==Removal of Dog odor link==
Hi there! I added a section regarding dog odor, if this makes my addition for my previous 'dog odor' link under 'see also' more clear? Please feel free to read what I've added and decide whether it's worth keeping. If it is, do you feel it is now more appropriate to connect the article with dog odor, now that it has been spoken about?

Hello: at [[Talk:Canarium]] do we know who 82.1.109.143 is (and oh why do we go on permitting anonymous editing!)? I don't think (s)he is correct about ''D. cochinchinense'', but will check (with colleague at Nong Lam University) - and see [https://vi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canarium_album vi: Canarium album]. I am setting up the appropriate page and will attempt to place "Vietnamese ~" or "[[Chinese olive]]" appropriately when confirmed. == Chinese history edits ==

Hi. I noticed that there has been a link added to [[Chinese History]] by [[User_talk:Jacobren]], which looks like a link to a personal page. I saw also that you have warned this user twice previously (Oct 2017) about problematic edits.

It does not appear that any of this user's edits have been constructive. I am happy to revert and maybe again warn this user. But I don't know what the protocol is for any further action? Advice welcome. Thanks! [[User:Mozzy66|Mozzy66]] ([[User talk:Mozzy66|talk]]) 08:38, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

:Hi {{U|Mozzy66}}. I think you meant the article [[Chinese art]] where {{U|Jacobren}} [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Chinese_art&type=revision&diff=823283189&oldid=822085832 added a link] to that very short "how to hold a Chinese brush and make Chinese ink" info-blog they themselves had written? In [[WP:LINKSTOAVOID]], example 6 states: ''Blogs, personal web pages and most fansites (negative ones included), except those written by a recognized authority. (This exception for blogs, etc., controlled by recognized authorities is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities who are individuals always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for people.)'' Perhaps also example 4 would apply as they are linking to something they themselves had written: ''Links mainly intended to promote a website, including online petitions.'' In any case, Jacobren shouldn't be doing what they did. You can indeed revert their actions, and then paste the most appropriate warning template from [[Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace]]. In this case, you have several choices. The most appropriate one I could find was '''Wikipedia is not for blogging or promotion''' (template<nowiki>{{subst:uw-blog|Art of China}}</nowiki>). Make sure to place it under a correct date, and otherwise create a new header with the month and year in it, in this case, by pasting <nowiki>==February 2018==</nowiki>. Or you could use one of those nifty Wikipedia gadgets ([[Wikipedia:Twinkle]]) which automates a lot. Normally, a user is "allowed" 4 trespasses per month before you report someone to the appropriate places. For most forms of vandalism that would be the [[Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism]] page. Sometimes, when they have a very long (somewhat recent) history of trespasses, you could report them sooner. Or if their trespasses are extremely grave such as very extreme racism. That's more or less the usual protocol. If you'd like to revert and warn the user, go ahead. - [[User:Takeaway|Takeaway]] ([[User talk:Takeaway#top|talk]]) 13:09, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

== Added to ==

Hi Takeaway,

I added the https://lifepart2.com/yee-peng-2014/ to the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_lantern page below the less current article http://www.solitarywanderer.com/2012/11/yee-peng-the-floating-lantern-festival/. If this is inappropriate please let me know. I think the new piece has better photos and shows more the spirit of the festival. Please let me know if there is an issue.

[[User:JHLookJr|JHLookJr]] ([[User talk:JHLookJr|talk]]) 10:45, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
:{{ping|JHLookJr}} Thanks for mentioning that there were still some blogs linked there. I have now also removed them. Sorry, but per [[WP:ELNO]] it is not recommended to use blogs for external links. In addition, [[Template:Uw-spam2]] clearly states ''"Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product."'' Linking to your own blog is not appropriate behaviour per Wikipedia regulations. - [[User:Takeaway|Takeaway]] ([[User talk:Takeaway#top|talk]]) 11:00, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

::{{ping|JHLookJr}} Hi again. Most people start out making mistakes in Wikipedia due to being new here and not knowing the rules and regulations of this place. I hope that you will continue editing here. Just keep in mind that linking to blogs and such is a bit of a no-go, especially if they were written by yourself. It would seem that you have extensive travel experience so your input should be valuable. Make sure to find a reliable [[WP:SOURCE]] for your edits though. If you would like to add your images to the collection already here, please do that at the central file depository (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page) from which all wiki-projects can extract images. Regards, - [[User:Takeaway|Takeaway]] ([[User talk:Takeaway#top|talk]]) 11:45, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Lua/Lawa on Inthakin article

[edit]

Hello. There is a serious problem. It appears that you just changed two words in a referenced citation, and then changed the citation. It doesn't really work that way. For one, there is attribution-by that is needed for the Inthakin story. Removing that is a problem legally. Then just substituting some other source (without explanation). It seems you are trying to skirt an edit-war issue here. Sorry, but the reference you cite points out the basic problem of differentiating the words in the historical record, as well as the meaning. While the author uses the word Lawa, there is no clear statement of identity, rather that it might be impossible to sort it out, regardless of present day peoples and their names. I have serious misgivings about this change in language as if the "correction" is standing on any historical evidence, as it is not. It is best to point out the problems in the article, if you must, but don't just make changes to words that have meaning. Jeffmcneill (talk) 15:44, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeffmcneill:. Hi. Sorry for the late response. I was kind of real world busy. I will rewrite that section of the Inthakin article soon to reflect the more academic content of the latest source that I had provided. The previous source was very much a tourism website. - Takeaway (talk) 16:36, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ingvar the Far-Travelled

[edit]

I am sorry, but I don't find any other way to reply to your removal of a link to Ingvar the Far-Travelled in the William of Rubreck-article.

