A Flame In The Wind (also called A Time For Us) was a soap opera that aired on ABC Daytime from December 28, 1964 to December 16, 1966. The show focused on the community of Haviland and it's citizens. The main families were the Skerba, Reynolds, Austen and Farrell families.

When the series began, Haviland's richest citizen, widowed Kate Austen (Kathleen Maguire) wrote a novel, in the same manner as Main Street, which showed Haviland's citizens in a less than perfect light. After the novel was stopped by her publisher, she and her son, Chris, (Richard Thomas) left Haviland, never to return. Her former mother in-Law, Louise Austen (Josephine Nichols) remained in town to become a friend to Jason Farrell (Walter Coy), who had marital troubles with his wife, Leslie (Rita Lloyd); Kate's place as town gossip was taken by Miriam Bentley (Lesley Woods).

The later stories were focused on young love, embodied by the two Skerba sisters, Linda (Barbara Rodell; Jane Elliot) and Jane (Beverly Hayes; Margaret Ladd), battling over the same young man, Steve Reynolds, the son of Kate's former book publisher, Craig Reynolds (Frank Schofield). Linda, who eventually went to New York, to become an actress, dated her director, Paul Davis (Conard Fowkes); and sensible Jane remained behind in Haviland and married Steve Reynolds (Gordon Gray; Tom Fielding). However, later on, Linda and wealthy Roxanne Farrell Reynolds (Margaret Hayes) vied for the same guy, Doug Colton (Ion Berger), who eventually married Roxanne for her money.

When the show's title was changed to A Time For Us,(the title which it became better known) the Skerba family (Besides Jane and Linda, the family included their father Al (Roy Poole), a construction foreman; and Martha (Lenka Peterson), the sympathetic mother) underwent a name change as well.

Since the name, Skerba, was considered somewhat ethnic for the time, it was changed to the more Americanized name of Driscoll. Which was successful in that it eliminated the class conflict that had been part of the show's first year, and put the Driscolls on the same social footing as the other families of Haviland.

The series is notable for beginning many actors careers. A Time For Us marked the first ever appearance of actress Leslie Charleson, who played a minor character named Pam. She eventually went on to play Dr. Monica Quartermaine on General Hospital.

Actress Jane Elliot, who played the second Linda, also later appeared on General Hospital as Monica's sister in-law, Tracy Quartermaine; (Which allowed Leslie Charleson and Jane Elliot to work together again) while actress Margaret Ladd, who played the second Jane, later played Jane Wyman's younger daughter, Emma Channing on Falcon Crest.

Electromatic is the name of a Christian charity organization from Greensboro, NC which formed in the early part of 2007. Their original goal was to raise money for mission trips to Africa by combining worship with live music and praise. The devised a sound that isn't too harsh with influences from surf, soul, funk, rockabilly, and old fashioned rock n roll. With the money earned from door to door record sales, the success of their album "One Eye Crying", and the huge turnouts for their east coast tour, this charity organization has retreated into their church to record their much anticipated second album "25 Feet of Rock n Roll". With positive responses from their congregation, as well as the local Greensboro media, the four founders (Mike Fowle, Nate Lightning, Kenneth Saunders, and Bill Torkewitz)have begun to bring family friendly entertainment back into the public's eye. The future success of the organization might rejuvinate the local music scene in Greensboro, which has been waning in popularity since the late 90's, and hopefully revitalize the downtown area. WoW! Weekly magazine, the Durham based Strike Force Records, and the local Greensboro underground fanzine "Garage Punk" all cite Electromatic as a major influence in the sudden interest in the local music scene and the expansion of the family friendly atmosphere in the city. With the newly remodeled downtown area, the opening of more wine bars and beer pubs, and the new explosion of night life, the city of Greensboro is once again becoming a hot spot for the trendy young working class. With the profits from the business growth in the city, this charity has been able to raise money for missionary trips across the world.

Al-Madinah International University (ar: جامعة المدينة العالمية) or MEDIU is a Malaysian private university owned by Al-Madinah International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

It is a web-based University providing opportunities for students to pursue their desired academic and career goals.

The main campus is located at Shah Alam, Malaysia. In addition to this, there is currently a learning centre in Indonesia and many more will open shortly throughout the world to cater for a global student base.

MEDIU obtained approval as a university from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia on 26 December 2006 and subsequently was registered on 20 June 2007.

After a period of enrollment, MEDIU started its operation on 25th February, 2008, with students studying in two foundation programs.

Among other target markets, the University aims to cater for working adults, who are often challenged in terms of time and availability, and who often unknowingly place barriers in front of them from further education.

