Said link provides an appropriate resource for residents of those areas, namely non-profit programs.
It is not commercial or inappropriate to those areas.JColgan

:Please read WP:EL. Wikipedia is not a link farm. Your proposed standard— all resources appropriate to residents of an area— would allow hundreds of external links in any article covering a population center. Please don't start making up your own standards.

::You will notice, for instance, links to a country club that is not in the municipality listed. Both DCYI and HCI links provide information on programs and events in those communities, without requiring a link to each individual group - Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Explorers, Venturing, "cadet" programs (Sea Cadets, Civil Air Patrol, etc.), clubs, after-school programs, etc. A standard of a portal to that information reduces the need for such links and provides relevent information about and to those communities.JColgan

:::The portal notion would be fine, if there was any need for links to community service. There isn't. And the existance of the link to the golf club link means nothing-- it too should and will be removed. If one bad link deserves another, we're in big trouble. -- Mwanner | Talk 16:29, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

::::Except they are the living, breathing piece of the community - beyond stats on population and race. They include the churches, schools, and other establishments that actually make up those communities.JColgan

:::::That's fine-- so write about them, but don't link to them. There's a major difference. The only place a link to these orgs belongs is the article about the orgs. See WP:EL-- Mwanner | Talk 16:46, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

::::::I thought writing about, say, a major regular community event or a major organization would be more along the lines of advertising than linking. Am I wrong? Both organizations are big parts of the communities and are offically recognized by their governments, but culturally, this county has more of a habit of allowing NPOs and NGOs to do things rather than creating governmental offices. I would appreciate your insight.JColgan

:::::::You have already written an article on the Delaware County Youth Initiative which no one is complaining about, and I can see no reason why we couldn't have an article on the Healthy Communities Initiative and/or Rose Tree Media, if they are sufficiently notable to deserve articles. We have hundreds (thousands?) of articles on commercial establishments, from Avon to Zipcar. The only restrictions are that they be sufficiently notable, and that the article be npov and encyclopedic. And (as per WP:EL), articles may contain an external link to their official website(s).
:::::::Events, too, though the notability standard might be more difficult to reach with an event article. But see Terry Fox Run as an example. -- Mwanner | Talk 17:25, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

::::::::Thank you for that. When I get the time, I am planning to do an article on the Healthy Communities Initiative at the national level. Since, for instance, HCI is integrated with the school district/municipalities, would it be appropriate to have a section in one of those articles (perhaps instead of an independent article?JColgan
