This season saw no First Division teams apply for election to the Football League, with Watford relegated despite being above Brentford in the table. They were replaced by Division Two champions Fulham and second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion. In the Second Division the lack of teams meant that the Southern League had to incorporate [[reserve team|reserve teams]] into the Division to expand its numbers. Six were accepted, comprising of teams from First Division Millwall Athletic, Swindon Town, Reading, Southampton, Fulham, and Portsmouth. |