MEDIU’s University Council, the highest governing body, consist of prominent members of the Muslim community in Saudi Arabia. The chairman of the Council is Prince Dr. Bandar Bin Salman Aal-Saud, an advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Aal-Saud. His assistant is Dr. Abdul Bari Bin Awad Al-Thobaity, the Imam and Preacher of the Prophet’s Mosque in Al-Madinah.

Among the other members is Datuk Dr. Zulkefli bin A. Hassan, Chief Secretary of Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.

The Rector of MEDIU is Professor Dr. Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al-Tamimi, who was appointed by Prince Dr. Bandar bin Salman Aal-Saud, the chairman of the University Council.

Judge Hiram Bond was born in 1838 in Farmersville, Cattaragus County, New York in 1838 and died in Seattle in 1906. He was a corporate lawyer, investment banker and an investor in various businesses including gold mining. Jdge Bond is chiefly remembered as the basis for the character Judge Miller in Jack London's novel "The Call of the Wild". Judge Bond's sons were Louis Bond and Marshall Bond who were mining engineers educated at Yale and Stanford. The Bonds owned the cabin and tent pitch overlooking Dawson City, in the Northwest Territory where Jack London had lived on a work exchange during the Fall of 1897 and part of the Spring of 1898. The Bond brothers had also owned the sled dogs that London used in Dawson for the Bonds and other of his clients. One of their was the basis for the character Buck. London visited Marshall Bond at Judge Bond's Ranch in Santa Clara and "The Call of the Wild"" begins with a description.

Dr. Eldon R. Smith, OC, MD, FRCPC is currently the Chair of the Strategic Advisory Board of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta (LCIA). A cardiologist by training, he has also held numerous significant positions over his career including Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary and the role of President for both the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and the Association of Canadian Medical Colleges.

In addition to Dr. Smith's current role with the LCIA, he is also Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology. As of October 2006, Dr. Smith has been the Chair of the Steering Committee of the Government of Canada's Heart Health Strategy. Dr. Smith is also the current President and Director of the Peter Lougheed Medical Research Foundation, a national initiative to support excellence in health research in Canada.

"Shadow memory" is a phrase used to describes a computer science technique in which potentially every byte used by a program during its execution has a shadow byte or bytes. These shadow bytes are typically invisible to the original program and are used to record information about the original piece of data. The program is typically kept unaware of the existence of shadow memory by using a dynamic binary instrumentor, which, among other things, may translate the original programs memory read and write operations into operations that do the original read and write and also update the shadow memory as necessary.

Naturally, this technique when implemented naively has both high slowdown and large memory requirements. The shadow memory requirements can be lessened through two level tables, similar to those used by modern operating systems for virtual memory lookup. For example, initially all first level page entries (each entry might cover 128kB) might point to a reserved "invalid" or "uninitialized" page entry. As the program reads/writes to/from a section specified by a page entry, then a new page entry is automatically created and initialized with the default values. Future reads/writes to that section will use that newly created entry.

The slowdown is harder to overcome, as each load and store must somehow result in the shadow memory being updated if 100% correctness is desired. Furthermore, modern CPUs perform relatively poorly when doing data intensive tasks due to the limits of local cache sizes.

In the early 90s, he served as the Artistic Director of the historic Pasadena Playhouse. Lazarus has directed over eighty plays and musicals. His play, A Tale of Charles Dickens, co-written with Janet Jones, was produced and recorded for radio by Los Angeles Theater Works in association with the Antaeus Theater Company. Other credits include directing Neil Simon's Biloxi Blues, Personals (which was written by Marta Kauffman, David Crane, Stephen Schwartz and Alan Menken), Kristin Chenoweth in her solo concert debut, The People vs. Mona, Mark St. Germain's Camping With Henry And Tom (starring Robert Prosky, Ronny Cox and John Cunningham) and The 24th Day (starring Noah Wyle and Peter Berg).

Lazarus produced and directed A Stephen Sondheim Evening, which starred Angela Lansbury, George Hearn and Sondheim. It was recorded by RCA Records and received a Grammy Award nomination. He produced and hosted Anything Goes, an award-winning radio series celebrating the American musical theater past, present and future for WBAI-FM.

