Unfortunately I don't know much about the subject, although I could see that some of the recent edits (both by you and by Wikireader41) were not neutral - but if you add your own point of view, even if it is only replacing the point of view of another editor, it will often result in you being reverted and blocked. —Snigbrook 13:17, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Leyland Trucks information

Hi. My name is Steve Whelan and I was responsible for adding the content to the LEYLAND TRUCKS section that was deleted by you. I work for Leyland Trucks and own the content of the Leylandtrucksltd.co.uk site. My reasons for updating the Wiki site is to ensure that people who want to research Leyland get the most up to date factual information that they can. I have written the content of the Leyland site and found it easier to use the same text when updating the Wiki site. I am not a technical person and could do with some help here as to what I can and can't put on the site. I will make some further updates bearing in mind your previous comments, but any guidance would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

Hi! What is the point of an anodyne article about a journalist who would not be very notable at all if it weren't for the salient fact that he works and writes constantly in support of the Russian government and against Western governments and journalists (whom he calls the 'commentariat'). We don't need outside sources for this -- we only need to read the man's own website. Surely this is good enough. What do you mean in this case when you write 'Blogs are not reliable sources'? It is the man's own words we are talking about. Of course Wikipedia must not say that his activities are in any way bad, but it ought to be able to mention them. APW —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pawebster (talkcontribs) 23:00, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

It should only be included if it is published in reliable sources, or if he has mentioned it himself. I can't see it anywhere on his blog, if it is there you could cite it, mentioning which post it is in. If this is just a perception based on reading it, it is original research. —Snigbrook 23:11, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey there, I saw your username under the history of the edit page of the above article. I was just wondering if you could maybe check it out for me, considering you've revised bits & pieces over there, because I've submitted in new information in the discussion page I thought is worth noting on. Thanks. =] Kain tl (talk) 13:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

It's not a subject I know much about, I only edited the article to undo edits by a user who was adding dubious information and vandalism to various articles. You may need to find more references, as I don't think those you suggested on the talk page are reliable sources. —Snigbrook 18:14, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Gareth Kirkham

I notice you are one of the main players in having the Gareth Kirkham article removed. I can assure you that all the content of the article was true. I am astounded that a google search did not show any results given his notoreity and controversialism. I did a yahoo search and found many hits. He is not on the Cornish Pirates website as he has only recently joined the club. The club website has simply not been updated recently. I will also be returning the article to its former state.

Regards

Dogtitmania (talk) 00:31, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Any content on Wikipedia should be verifiable. I had looked on Google and on the clubs' websites and could not find sources to verify anything mentioned in the article, so I nominated it for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gareth Kirkham. The references currently in the article are not specific enough to verify (see Wikipedia:Citing sources). —Snigbrook 00:43, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Waverton, Cumbria

I am curious as to why Woodrow, Cumbria should redirect to Waverton, Cumbria. Kingturtle (talk) 01:07, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

It appeared as a red link in the box above "recent changes", and when I looked for information about it, I found it was a small hamlet with probably fewer than ten houses. It's probably not notable enough for a separate article so I redirected it to the parish it is in, as suggested by the guidelines at WP:UKCITIES, and added a sentence to Waverton, Cumbria mentioning Woodrow and other hamlets. —Snigbrook 01:18, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Wikipedia pages belong to it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted, without discussion, in accordance with Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding [[Category:550s BC disestablishments]] to articles/categories that belong in it.

I blanked the category page. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of blanking and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to revert the blanking if you wish. However, doing so will not prevent deletion if the category remains empty.

If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with {{db-author}}.

212.230.220.215 (talk) 16:59, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[[2]]

I requested a history merge, which has now been done (although the article is now likely to be deleted). It looks like you don't have enough edits to move pages, 10 edits are needed to be autoconfirmed and you only have 8 (unless there are any deleted edits) on the English Wikipedia. I noticed you are making edits (on my talk page and the AfD) logged out, it is a good idea to ensure you are logged in, to allow your contributions to be all in one place, also editing logged out could be seen as sock puppetry. —Snigbrook 18:48, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry, perhaps I was a little hasty with the speedy tag. It looked like vandalism at first glance, seeing as it was one or two lines and seemed like gibberish.Thank you for the correction!FingersOnRoids (talk) 22:39, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I was wondering if you'd retract the AFD on Robbie Kay. In addition to the comments I made at AFD and the expansion of the article, I'd like you to consider the effort the director went through to cast him (makes no sense if it was a minor role). Also, if you'd be willing to trust my personal original research: I decided to rent Fugitive Pieces because it sounded good. I've seen the first 50 minutes of the film and it focuses almost entirely on Jakob's childhood. - Mgm|(talk) 08:25, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

