-The '''Grand Canyon Synod''' is a ''[[synod#Lutheran usage|synod]]'', or [[diocese]], of the [[Evangelical Lutheran Church in America]] (ELCA). It comprises the state of [[Arizona]] and southern [[Nevada]].  The synod is made up of 108 congregations as of August 2008.
-On May 26, 2006, The Rev. Steve Talmage was elected as the third Bishop of the Grand Canyon Synod. The Grand Canyon Synod met in Assembly in [[Tucson, Arizona]] from May 24-26th.
-Pastor Talmage served as pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in [[Peoria, Arizona]] for sixteen years prior to his election. He has also served as assistant pastor and pastor in Tucson. He graduated from the [[University of Arizona]] and [[Wartburg Theological Seminary]]. Bishop Talmage assumed office in August 2006. The Synod headquarters are in [[Phoenix, Arizona]]. The Rev. Alton Zenker had served as interim Bishop since January, when former Bishop Michael Neils resigned.