Ruskin College was built in its present location at Walton St, Jericho, in order for its students to study alongside some of the world’s highest academics, the most elite, learned, and successful people in the world. Its location in the centre of Oxford is still what draws in the majority of its students; the opportunity to go to oxford university lectures, visit the Bodleian library, have use of oxford university faculty libraries and take part in oxford union debates have always been part of what makes Ruskin so special.
Headington Campus was bought as an overflow site, to take pressure off the main site, and allow for further expansion. It was never intended to be the main or only campus.
Ruskin has given the Privileges of the highest of the elite to people from some of the most disadvantaged backgrounds, who have never been given or had a real chance in life because of circumstances: be that accident of birth, upbringing, disability or whatever reason either way, The majority of Ruskin graduates go on to be professionals. Authors, lecturers, trade union leaders, presidents of their countries, mp’s – have all come from Ruskin, and started with little or no education or prospects.

Where is the other 10 million coming from? Why are such drastic measures being made to raise just over a third of the budget? If we are going to be raising funds anyway, why rush in and sell our assets?, why not wait until we have enough money to develop Headington without selling Walton street, and then raise money until we can redevelop Walton street? What is the rush to build?
• The plan was the creation of the principal, a highly merited social sciences academic – but not an architect or a businessperson: this is the main reason we would have to sell the original college and move to the site in Headington. The current principal has done a lot of good work at this college, but this is one idea which must be re-addressed and made flexible, as its current rigid nature is stifling progress, and threatening the core of the college.

The plan would leave us with less lecture rooms & less student rooms (accommodation) than what we currently have now.

The plan (if we sell Walton street) would cause us to lose our oxford union membership

The plan involves spending over 2 million on a restaurant whose only practical purpose would be to feed the students in the interim period between bulldozing the existing canteen and building a new one.

• A property developer offered to give around 4 million, fully redevelop Walton St (a roughly 5 million pound task for a building company, or a task that could easily cost double that for an academic institution hiring private contractors.) In exchange for a 150 year long lease(150 year rent basically), on the back end of the property (the Kitson and Dining blocks). It is also common sense that the developers would continue to refurbish their end of the building in order to keep getting the most from their investment.

The administration have now decided ignore this offer as it didn’t offer enough ready cash for the redevelopment of Headington

• The new library, which the sale of Walton street would help finance. Is expected to cost 6 million Walton street is a huge set of buildings – of which the existing library is only a tiny part, is on the market for 7.5 million The new library would also only be a fraction of the size of Walton street – (although much larger than the current library, not least because, the current library (at Walton St) only has half (or possibly a 3rd of) as many floors as planned because not enough funds were raised to finish building it,… The proposed library would be wonderful, but could history repeat itself? The proposed Kitson library would also have been wonderful, and would still work today, if it had been completed We have overstretched ourselves in plans before – and ended up having to compromise, this time we also have to take a huge gamble. Is it worth it? Should we learn from previous mistakes?
• The re-development is apparently for the students, to give them what they want. The students have had no briefing, no seminar no nothing – on the principals plans for the future of Ruskin – although repeated articles have been placed in the oxford mail. (the college being been put up for sale in the mail was without the consent of the board of governors)

Ruskin College was built in its present location at Walton St, Jericho, in order for its students to study alongside some of the world’s highest academics, the most elite, learned, and successful people in the world. Its location in the centre of Oxford is still what draws in the majority of its students; the opportunity to go to oxford university lectures, visit the Bodleian library, have use of oxford university faculty libraries and take part in oxford union debates have always been part of what makes Ruskin so special.

Headington Campus was bought as an overflow site, to take pressure off the main site, and allow for further expansion. It was never intended to be the main or only campus.

Ruskin has given the Privileges of the highest of the elite to people from some of the most disadvantaged backgrounds, who have never been given or had a real chance in life because of circumstances: be that accident of birth, upbringing, disability or whatever reason either way, The majority of Ruskin graduates go on to be professionals. Authors, lecturers, trade union leaders, presidents of their countries, mp’s – have all come from Ruskin, and started with little or no education or prospects.

Walton Street is on the open market for 7.5millionThe college has 2.5 million in the bank (from sale of existing properties)
The Headington redevelopment requires 20million pounds
Where is the other 10 million coming from? Why are such drastic measures being made to raise just over a third of the budget?
If we are going to be raising funds anyway, why rush in and sell our assets?, why not wait until we have enough money to develop Headington without selling Walton street, and then raise money until we can redevelop Walton street? What is the rush to build?

The Plans For Redevelopment

The plan was the creation of the principal, a highly merited social sciences academic – but not an architect or a businessperson: this is the main reason we would have to sell the original college and move to the site in Headington. The current principal has done a lot of good work at this college, but this is one idea which must be re-addressed and made flexible, as its current rigid nature is stifling progress, and threatening the core of the college.

The plan would leave us with less lecture rooms & less student rooms (accommodation) than what we currently have now.

