Hi Kayaker. Just flagging with you that I've raised a query about adding photos to Death pages on the talk page. Nothing personal, I just foresee a space problem if that were allowed to be a general policy. Cheers JackofOz 12:40, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi, just looking for a clarification. It looks like you edited the article on Aug 12 2005 to include a reference to "possible cameo appearances from Sora Takenouchi". Seeing as this is a Japanese children's cartoon character, it doesn't seem to make sense in the context of Garrison Keillor, APHC, Robert Altman, etc. Do you know anything more about this? Thanks. (link to article talk page) --BlueCanoe 19:46, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for awarding me a barnstar and for your offer of help. I created a to do list for the migration here. "Updating the currentevents-url in quickbar" is a non-urgent update required at some point, something I haven't researched how to do yet. Since you were the founder of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Current events you might find it interesting to help with that. Thanks again&mdash;Kayaker 22:30, 30 June 2006 (UTC).

:I'm quite sure an administrator will have to take care of the quickbar change. When the portal becomes ready for its premiere, we could post something on the administrators' noticeboard. Also, take a look at some of the suggestions from the portal's talk page. I don't want to step on your toes, but the current events page is in dire need of a layout change regarding those right and bottom sidebars (the top one looks great). ::I hadn't confirmed the need for an administrator to do it, but I suspect you're right. With respect to your suggestions at Portal talk:Current events, I think its great that you're anxious to engage in that discussion. If you've been following along on my proposal to move Current events into the portal namespace, you'll notice that I was anxious to minimize any initial layout and look-and-feel changes to Current events because of its maturity. I also thought it would complicate things to combine the change I proposed with a broader change to the layout. Once the dust settles on the move, I look forward to adding my $0.02 about your proposals, and I look forward to any mockups you end up creating to illustrate your ideas. Thanks&mdash;Kayaker 23:03, 30 June 2006 (UTC).

If you decide to ahead with the move now, I think you should move some of the old month articles (e.g. June 2006) to the portal space (e.g. Portal:Current events/June 2006). The same goes with the templates that are only used on the current events portal. == Care to be identifed as a portal maintainer? ==

Since you are the founder of Wikipedia:WikiProject Current events, and will be (I have no doubt) a future admin, and as someone with good ideas about improving the layout and organization of the portal, please consider adding yourself as a maintainer of Portal:Current events at Wikipedia:Portal/Directory#History. While I've been a Wikipedian and regular contributor since it has about 100,000 articles, 99% of what I do is done without logging in and therefore outside of the community. All of these reasons as well as your enthusiasm for current events, portals, etc. lead me to hope you'll consider identifying yourself as a maintainer. :Thanks for the suggestion; I'll add myself to the list. By the way, would you consider moving the portal to People and Society? It doesn't seem to go along well with the other portals in the History section, which relate to (mostly) ancient history. However, current events seem to deal with issues that affect society today. A tag has been placed on :Portal:Current events, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding <code>hangon</code> to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.<!-- Template:Db-repost-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> <span style="color:#759653;">Pookeo9</span> Talk If you need anything 22:38, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to :Image:HolbrookAsTwain.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Articles for deletion nomination of :Portal:Current events
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Speedy deletion nomination of :Portal:Current events

Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.<!-- Template:Db-repost-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> <font color="759653">Pookeo9</font> <font color="7726ff">Talk If you need anything</font> 22:38, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

First welcome on this account

Welcome!

Hello, Kayaker, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, you can post to the help desk or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- Francs2000 | Talk 11:08, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

An earlier welcome

One of several previous welcomes I've received since May 2003, while contributing as User:67.100.123.77. I had just created President's Daily Briefing (back then it looked like this...:

Hi. Nice work on President's Daily Briefing. You should really create an account. We could definitely use your help. Thanks again, Meelar 23:07, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hi Kayaker. Just flagging with you that I've raised a query about adding photos to Death pages on the talk page. Nothing personal, I just foresee a space problem if that were allowed to be a general policy. Cheers JackofOz 12:40, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. I explained myself on Talk:Deaths in 2005, probably to no avail...

A Prairie Home Companion (film)

[edit]

Hi, just looking for a clarification. It looks like you edited the article on Aug 12 2005 to include a reference to "possible cameo appearances from Sora Takenouchi". Seeing as this is a Japanese children's cartoon character, it doesn't seem to make sense in the context of Garrison Keillor, APHC, Robert Altman, etc. Do you know anything more about this? Thanks. A Barnstar for You

[edit]
The Current Events Barnstar
I hereby award you this current events barnstar for your efforts to move Current events to a much better location, at Portal:Current events. joturner 22:04, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Keep up the good work. If you need any assistance with the move, I would be glad to help (go ahead, post a comment on my talk page, especially if the border color is yellow or green). I'll try tackling some of the things you outlined on Talk:Current events. joturner 22:04, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thank you for awarding me a barnstar and for your offer of help. I created a to do list for the migration here. "Updating the currentevents-url in quickbar" is a non-urgent update required at some point, something I haven't researched how to do yet. Since you were the founder of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Current events you might find it interesting to help with that. Thanks again—Kayaker 22:30, 30 June 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I'm quite sure an administrator will have to take care of the quickbar change. When the portal becomes ready for its premiere, we could post something on the administrators' noticeboard. Also, take a look at some of the suggestions from the portal's talk page. I don't want to step on your toes, but the current events page is in dire need of a layout change regarding those right and bottom sidebars (the top one looks great). joturner 22:40, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't confirmed the need for an administrator to do it, but I suspect you're right. Thanks—Kayaker (talk · contribs) 23:03, 30 June 2006 (UTC).[reply]
Alright; I'll leave things as-is and just create a mockup in the meantime. joturner 23:05, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moves to Portalspace

[edit]

If you decide to ahead with the move now, I think you should move some of the old month articles (e.g. June 2006) to the portal space (e.g. Portal:Current events/June 2006). The same goes with the templates that are only used on the current events portal. joturner 00:06, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:Current events Redesign Proposal

[edit]

I created a mockup for a redesign of the Current events page (or rather its portal). It can be found here. Please post your comments regarding the proposal on its talk page. Thanks in advance. joturner 06:08, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Care to be identified as a portal maintainer?

[edit]

Kayaker 18:33, 2 July 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll add myself to the list. By the way, would you consider moving the portal to People and Society? It doesn't seem to go along well with the other portals in the History section, which relate to (mostly) ancient history. However, current events seem to deal with issues that affect society today. joturner 18:54, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Current Events

[edit]

Thanks for the kudos! Also, thank you for the heads up on the talk page. This is now the third time I forget to fix that after archiving that page. I need a better "check list"! Awolf002 22:12, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:Current events/Newsbrowsebar

[edit]

Specifically where do I nominate a page for inclusion in this template? I believe that July 2006 in video gaming (current events in video games) deserves inclusion. Morgan695 01:51, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Current Events Portal Redesign

[edit]

Since you were in support of the the redesign of Portal:Current events, but also in support of archivals in the mainspace, I'd like to invite you to look at a a comment I made. joturner 01:48, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Portal:Current events, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. MfD nomination of Portal:Current events

[edit]

Portal:Current events, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Current events and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Portal:Current events during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Pookeo9 Talk If you need anything 22:45, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
