About 250–300 years ago, Yasin Makki, who came from Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to spread Islam, started living in the hilly area of [[Madarsha Union|Madarsha]] in Satkania Upazila, Chittagong. From then on the area became known as Mokkarbari.<ref name="a" />

The arena is either a circular or square shape, measuring at least fourteen to twenty feet across. Rather than using modern mats, Boli wrestlers train and compete on dirt floors.