The plan (if we sell Walton street) would cause us to lose our oxford union membership

The plan involves spending over 2 million on a restaurant whose only practical purpose would be to feed the students in the interim period between bulldozing the existing canteen and building a new one.

Positive Alternative?

A property developer offered to give around 4 million, fully redevelop Walton St (a roughly 5 million pound task for a building company, or a task that could easily cost double that for an academic institution hiring private contractors.) In exchange for a 150 year long lease(150 year rent basically), on the back end of the property (the Kitson and Dining blocks). It is also common sense that the developers would continue to refurbish their end of the building in order to keep getting the most from their investment.

The administration have now decided ignore this offer as it didn’t offer enough ready cash for the redevelopment of Headington

The New Library

The new library, Is expected to cost 6 million Walton street is a huge set of buildings – of which the existing library is only a tiny part, is on the market for 7.5 million The new library would also only be a fraction of the size of Walton street – (although much larger than the current library, not least because, the current library (at Walton St) only has half (or possibly a 3rd of) as many floors as planned because not enough funds were raised to finish building it,… The proposed library would be wonderful, but could history repeat itself? The proposed Kitson library would also have been wonderful, and would still work today, if it had been completed We have overstretched ourselves in plans before – and ended up having to compromise, this time we also have to take a huge gamble. Is it worth it? Should we learn from previous mistakes?

The re-development is apparently for the students, to give them what they want

The students have had no briefing, no seminar no nothing – on the principals plans for the future of Ruskin – although repeated articles have been placed in the oxford mail. (the college being been put up for sale in the mail was without the consent of the board of governors)

The Debate

Open debate has always been a natural part of Ruskin College life, below is the current active debate - please feel free to add to it.


Pros: Argument (for the sale)

1. We would no longer have to waste time money and effort on cross campus administration
2. We would dispose of a building that has an archaic plumbing central heating and electricity system.
3. We would move to a site where parking would be better, and travel coming in and out of college / work would be much easier
4. We could attract more students
5. We could develop a better relationship with Brookes


Cons: Counter argument (against the sale)

1. No argument
2. It would cost hundreds of thousands to replace the current heating/lighting/plumbing, we are spending millions on redevelopment anyway, why not spend it where it is needed.
3. -a)Headington hall would be a nightmare for people who don’t know oxford to get to (I had to get a taxi from the college when I first came) –b)it isn’t near to any public transport links. (meaning people would have to use cars which is bad for green / sustainability) -c) Headington turns in to a solid traffic jam every afternoon during rush the hours.
4. –a) The main attraction of Ruskin to students is the location of its Walton street site –b) why would we want to attract more students anyway, when we are effectively downsizing?
5. We could jeopardize our relationship with Oxford

John William Corrington (d. 1988) was an American television writer, novelist, poet, and lawyer. He received a B.A. degree from Centenary College in 1956 and his M.A. from Rice University in 1960, the year he took on his first teaching position in the English Department at LSU. While on leave from LSU, Corrington obtained his D.Phil. in 1965 from the University of Sussex, and then, in 1966, moved to Loyola University-New Orleans as Associate Professor of English, where he also served as chair of the English Department. Corrington graduated from Tulane Law School in 1975, joined a small New Orleans personal injury law firm, Plotkin & Bradley, and spend the next three years practicing law.

Corrington gave up the practice of law in 1978, and working with his wife Joyce Corrington, they became Head Writers for the daytime serial, Search For Tomorrow. From 1978 to 1988, he wrote scripts for Search For Tomorrow (1978-80)(477 episodes); Another World (1980) (23 episodes); Texas, 1980-82 (147 episodes); General Hospital (1982) (54 episodes); Capitol (1982-83) (167 episodes); One Life To Live (1984) (98 episodes); Rituals (1984, Story Consultant) and finally, Superior Court, a syndicated series (1986-89)(238 episodes). He is credited as the wirter for [[The Omega Man and I Am Legend.

Centenary College has an award in his name, the John William Corrington Award for Literary Excellence.

Joël Fajerman is a french artist renowned for his use of synthesizers.

  • In 1979 he composed the music for a new TV series called "THE ADVENTURES OF PLANTS".
  • Later he composed music for another TV series called "THE INVENTIONS OF LIFE".

Jan Jacobsen (d. 1622) was a 17th century Dutch privateer who, like other Dunkirkers such as Karel Verburg and Jan Jansen, operated out of France during the Eighty Years' War attacking Dutch shipping on behalf of Great Britain. [3] In late-1622, Jacobsen attempted to break the blockade of the Flemish coastline [4] with the intention of locating the Dutch-Baltic convoy. Sailing from Ostend with three warships, the small fleet was detected by warships belonging to the blockade. While the other two ships escaped, Jacobsen turned to face the nine pursuing blockaders and engaged in battle with them. After battling over 13 hours, Jacobsen destroyed his own frigate taking two enemy ships as well. The surviving members of his 170-man crew [5] were eventually picked up and eventually tried and hanged for piracy.

