Manninen's first release was through [[Love Records]], which he recorded in 1979 with the ''Red House Blues Band''. In the 1980s, Manninen played in bands supporting bands such as [[Status Quo (band)|Status Quo]] and releasing albums on the [[Atlantic Records|Atlantic]] label. It was in this period that he met (and played with) guitarist [[Ben Granfelt]].
