Hi .. quick query re coordinates, as you appear expert in them. Why are they helpful (I might be interested in availing myself of their helpfulness), and how does one quickly find them to add them to an article? Many thanks.--[[User:Epeefleche|Epeefleche]] ([[User talk:Epeefleche|talk]]) 23:10, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
:Coordinates add context to an article and icons appear on google earth (eventually). I use google images, Bing birdseye view and google streetview to cross reference locations. Then I centre google maps on the location and copy this code into the address bar and press enter <blockquote><tt><nowiki>javascript:void(prompt('',"{{coord|" + gApplication.getMap().getCenter().lat() + "|" + gApplication.getMap().getCenter().lng() + "}}"));</nowiki></tt></blockquote> Then I copy the text out of dialogue box, paste it into the article and trim the coordinates to appropriate accuracy (usually 4 decimal places for a building). Can you post a coordinate for the source of this photograph. I have no reference to hand but I wonder if the location you have just given for Trumpers Crossing Halt is correct as it is NW of where Trumpers Way meets the railway and Trumpers Way seems to have the only bridge over the canal.--[[User:SilasW|SilasW]] ([[User talk:SilasW|talk]]) 15:45, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

==File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Bastøy Prison.jpg==
[[File:Copyright-problem.svg|64px|left|File Copyright problem|link=]]
Thanks for uploading '''[[:File:Bastøy Prison.jpg]]'''. However, it currently is missing information on its '''copyright''' status and its '''source'''. Wikipedia takes [[Wikipedia:Copyrights|copyright]] very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the '''[[WP:IUP#Adding images|image use policy]]''' to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on '''[[Wikipedia:Image copyright tags|copyright tags]]''' may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

If the file is already gone, you can still make a [[Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion|request for undeletion]] and ask for a chance to fix the problem.<!-- Template:You can request undeletion -->
Wondering... On what basis do you consider [http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Noam_Chomsky&diff=prev&oldid=341756675 this edit] to represent a misunderstanding of state capitalism? [[User:Pinkville|Pinkville]] ([[User talk:Pinkville|talk]]) 05:43, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
:I've always understood state capitalism to be a term criticising soviet style communism. After your query, I found this article [http://www.chomsky.info/interviews/1991----02.htm] where Chomsky uses the term in a wider sense, but I think he's making a point about semantics. I now see it might not be a "misunderstanding", although I do think it could be a misleading term to use. It also has all arms that join the canal shown.
My problem is that I have no idea how to add this to the web page.
It is currently in an excel spread sheet format but can be put into a word document.

I don't think the text as it stands is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. I have created a new page, [[Nature reserves in Barnet]], a table of reserves listed in Barnet on the Mayor of London's Wildweb. I have put in coordinates for the few sites where I found Wikipedia articles I could paste them from. The Wildweb site is very good, but its one weakness is in giving the location of sites, with only an illegible map, so I have put in whatever location I could find from Google etc. It will be quite a large job, but could you look at the page and check the locations and put in the missing coordinates? Thanks. [[User:Dudley Miles|Dudley Miles]] ([[User talk:Dudley Miles|talk]]) 23:55, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

I have added references for the part that you keep deleting. Your hostility towards edits that are based on a bit more local knowledge than that of a person from far away, is noted. As you certainly know full well, not every bit of information added to wikipedia is referenced, and not every bit that is not sourced needs to be savagely deleted. These facts are well known in Serbia where they had huge media cover, and you could have easily googled the sources and checked the facts yourself, if you had any shred of good faith and civil decency. But no, you had to attack and remove edits, post notices, and behave like some smart alec. If you think you can intimidate people, who you obviously profoundly disrespect, think again. And as you hand wave NPOV and other policies as some sort of ultimate authority, you must be also aware that you need to keep your political, colonial, racist, sexist or any other sort of bias that you might have under control. That goes for deeply seated prejudices too. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned]] comment added by [[Special:Contributions/109.121.81.183|109.121.81.183]] ([[User talk:109.121.81.183|talk]]) 20:02, 19 November 2010 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
:Hello I'm sorry if I have appeared uncivil or aggressive. The trouble is, if you are using your [[Wikipedia:No original research|local knowledge]] it needs to be backed up by [[wp:rs|reliable sources]]. Although you are correct that not all information on Wikipedia is sourced, the [[wp:burden|burden of evidence]] lies with the editor who added the information. Information without a reliable source directly supporting it can be deleted by anyone. You mention the notices I left on your talkpage, the first one I left welcomed you and assumed good faith and the second was neutral. You say NPOV should not be used as "some sort of ultimate authority", but adhering to a neutral point of view IS one the [[Wikipedia:Five pillars|five core policies]] of Wikipedia. Another of the five core policies is civility. I believe you have overstepped the mark with some of you assertions about my character in your above message, please could you strike through or delete them, and restrict your comments to improving the encyclopedia. The [[List of ancient Greek cities]] shows [[St Symeon]] (the Crusader port of [[Antioch]]) as another name for [[Seleucia Pieria]] (the Roman port of Antioch). I am almost sure this is wrong, and they were too different places, and I have posted a question on Orionist's talk page to ask whether he can confirm. Steven Runciman in his history of the First Crusade gives Suadiye as the modern name for St Symeon, and I now see that the OWTRAD Gazeteer at http://www.ciolek.com/OWTRAD/gazetteer-05.html has entries

This guy's last vandalism was about 12 hours ago, so it needs the full series of warnings. If the IP is not vandalizing now, there is no way of knowing if the IP has since changed (this one appears dynamic based on contributions) and thus a block would have no effect on the person that was actually using that IP to vandalize. [[Template:Uw-aiv]] is the boilerplate if you want to read that, too.--[[User:Chaser|Chaser]] ([[User talk:Chaser|talk]]) 04:25, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Please spell out what you are taking exception to, as I can not correct the behavior you found inappropriate without understanding why. :Hi Vulture, it would have been better if I had used a personalised message for a regular user such as yourself, I used a template notification because it assumed good faith and explained the policy. This is the edit [http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Douglas_Booth&diff=383534736&oldid=383534312] I was concerned about, the British spelling 'modelled' was changed to the US spelling 'modeled', it probably looked like a spelling mistake. Thanks for uploading File:Bastøy Prison.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

I have made up a full route map for the Grand Union Canal It has all locks, main road bridges, rail bridges, aquaducts, wharfs, winding holes and marinas. It also has all arms that join the canal shown. My problem is that I have no idea how to add this to the web page. It is currently in an excel spread sheet format but can be put into a word document.