It does exist; although whether the source is useful/reliable enough is another thing entirely. --Litherlandsand (talk) 12:10, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm assuming that "Bracelet Hall" is the same place as "Bracelet". If this is correct, it appears to be only a farm and is probably not notable enough for a separate article, if it is a different place there is not enough information to identify it. According to WP:UKCITIES, if there is no more than a couple of paragraphs that could be said about the hamlet it may be best practice to merge it to an article about the parish it is in (Bracelet Hall is in Broughton West). —Snigbrook 13:06, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Merging of Ian Hill into Judas Priest

Just because people didn't provide sources for their material, it means you shall require citations, not just erasing the page. Do you want a birth certificate for everyone who has his/her birthdate in Wikipedia for an instance? And if you don't know what's finger or pick playing, go check the videos on youtube and stop being nosy in things you know zero about. If you don't believe it was his sister who found Halford go write her a mail. By the way, what's a reliable source? some article that one finds in the net written by someone that as well just happens to know facts I do? Next thing you know I gotta have some obscure journalist making an article in a tabloid so that I can cite him to prove that I know the birthdate of my father - it's called Jimboism, or the paradox of second-hand information being more reliable than first-hand. Typical hypocrisy and pseudo-sobriety promoted by the (once porno promoter) father of Wikipedia and his minions who, like him, know nothing about Encyclopedic procedures and correct journalism. Anyway, you know something? you blindly erased the article from Wikipedia because you had nothing else to do. Shinebox waiting for you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.129.74.238 (talk) 02:56, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

The content is still there in the page's history. My decision to redirect was based on guidelines and policy (WP:MUSIC and WP:V), but it can be reverted, as consensus has not been established. However, the article was tagged as unreferenced more than two years ago, and the problem has not been resolved (and if references are found, I would have no problem with the article). Because anyone can edit the article and change the information, references can be more important than accurate information. —Snigbrook 15:41, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

The person with the same IP address is persistently vandalizing this entry:

Is it possible to block his IP address. He has been vandalizing the article persistently for the past several months. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.24.255.85 (talk) 07:59, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

The user isn't editing from one IP address, this is the problem. I have requested semi-protection of the article but it was declined by an administrator (I will probably make another request if the vandalism continues), and the IP range has a few constructive edits, not just vandalism so unless the vandalism increases is unlikely to be blocked. —Snigbrook 12:56, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up earlier, both accounts are history. In addition, I have granted you the rollback button, the fastest way of undoing vandalism. Don't use it if you are less than 100% sure an edit is vandalism, otherwise keep up the good work! Best, WilliamH (talk) 09:25, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Do you want me to scan and upload the pupils' examination certificates as a reference?Anon8174 (talk) 15:32, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

What is needed is verification that there has been controversy and anger, and that it is a notable enough incident to be mentioned in the article, so certificates wouldn't be relevant (also they could be a violation of the Biographies of living persons policy or a copyright violation). If the controversy has had no coverage in reliable published sources I don't think it should be included. —Snigbrook 19:20, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Burnt Face Man

I'd rather not, the whole reason I created it was I felt at the time that BFM was notable and deserved an article, as there were clearly droves of people who wanted to read about it. The number of random IP addresses that keep landing on it kind of proves that point. At the same time, I haven't added to it for thousands of years because, considering that nobody was going to listen to the notability arguments anyway, it was a little pointless editing it! So yes, unless a real article is created, I do want to keep the page, it is on my watchlist and I haven't noticed much vandalism, many of the visitors actually add something to it. Regards, Tom walker (talk) 09:37, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Copies of deleted content shouldn't be kept indefinitely in user space (see Wikipedia:User page#Copies of other pages) and user pages shouldn't be used to substitute for articles on non-notable subjects (see WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not your web host), so unless it is likely to become a valid article it will probably be nominated for deletion. —Snigbrook 16:05, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Gillian Hiscott

