Please note that some edits were made under my anon IP; I've redirected it (User_talk:216.103.50.52) here. The following topic was copied from that page:
Tallest float
* Which was the tallest float? According to the LA Times, the tallest float was the 62 feet Honda's clown float. It was published in last Sunday's paper. Ucla90024 (talk) 16:30, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
** If memory serves, the Tower of Terror float ("A Sudden Drop in Pitch") was 100 feet tall. I'm not sure, but I think even JPL's float a couple years ago was taller than 62 feet. That same ad section also got last year's theme wrong (it was Passport to the World's Celebrations, not just Passport to the World) so it clearly wasn't fact-checked all that well. 216.103.50.52 (talk) 05:34, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
** OK, following myself up: The JPL float I was thinking of was only 50 feet tall, but the Disney float was indeed "nearly" 100 feet tall -- see, for example, http://www.galenfrysinger.com/companies.htm 216.103.50.52 (talk) 05:43, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

ISSNs
Hi. I noticed that you like to fix ISSNs. I need you help! Please check Wikipedia:WikiProject Check Wikipedia/ISSN errors which provides a list with all broken/invalid ISSNs and help fix them! -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:55, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
: Magioladitis thanks for that -- I've been working through various CS1_errors (particularly dates), but it's good to know about this more comprehensive list of ISSN errors. It apparently hasn't been fully cleared in years, since the last entry on there was wrong since about 2008. I'll work on it as I get time. Given that there's under a couple hundred entries, shouldn't take long. --Floatjon (talk) 12:26, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

There is also 108 dump which focuses only on ISSN with wrong checksum. Your help is appreciated! -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:57, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
: Magioladitis OK, I've finished a first pass, knocking off all the easy ones from the list. The good news is that there are fewer than 30 entries left. The bad news is that the Google Books ref tool at http://reftag.appspot.com/gb.py is creating bad ISSNs almost as quickly as I can fix them (stripping hyphens). --Floatjon (talk) 08:52, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

"Fix date"??
Hi. I noticed you made this change to 3 GB barrier. The page history shows that that edit removed one character. And I can clearly see, in the previous version, that the template throws an error on that parameter, and that after your edit that error is gone and the access date is properly displayed. So... thank you for fixing the error!

But I can't for the life of me see what the error was, or what you changed, and it's bugging me. :) The diff display shows no change that I can see, not even e.g. a removed trailing space (not that a trailing space would cause the error from the template). Browser text searches within the page find "|accessdate=2016-06-07" in both versions, and in both sides of the diff display. In fact the exact same text string appears in many other cite templates on the page. But only this one raised an error. I was about to compare HTML in the two versions and thought... why don't I just ask Floatjon? So, here I am. :) Jeh (talk) 14:46, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
: There was some kind of weird, non-printing character following the date (added in the previous, otherwise good, edit). Showed up in my browser as a block with 4 digits in it. I removed it, and hey presto. --Floatjon (talk) 15:21, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
:: Added in my edit. But I swear I never touched that line. :) What browser are you using? Jeh (talk) 15:32, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
::: Firefox. Only saw it when I checked the page out to edit, though. Weird. --Floatjon (talk) 02:23, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

:: And now I know: 5400 Irwindale Ave (at Ornelas). Floatjon (talk) 22:56, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

Rose Parade theme
Wow. That was a strange one - "In mid-October 2019, Laura Farber was confirmed as President of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. She announced that the 107th Rose Bowl Game theme will be "Dream! Believe! Achieve!" The bowl game will be held on 1 January 2021 in AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX and returns to the Rose Bowl next year. The Tournament of Roses President will lead the 14-member Executive Committee and the organization of 935 volunteer members for the upcoming year." Wonder when and by whom it was made. And how we missed. Socalphoto (talk) 14:24, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

:: Probably right for Sweden and Taiwan at least, which are not in the official lists. I've "cn"ed them in the band article, and corrected the count (adding 1 because PCC counts as 2). We'll see what happens with Japan, Panama, and Italy, but for now, we have to go with what Tournament is saying. Haven't seen a tentative parade lineup yet, and I don't have access to the press portal. On another note, our vandal seems to have been scared off for now at least, yay. Maybe the drumbeat of announcements (judges, queen's court, grand marshal) finally did the trick, on top of the temporary block. Thanks for adding the photo! I've taken lots of photos in western Ohio, where I grew up, but only once (see the Port Washington article) have I gone through Tuscarawas County. Please leave me a note (go to my talk page and create a new section, or simply click the edit button if you'd like) if you have any questions about editing Wikipedia, and I'll try to help. Unfortunately, it's not done. It's technically possible, but only the developers can do it, and they have a backlog of bigger things to do. At one time, the situation was different, and Wikipedia:Changing attribution for an edit was created. Please note that it's no longer used. Nyttend (talk) 05:08, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Robert DeLong, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page EDM (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). ISSNs

[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you like to fix ISSNs. I need you help! Please check Wikipedia:WikiProject Check Wikipedia/ISSN errors which provides a list with all broken/invalid ISSNs and help fix them! -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:55, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Magioladitis: thanks for that -- I've been working through various CS1 errors (particularly dates), but it's good to know about this more comprehensive list of ISSN errors. It apparently hasn't been fully cleared in years, since the last entry on there was wrong since about 2008. I'll work on it as I get time. Given that there's under a couple hundred entries, shouldn't take long. --Floatjon (talk) 12:26, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is also Wikipedia:CHECKWIKI/WPC 108 dump which focuses only on ISSN with wrong checksum. Your help is appreciated! -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:57, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Magioladitis: OK, I've finished a first pass, knocking off all the easy ones from the list. The good news is that there are fewer than 30 entries left. The bad news is that the Google Books ref tool at http://reftag.appspot.com/gb.py is creating bad ISSNs almost as quickly as I can fix them (stripping hyphens). --Floatjon (talk) 08:52, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Fix date"??

[edit]

:) Jeh (talk) 14:46, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There was some kind of weird, non-printing character following the date (added in the previous, otherwise good, edit). Showed up in my browser as a block with 4 digits in it. I removed it, and hey presto. --Floatjon (talk) 15:21, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Added in my edit. But I swear I never touched that line. :) What browser are you using? Jeh (talk) 15:32, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Firefox. Only saw it when I checked the page out to edit, though. Weird. --Floatjon (talk) 02:23, 20 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rose Parade theme

[edit]

Socalphoto (talk) 14:24, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just incredible, keep saying no parade in 2022. Don't what his or her problem is. Any way to stop the vandalism? Don't remember how now. Socalphoto (talk) 20:05, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What good is a one-week protection. He or she will do them again after 1 week. Socalphoto (talk) 05:52, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Don't think the international bands will participate in the 2022 Rose Parade. They will again roll over to the 2023 Rose Parade. Socalphoto (talk) 01:54, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Probably right for Sweden and Taiwan at least, which are not in the official lists. Floatjon (talk) 06:15, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Panama already told me they are not coming because vaccination and travel restrictions. Socalphoto (talk) 15:38, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
