, we can bring the article back with a few clicks.
I hope this cleared a few things up. I also hope that you're not too discouraged by having your first article nominated for a deletion discussion.
If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them here or on my talk page. OlYeller21Talktome 20:27, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for taking the time to address the issue and to help me better understand the process. I do intend to contribute to WP articles, so I value your message. - Ya, WP can be pretty unforgiving when it comes to policies and guidelines. As for the page now, it's best to just leave it as it sits, probably. You're absolutely welcome to address the concerns of other users as they !vote. There's one certain thing about Wikipedia and that's that you can never truly be certain about anything. In a way, it's strict but also the wild west as no one has ever created any project like this before and as WP changes, so do its policies and guidelines.

- WP has more policies and guidelines than any of us care to count which is why decisions are almost always made after a discussion. If you're looking for a good place to start, WP:TUTOR is the common starting place but I think you're quicker than the pace that it sets. WP:YFA might be a good place to start, even though you've created an article already, it explains a lot in an abbreviated way that gives you the option to look deeper if you want.
- Outside of that, if you ever have questions, you know where to find me. OlYeller21Talktome 04:46, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