You say that the Caspian sea is not mentioned in the page I link to. That is correct, the page on Ingvar states that

"Ingvar the Far-Travelled launched this expedition from Sweden, travelling down the Volga River into the land of the Saracens (Serkland)."

Hence, he sailed down the Volga into the Caspian sea, and across the Caspian sea to today's Iran.

This might be the best reference, although the article on the Rus' expeditions to the Caspian sea (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caspian_expeditions_of_the_Rus%27) also mentions Ingvar's expedition. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brainspin (talkcontribs) 17:17, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brainspin! First of all, although it is mentioned that Ingvar the Far-Travelled travelled to the Caspian, nowhere is it mentioned that he knew that it was an inland sea and not connected to the Arctic Ocean. One can assume that he might have known it, but that will only be an assumption. Secondly, a good place to question the removal of content is on the talk page of the article itself -> Talk:William of Rubruck. Thank you. - Takeaway (talk) 17:54, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

I added our website to Songkran/Thailand. We are probably the only website only about songkran with very well written content. Our Songkran website are translated to English, Swedish and YES Thai language to respect Thai culture and Thailand.

This website have 90% content about songkran in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Burma and China. 5% This website have information about holidays and festivals in same countries, as Songkran is actully only a festival. 5% We have images of Songkran.

100% Website about songkran.

We do have internal banners on desktop left side and right side, mobile is 2 up and 2 down. all is related to Thailand only. No google adverds, no pop up banners nothing ells. this small banners no one can buy.

I see you removed other links. In "References" first link i open is bangkokpost, they may not fit in wiki either. Millions of websites have some sort of income from eg, ads or banners and they are on wiki.

But you win, i will close down my wiki account as on some websites we do make money.

@Pihljohan: Please read WP:ELNO. It is for those reasons that I removed the external links you had placed into two articles. Please also read WP:COI because that apparently applies to you by your own admission. And as for for using a newspaper as a reference for content in articles, this is even advised in wikipedia (read wp:source for more info). Good luck earning more money elsewhere. Cheers. - Takeaway (talk) 14:36, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi too North America. I'm not really into the Halloween thing at all (it just never featured in the places I grew up in), and I've actually never eaten a remarkable turkey dish either (same reason). As I wrote here below in response to the winter season's greetings of another WP editor: Wishing you a very happy "This Week of the Year" in return though! ;) - Takeaway (talk) 16:55, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I don't think (s)he is correct about D. cochinchinense, but will check (with colleague at Nong Lam University) - and see vi: Canarium album. Chinese history edits

[edit]

Hi. I noticed that there has been a link added to Chinese History by User_talk:Jacobren, which looks like a link to a personal page. I saw also that you have warned this user twice previously (Oct 2017) about problematic edits.

It does not appear that any of this user's edits have been constructive. I am happy to revert and maybe again warn this user. But I don't know what the protocol is for any further action? Advice welcome. Thanks! Mozzy66 (talk) 08:38, 1 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mozzy66. I think you meant the article Chinese art where Jacobren added a link to that very short "how to hold a Chinese brush and make Chinese ink" info-blog they themselves had written? In WP:LINKSTOAVOID, example 6 states: Blogs, personal web pages and most fansites (negative ones included), except those written by a recognized authority. (This exception for blogs, etc., controlled by recognized authorities is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities who are individuals always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for people.) Perhaps also example 4 would apply as they are linking to something they themselves had written: Links mainly intended to promote a website, including online petitions. In any case, Jacobren shouldn't be doing what they did. You can indeed revert their actions, and then paste the most appropriate warning template from Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. In this case, you have several choices. The most appropriate one I could find was Wikipedia is not for blogging or promotion (template{{subst:uw-blog|Art of China}}). Make sure to place it under a correct date, and otherwise create a new header with the month and year in it, in this case, by pasting ==February 2018==. Or you could use one of those nifty Wikipedia gadgets (Wikipedia:Twinkle) which automates a lot. Normally, a user is "allowed" 4 trespasses per month before you report someone to the appropriate places. For most forms of vandalism that would be the Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism page. Sometimes, when they have a very long (somewhat recent) history of trespasses, you could report them sooner. Or if their trespasses are extremely grave such as very extreme racism. That's more or less the usual protocol. If you'd like to revert and warn the user, go ahead. - Takeaway (talk) 13:09, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

JHLookJr (talk) 10:45, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@JHLookJr: Thanks for mentioning that there were still some blogs linked there. I have now also removed them. Sorry, but per WP:ELNO it is not recommended to use blogs for external links. In addition, Template:Uw-spam2 clearly states "Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product." Linking to your own blog is not appropriate behaviour per Wikipedia regulations. - Takeaway (talk) 11:00, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@JHLookJr: Hi again. Make sure to find a reliable WP:SOURCE for your edits though. If you would like to add your images to the collection already here, please do that at the central file depository (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page) from which all wiki-projects can extract images. Regards, - Takeaway (talk) 11:45, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what RTGS is.

By the way, thanks for all your extremely good edits over the years. Wikipedia loves you!

Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:08, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Anna Frodesiak:, thanks for the compliment! I was a bit lazy by only typing "RTGS" instead of the full article name "Royal Thai General System of Transcription". I hoped that the disambiguation page that one is brought to when clicking on the short version would be self-explanatory. But yep, most of the Thai transcriptions here in en:wiki follow RTGS except when an alternative spelling is much more widespread. Cheers! - Takeaway (talk) 12:21, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, "Royal Thai General System of Transcription". Fair enough. A million smileys to you. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:23, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