This incident, comparable to English admiral Sir Richard Grenville and the HMS Revenge, created a mythological figure of Jacobsen and his crew who would later be regarded as martyrs to the Flemish. [6]

Manuel Rivero Pardel

Manuel Rivero Pardel (d. 1671) was a 17th century Portuguese privateer in Spanish service during the late 1660s and early 1670s. Pardel was originally hired by the Spanish to attack British bases in the Caribbean following Captain Henry Morgan's raid on Puerto Bello in 1668. Although it was anticipated that he would take on Morgan himself, Pardel instead attacked the turtle settlement on Little Cayman in 1670. Flying under false colors with a fleet of five ships, Pardel's 200-man force landed on the beach burning homes and turtle sloops and captured the Jamaican ship Hopewell. Before leaving for Cuba, he reportedly took two sloops and several prisoners with him.

While in Cuba, he encountered Dutch pirate Bernard Spierdyke and later captured his ship. Upon his return to Cartagena in 1671, a festival was held in his honor and was appointed "Admiral of the Corsairs" by the Governor. During that same year, he sailed with his flagship the San Pedro and a captured French frigate seizing another sloop and attacking remote villages on the northern Jamaican coastline. According to popular lore, he wrote a poem issuing a challenge to Captain Henry Morgan which was written on sailcloth and hung on a tree at Point Negril:

"I come to seek General Morgan with two shippes of twenty guns and, having seen this, I crave he would come out upon ye coast to seeke mee, that hee might see ye valour of ye Spanish."

Authorities in Jamaica were alarmed to the extent that Governor Thomas Modyford authorized Captain Morgan to defend Port Royal against Pardel, however Morgan instead used this an excuse to assemble a fleet to launch the now famous raid on Panama in spite of the peace agreement between Great Britain and Spain following the signing of the Treaty of Madrid.

Pardel was eventually killed and his flagship San Pedro y Fama captured off the north coast of Cuba while in battle against Captain John Morris, a lieutenant of Captain Morgan. [1]

Macon, GA -- The Georgia Gwizzlies today(10/18/2007) announced that they have signed Iranian born Behdad Sami to their roster of players. Currently residing in Oregon, according to team owner Embry Malone, "We believe that Behdad is the one and only professional Iranian basketball player in the US. USBASKET.COM shows only six Iranians playing basketball in the US at a higher level than high school. All six are still in college. And the best part, he's very good."

"Atlanta has the second largest Persian community in the USA," added Malone. Hopefully people from Atlanta will spread the word and make the trip to Macon to see him play. I know that they will turn out in force when we visit the Atlanta Vision this season. Behdad is a top notch athlete and will change the perception of Iranian players. Hopefully he will be a huge influence and a role model to all Iranian kids.

Behad is 5'11" and can dunk, he is unbelievably quick and fundamentally sound. For the last three years, he has been training with HoopDreams and personally trains with Kumbeno Memory ( www.hoopdreams.info ). He played a year at Linn Benton College and has also played professionally in Romania and attended the China Basketball Association camp run by the US Basketball Academy.

Slam Magazine also covered an article on 17 reason to check out the ABA, Behdad was the 11th reason and Slam wrote, "In Macon, GA, the Georgia Grizzlies have signed Behdad Sami, the only professional basketball player of Iranian decent in the United States. In a time of war, maybe the orange ball can serve as a common ground."

Behdad, as athletic as any guard in the ABA or NBA has also been described as a leaper: Macon, GA -- Embry Malone, owner of the Georgia Gwizzlies, intends to enter two small guards into the ABA Slam Dunk competition at the 2008 All-Star Weekend.

"I've been watching 5'11 Behdad Sami, our Iranian point guard and 6'1 Stuart Mitchell in practice the last couple of weeks and have seen both of them doing what I think has been reserved for 6'4-6'9 inch players. They are amazing talents and I think having these guys will really delight the fans. We've been lobbying for the league to have the ABA All Star game in Middle Georgia and as I understand it, we are in the running. We've been getting great support from the media here. I hope it happens - and fans worldwide can see these two remarkable talents with a spectacular array of dunks. Their vertical jumps are amazing."

Julian Rios (b. 1970 in West Covina, California) is an American male pornographic actor. He was raised in Everett, Washington {{Fact}}.
