Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, :Dennis Walker (footballer), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. == U23/U21 and stats ==

You have incorrectly added u23 catergories to multiple articles, all of which are incorrect, England played their first u21/23 match in 1971, the players you have added this to never played for these. Some were in their 30s when you say they played. None are cited. A

Apperences by calculations are excepted with clear sourcing not a mention to a paper.#

Both of these are a breach of WP:BLP. Murry1975 (talk) 17:13, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

:Your claim that England played their first U23 international in 1971 is very far off the mark.
Who supplied you with this misinformation?
They played against Italy in Bologna in January 1954 (losing 0-3) with a team including
Ray Wood, Phil Gunter, Syd Ellis, Jeff Whitefoot, Duncan Edwards, Stuart Leary, Johnny Haynes and Frank Blunstone.
Most of the articles I added to the England under-23 players category, stated that those players had under-23 international caps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.167.47.230 (talk) 17:37, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

::Your source? Murry1975 (talk) 18:03, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

My sources? Take your pick. I have numerous editions of Rothman's Football Yearbook and News of the World Football Annnual. Also, if you check the RSSSF site (frequently used as a source for wikipedia articles), you will see that England played their first U23 international against Italy on January 20, 1954. (the team: Ray Wood; Phil Gunter, Syd Ellis, Jeff Whitefoot, Bill Dodgin, Duncan Edwards; Alan Finney, Peter Broadbent, Stuart Leary, Johnny Nicholls, Frank Blunstone)
This info is not hard to come by. The notion that England played their first U23 match in 1971 isn't even remotely correct! By 1971, England had already played more than 80 such internationals.

If an article states that a certain player has represented England U23, why, then, is it wrong to add it to the relevant category page?

Anonymous users from this IP address have been blocked temporarily from editing for abuse of editing privileges. Otherwise, once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: <!-- Copy the text as it appears on your page, not as it appears in this edit area. :Its wrong to add a catergory to an article without adding a source (probably should get a quick mention in the article). Sources are needed for addition to articles about people espically living ones. When your block expires it would be a good idea to added these to the article you have edited, here is a how to link, WP:CITE/ES. I notice that edits like this have become pretty common for you and although I appreciate the fact that you are using sources to back up your claims, the way you are presenting them doesn't actually introduce them into the article. As such, nobody can really benefit from your research. The point of the sources is to give readers a point of authority where they can verify Wikipedia's claims and possibly gain more information about the topic. So leaving the source in the edit summary leaves the reader with nothing. Wikipedia has some pretty good guides for how to format footnotes so that they appear within the article. See Help:Footnotes#Overview. If this is too difficult or confusing, please contact me at my talk page and I will try to help you to become comfortable with proper sourcing. Thanks for your contributions! -Thibbs (talk) 16:44, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Noted (with thanks to your offer of help).
Let me first point out that Larry Wyse's date of birth was stated in the article already. I merely added it to the info-box. There is an element of original research to my statistical contributions to League of Ireland players' careers in the sense that I have painstakingly compiled team line-ups week by week and season by season, using relevant issues of Irish Times as my source, before adding up the statistics myself. I have only tried to enhance the articles using research I have conducted myself, often from a variety of sources over a period of years.

How should I proceed?
Is my original research of interest?

Sincerely,
Odd E. Jenssen, Oslo, Norway.

:Well I must admit that I'm not a regular contributor to football-related articles so I'm uncertain about the answer. I should warn you, though, that the term "original research" is a loaded term on Wikipedia. You can see why at WP:OR. Specifically I worry that your material might be labeled "synthesis" (see WP:SYNTH). But I really don't know how the football articles are handled. Your best bet would be to contact WikiProject Football at WT:FOOTY and ask them for advice. The editors there would be in a much better position to give you a solid answer. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. -Thibbs (talk) 18:02, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