I noticed you took part in a deletion debate upon me,I feel the deletion was unjustified. I am a playwright, with several classic adaptations and plays published by Cressrelles and Jasper Publishing, used by professional companies and neither of the these publishing companies are connected to me nor vanity publishers. Also my novel has been in the Waterstones bestelling list for it’s category, still there (genre WW2). I don’t believe people are thoroughly checking information before deleting. The so called Ghits mention that most of mine are Wikis is incorrect, if anyone cares to count. On the first only 2 out of the 10 are wikis, and on the second only 1. I am not very skilled at editing, and don't know what you mean by it being unreferenced. (Gillhiscott (talk) 14:06, 22 March 2009 (UTC))

See Wikipedia:Citing sources about references, they are needed so the content can be verified. I looked on Google and agree that most of the top results are not wikis, but the amount of coverage there isn't substantial and unless reliable sources are cited (whether available online or not) the article doesn't meet the guidelines at WP:BIO. —Snigbrook 14:25, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

It isn't possible to protect it so that only you can edit it (it could be restricted to administrators, but then you wouldn't be able to edit it; this isn't usually done). I've requested semi-protection which will prevent edits by new accounts and unregistered users. —Snigbrook 21:04, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism to William Vandry page

Snigbrook, thank you for reverting the vandalism on William Vandry's page. The website blindtruth references indicates nothing more than the fact that Vandry won the medals he claims. I constantly have to monitor the page to undo his childish revisions. Is there anyway the page can be locked indefinately to exclude the vandalism by Blindtruth?

dfrankiejr151.151.21.101 (talk) 20:22, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I don't think it will be locked (there isn't enough disruption, also it's only one user) but I will warn the user. —Snigbrook 20:27, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

The posts that I have made on William Vandry have two sources, one from the Pan Am tournament that shows that the gold medal came from an empty division, and the silver medals came from a division that had one person in them. The claims of being a winner and a champion are false, as no match was won, the medals came by losing and receiving a medal by default.

The second source is the words of William Vandry himself, talking about his losses. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blindtruth (talkcontribs) 22:06, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

You mention "claims of being a winner and a champion are false", I don't think that's an appropriate comment to include in the article, there is nothing "false" about it. —Snigbrook 22:36, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I would like to include the definition of won...Adj. 1. won - not subject to defeat; "with that move it's a won game" As you see by the definition it means NOT the subject of defeat, and since he WAS defeated in all of his matches, my claims and word choice is valid and truthful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blindtruth (talkcontribs) 23:48, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

"Won" in this context refers to medals/competitions, not to matches. —Snigbrook 23:53, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

False, to "win" a medal you must "win" a match, this is a chain of events not an isolated happening. Fact is what I wrote was, "despite Vandrys claim of being a champion he has never won a Pmatch to attain a medal", so please be specific and show me where I have misrepresented my claim. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blindtruth (talkcontribs) 00:04, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Good edit

For restoring toxie hall page to proper ver, administrator antandrus reverted facts on birth year and erased death year and so much more, he simply reverted back to 1930, that's problem with administrators, revert, but they revert back to incorrect versions, lol~! http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Toxey_Hall&action=history —Preceding unsigned comment added by Unitwiki (talkcontribs) 00:04, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

If you don't cite sources, it makes it more difficult to determine whether an edit is constructive, and edits are more likely to be reverted. It's only because the previous version had no reference for the year that I decided to look for a source. Also personal attacks are inappropriate, so I've edited your comment. —Snigbrook 00:17, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
I only make personal attacks against very few people here who make tons of problems for others, i love your edit, as boxing historian i know a lot on toxie hall n many others, so giving year and death can easily be checked as you did, you simply cant give source for basic things such as... do mammals need air to breath, duh! The problem with wikipedia is so many administrators have way too much power can do anything they like & such things always have adverse effects sooner or later!

Date in templates

Thank you the new month crept up on me. Rich Farmbrough, 02:27 2 April 2009 (UTC).

