I apologize for not responding to previous inquiries with regards to the external link postings as I am rather new to the Wikipedia editing concept and was unaware of their existence. Artist Arena is a limited liability company that specializes in Fan Club/Ticketing services and can be researched upon through our official website: http://www.artistarena.com. We have signed contracts with various bands and their management, such as 3 Doors Down, Kid Rock, and Green Day, just to name a few, that accord us the rights to create an official fan club and maintain promotional rights thereafter. By posting external links to the fan club sites, we are providing the means for those individuals interested to become involved in the intimate fan community which we offer, not just acting on our contractual right to publicize and endorse. Feel free to message back and I'm hoping that from here on out I will be able to add the necessary links without further interruption. Thank you for your time.

Yes I'm aware of the previous instances and have apologized for that as I am not the only one who has tried to post an external link the past. The issue is while we can be considered a business, we are ultimately attempting to post OFFICIAL sites for the band which we have full permission to do by the band's management. Members can log onto our site and read unbiased information and news, communicate with other members throughout our server, and have access to digital media they normally would not have access to. My question is are you claiming that the only reason Artist Arena can't post an external link is because we charge our members a fee for such unbiased information priviledges, and thus can be confused as attempting to solicit? Help me because I'm just trying to understand the ludicrousness that is Wikipedia editing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artistarena (talk • contribs)

:There are two issues here.

*The appropriateness of these links. Our guidelines on external links specifically state that you should not be posting links to a site that you own, maintain, or represent. See Wikipedia:External links#Advertising and conflicts of interest for more on this. But even if an independent editor suggested posting these links, it is unlikely that they would be considered appropriate, based on the guidelines at Wikipedia:External links#Links normally to be avoided which list (among other things) the following considerations:-
**Links mainly intended to promote a website. See External link spamming.
**Links to sites that require payment or registration to view the relevant content, unless the site itself is the subject of the article, or the link is a convenience link to a citation. See below.
**Links to blogs, personal web pages and most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority (this exception is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for biographies).

*This account's block. Wikipedia:Blocking policy states that some types of user accounts are considered disruptive and may be blocked without warning, usually indefinitely - and includes among these types accounts that appear, based on their edit history, to exist for the sole or primary purpose of promoting a person, company, product, service, or organization. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Spam.

I hope you can appreciate that the above two factors in combination make it very unlikely that this block will be lifted. Welcome!

Hello, Artistarena, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place helpme before the question. Again, welcome!

I've noticed that you are adding a large number of links to commercial (membership-based) websites, which require registration. Please review our external links guidelines (Wikipedia:External links) and avoid posting such links in future. You might also wish to see our guidelines on conflict of interest. Regards, SHEFFIELDSTEELTALK 18:17, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thedarxide (talk) 10:10, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for vandalism - this account is being used only for promotional purposes.. If you believe this block is unjustified you may contest this block by adding the text Your reason here below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

You've been warned by different editors, but you haven't stopped adding inappropriate external links, you haven't discussed this, and in several cases you've gone back and replaced links that were removed. As these are the only edits you've made, i.e. this account is being used only for promotional purposes, it seems reasonable to block it indefinitely in accordance with our blocking policy. [Unblock | Posting Official Fan Clubs for Bands]

[edit]

I'm not 100% sure how to proceed with this. I think the links you've been posting aren't suitable, but clearly you'd be better off getting the benefit of wider opinions. Let me request feedback on the administrators' noticeboard, and you should hear something soon. Thanks. SHEFFIELDSTEELTALK 20:51, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are two issues here.
  • The appropriateness of these links. Our guidelines on external links specifically state that you should not be posting links to a site that you own, maintain, or represent. See Wikipedia:External links#Advertising and conflicts of interest for more on this. But even if an independent editor suggested posting these links, it is unlikely that they would be considered appropriate, based on the guidelines at Wikipedia:External links#Links normally to be avoided which list (among other things) the following considerations:-
    • Links mainly intended to promote a website. See External link spamming.
    • Links to sites that require payment or registration to view the relevant content, unless the site itself is the subject of the article, or the link is a convenience link to a citation. See below.
    • Links to blogs, personal web pages and most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority (this exception is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for biographies).
  • This account's block.

SHEFFIELDSTEELTALK 20:38, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
