Please stop posting information from musicianforums.com to Wikipedia articles. If the text is copied directly from there, it is a copyright violation and we cannot accept it. Some of the articles you have created so far are about non-notable topics and will be deleted. In other cases, like Troll, you have added irrelevant comments to articles. Please read the Wikipedia:Tutorial before adding more articles. Thanks. FreplySpang (talk) 20:47, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

*Your contributions have already all been speedily deleted as unhelpful and unencyclopedic. Wikipedia doesn't need "more traffic." We're already ranked #57 by Alexa. Further additions will all be deleted as well, so why waste your time and ours? FCYTravis 20:56, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

The links that you are adding aren't encyclopedic, and basically amount to advertisments for the forum. Please don't add spam to Wikipedia. Thank you. Joyous (talk) 20:58, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

If you would like, I could change "musicianforums.com" to "mx" and the users would still know what I'm referring to, without it being an advertisement. :)
*Why would we want something in the encyclopedia that only users of your forum would recognize? Joyous (talk) 21:02, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

Actually, it's not "my" forum. I'm merely a user of the forums.

And a majority of these definitions will apply to other forums, and some of them even apply to almost all forums.

*Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you want to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Joyous (talk) 21:09, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

I've tried to explain what I'm doing as best as I could, but people ignore it.

All I can do is link you to this:
http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=374158

Unless you produce evidence that your self-created terms have appeared at other messageboards/discussion forums, the definitions are useless to Wikipedia as a whole. --Madchester 21:12, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

*We're not ignoring you. We're telling you that your definitions do not fit encyclopaedic criteria. It's great that you have a forum-specific dictionary. In fact, maybe you might want to start your own Wiki at http://www.wikicities.com to host it. But your forum-specific dictionary's contents are not suitable for Wikipedia. FCYTravis 21:13, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

:*And we are trying to explain to you that the contributions you are making aren't what we consider encyclopedic. If you continue to add such edits, they will be removed, and you may be blocked from editing at all. Joyous (talk) 21:13, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

Adam's original reply
In case some of you haven't seen it, this was this user's reply to my original request (and, I think, FCYTravis' and Joyous' as well). I have more to say but I'm trying to avoid edit conflicts. FreplySpang (talk) 21:16, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry about this, I don't know how else to talk to you.

Alright, here's the deal on my musicianforums.com stuff.

Over at musicianforums.com, we made an mx dictionary with all of the popular terms and such and explaining their meanings and origins. I was then asked by a mod to index all of the definitions on wikipedia. I have also been putting the "Courtesy of musicianforums.com" in, so that the users of mx will see that the definition refers to that forum, and not to something else, to prevent confusion. Don't worry this isn't spam, and it even has the potential to increase wikipedia's traffic by up to 80,000 users!

So, in conclusion, there are no copyright issues, as not only do I have permission to post these definitions, but I was asked to. Not only that, but I'm bringing in site views, traffic, definitions, and even new users for you, wikipedia.

Anyways, sorry for any confusion, and I'm going to continue posting definitions. Also, if you explain to me how to use user talk, I will utilize it next time around.

Thanks, -Adam

So you may not need more traffic. As for unhelpful and unencyclopedic, they are helping up to 80,000 people use wiki for popular internet definitions, and a large portion of these definitions apply to other internet forums aswell. Unenecyclopedic? I think for the most part, they are encyclopedic, with a few exceptions. Feel free to delete the exceptions, but I really don't think that all of my definitions should be removed, as some of them actually are helpful and have not been indexed yet.

Thanks Again, -Adam

Adam, thank you for your original reply on my talk page. People are not necessarily ignoring this explanation; they might not have known where to look for it. I don't quite get what you meant about "indexing" definitions. However, it's not just up to the musiciansforum.com folks to decide about whether their material belongs here. The Wikipedia community has certain standards that these articles don't meet. In particular, Wikipedia is not a dictionary. We do not accept standalone dictionary definitions. Also, catchphrases from Web forums, even large ones, have been voted on before and generally not accepted. So, once again, please check out the Wikipedia:Tutorial and try to get a feeling for what kind of articles are welcome here before creating large numbers of new ones. Thanks, FreplySpang (talk) 21:19, August 7, 2005 (UTC)