I think a biographical article should include controversies if they are important enough, but the one mentioned in the article doesn't appear to be. What I meant by "lasting coverage" was whether there was ongoing criticism or controversy, also for example, whether it was expected to have any effect on voters in the elections. Also, the article should be written from a neutral point of view, preferably in proportion to the amount of positive and negative coverage – before I edited the article, it looked like it had been turned into a promotional article for a rival candidate in the election. —Snigbrook 21:46, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Regarding the issue of O'Connor publishing The Berwyn Banner, at city expense, without council approval. That issue has been raised in the campaign by at least two of his opponents in this election. You had said that campaign site's cannot be used as a source in the article, so the only availabe source would be the newspaper article from 2007. As you appear to be from the United Kingdom I wouldn't expect you to know what is an issue in the campaign in a mayoral race in suburban Chicago. --BerwynTalker (talk) 22:02, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

I've replied on your talk page. —Snigbrook 22:10, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Patrol list

Just a note that I updated a link on your patrol list: [3]. --bainer (talk) 13:07, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for updating it, you've reminded me to check as it looks like I've missed a few page moves recently. —Snigbrook 13:26, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Stagecoach in Preston

I don't think that you've taken my addition about the replacement of some of the buses in the correct way. Preston Bus had replaced most of the old buses before Stagecoach, but they still did have 8 Atlanteans left, more Olympians, 9 Lynxes and 6 Metroriders. Yes, that is the number that were left before the purchase of Stagecoach. BUT, the there are no Atlanteans left anymore. There are less Olympians - they have only 2 left that are older than J Reg, and they are only used on School Services. There's only 1 Lynx left, and 3 Metroriders, that too they are considering selling those. I would like to take your permission to change it so it does also state your part, but also states that ever since Stagecoach took over there are even less. I think that would be the best idea, and make information more accurate. Yours faithfully (MJLRGS (talk) 19:39, 4 April 2009 (UTC))

I don't know exactly what was sold when, although I've seen a fleet list from before Stagecoach with only 3 Lynxes and no Atlanteans, maybe some buses withdrawn from service had not been sold. Another thing I'm not sure of (maybe you know more about this) is whether the "Preston Citi" Solos were transferred to Preston Bus, as the two I've seen since I last edited the article had the "Ribble Motor Services" name and address on the side, unfortunately the timetables are unclear on who operates the services as the Stagecoach website only mentions "Stagecoach North West" and the Lancashire County Council website only mentions "Stagecoach in Lancashire", not "Preston Bus" or "Stagecoach in Preston". The problem here is what can be verified by sources and what is original research. —Snigbrook 23:27, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, you are right. The Atlanteans weren't sold yet, but were put out of use. I got the information about them being Preston Citi buses from http://stagecoachnorthwest.fotopic.net, as in the pictures of Optare Solos, it states location and shows which service and whether it is Network Chorley, Preston Citi/Network Ribble Valley, Stagecoach in Lancaster or The Villager networks. It also makes sure that it states whether the same bus was repeated by using numbers. (MJLRGS (talk) 10:50, 5 April 2009 (UTC))

LRGS

I was just wondering how much you know about it. Did you go there? I did. I was also wondering about your knowledge of Preston Bus, I know because I live on a road which has 4 Preston Bus/Stagecoach services. (MJLRGS (talk) 18:02, 5 April 2009 (UTC))

about LRGS - no I didn't go there, I don't really know anything about it - my only edits to the article were to disambiguate a link and revert vandalism or dubious edits, and at one time the article was on my watchlist (the link on User:Snigbrook/Sandbox 3 is from when I removed some old entries from my watchlist).
about Preston Bus: I am often in the city centre as I work in a shop there, so I see quite a few buses, other information is from the internet. —Snigbrook 22:16, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your message regarding page blanking and deletion templates. I know just enough about page deletion to know I need to learn more. For that reason I make it my practice not to revert edits on articles that have only one author or are templated for deletion. Today I have undone some blanking edits inquiring in my summary for some clue from the users, and even contacted one user on their talk page to inquire about blanking sections. I may have not abided by my own rules in this instance, but it was completely unintentional. I do not remember seeing the "one author" warning from HG or a deletion template on the article before I reverted this user's edit. I don't really understand that content would be removed without explanation for a valid reason. The universe is filled with things I don't understand, so I will depend on your experience in this matter. Please message me any time you have advice or suggestions. Vandry Edit War

After you settled the dispute with one poster another has come in to erase all of your edits. I have posted a couple of times with citations, only to be quickly removed. I also removed unverifiable information. Could we have a possible IP block or lock on the last edit that you made.

Cheers, and thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blindtruth (talkcontribs) 01:45, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

thank you & map co-ords Oxmoor Copse

I just remembered that I hadn't categorised Oxmoor Copse and went to do it. You'd beaten me to it. Thank you. Do you know how to put in the co-ordinates? I put it there at the bottom of the text but I didn't do it properly. regards SuzanneKn (talk) 14:13, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
