He was born in [[Wakefield]], [[Yorkshire]] and was educated at [[Outwood Grange Academy]] until the age of 18 when he then attended [[Durham University]].<ref name="PROD"/>

From the age of 12-18, Patel played with the [[Yorkshire County Cricket Club|Yorkshire]] age group and Academy sides. Whilst studying for his degree in Sports at [[Durham University]],<ref name="PROD"/> in his first year, Patel made his [[first-class cricket|first-class]] debut for [[Durham MCC University|Durham MCCU]] against [[Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club|Nottinghamshire]] at [[The Racecourse#Cricket Ground|The Racecourse]] in 2010. ==Charity Fundraising==
On 22 April 2018, Patel completed the [[2018 London Marathon]], wearing bib number 34001. This was the 38th annual [[London Marathon]] (currently known through sponsorship as the '''Virgin Money London Marathon''') to raise money for [[Alzheimer's Research UK]].
(ARUK) is the [[United Kingdom]]'s leading [[dementia]] research charity.
He choose that charity as his grandfather former [[Wakefield Trinity]] [[rugby league]] player [[Keith Holliday]] suffered and later died from the disease in 2017. He raised over £3,000 for the charity.
