:Agreed. I think it was probably added on the assumption that they formed the group specially for BGT but assumptions are wrong and it should be removed until there's a reliable source for it. AnemoneProjectors 16:45, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Group and individuals
The group is obviously significant. However, the group also contains notable individuals who are champions in the 'regular' sport, as well as being members of Spelbound. I've linked those I can spot, and created articles for two or three of them. The others are redlinked as a prompt for others to create well referenced articles, even as stubs, for these athletes who compete and win honours at international level.

Please both improve the articles that are already there, and create those that are not yet present. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 12:39, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Spelbound

[edit]

Note that Spelthorne is the local authority (Borough), the group are based in Staines, Ashford and Heathrow (part of which is in Spelthorne).

Clarify which Adam is deputy manager of Spelthorne Leisure Centre.

More references and details to be added shortly.

Have put Spelbound and some other finalists in Series 4 template, get rid of Cheeky girls, etc. from list!

Vandal

[edit]

There's a vandal somewhere reverting edits aimlessly and deleting genuine ones. What's the process for getting him/her locked out for editing? ChrisUK (talk) 16:40, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've tried to restore a baseline version - apologies if i've accidently removed some genuine edits. I suggest we try and stabilise first, get rid of the vandal and then try and re-edit the article properly.ChrisUK (talk) 16:44, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looks to me there is more than one vandal and, unless things get worse, what you have been doing is all that can be done. Thincat (talk) 17:09, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Borough of Spelthorne

[edit]

You should make reference to the origin of the name in the Borough of Spelthorne. This is where the name originates and where the group had a lot of support from local people and from Spelthorne Leisure Centre. I also politely added some early references to prevent the article being deleted. I won't add anything more to this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by WilberforceHope (talkcontribs) 17:40, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done There was a vandal about earlier this afternoon which made it very difficult to track edits and changes. Things seemed to have settled down now. The article now refers to how the group got it's name and there is a wiki link to the borough of spelthorne.ChrisUK (talk) 17:47, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Heathrow club

[edit]

A reference to heathrow gymnast club has been added without citation - this is not part of the spelthorne website, so where does this information come from? I have added a needcite tag until one is provided. ChrisUK (talk) 19:20, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Heathrow (for which I added a reference) now has no mention and the word "former" was added to their Spelthorne membership without reference. The references still there for Spelthorne membership do not say they are no longer members. I have removed "former". There is certainly reference to training at Heathrow (for example the one removed). The status of the group itself and that of its individual members may well be different matters adding to uncertainty. I do not myself know the situation so I am not going to press for any particular position but I imagine this is of importance to the two gymnastics clubs involved. Thincat (talk) 10:14, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I must admit I'm confused as well. I've got no idea what the story is behind the two clubs, nor which one they were or are a current/former member of. However, since the reference to Heathrow was removed by someone the paragraph about the group's name no longer makes sense since it talks about the former club (in which case the previous sentence should read "They were members of".
Clearly some-one is editting who knows what the actual situation is. Perhaps they could leave a comment on this page as to what is going on between the two clubs.ChrisUK (talk) 13:23, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Let me clear up the matter. I am a gymnast at the club.

Spelbound was formed at Spelthorne Gymnastics Club in Ashford (which incidentally is in Middlesex, not Surrey). The group was put together late in 2009 specifically for Britain’s Got Talent. The routine O Fortuna (Carmina Burana) had been choreographed many years before by Spelthorne Gymnastics Club and was revived for the TV show. Spelbound premiered at the Club’s Christmas Displays in December 2009.

After the huge success of the live semi-final of BGT, the Head Coach Neil Griffiths resigned from Spelthorne Gymnastics Club with immediate effect and went to Heathrow Gymnastics Club, taking with him the 3 senior coaches, dance teacher and choreographer, and leaving the 60-plus elite gymnasts no alternative but to follow him to Heathrow. This happened on 3rd May 2010.

So yes, Spelbound now train at Heathrow Gymnastics Club. Many former Spelthorne gymnasts aren’t happy with this but have no choice. On Spelthorne Gymnastic Club’s website they now refer to themselves as the “originators of Spelbound”. There is a banner on the front page of Heathrow Gymnastics Club’s website saying “home to Spelbound”. This is the only evidence I can provide as much has been swept under the carpet. Aside from the front page, Heathrow’s acrobatics section of the website is woefully out of date.

Spelbound do indeed have deep connections with the Borough of Spelthorne. However the open top bus tour of the borough and meeting with the Mayor of Spelthorne in June was seen by some as in rather poor taste as Spelbound resided in the London Borough of Hounslow at that point.

Spelthorne Gymnastics Club are now rebuilding their elite section.

I have hopefully explained the confusion and why vandals (not me) have been updating Wikipedia. I could go on, but have tried to keep this message factual and without prejudice. Spelbound are indeed “former members” of Spelthorne Gymnastics Club. You can use as little or as much of this information as you wish, or message me on this site if you need further clarification.

Another point I can address is that the deputy manager of Spelthorne Leisure Centre is Adam Buckingham. Legggs11 (talk) 22:46, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Which club?

[edit]

The name "Spelbound" is supposed to refer to Spelthorne but this article makes no sense. It's says they train with Spelthorne Gymnastics (based in Splethorne) but then says it's due to their former club. How can it be their old club and the one they train with. Before it was claimed they trained at Heathrow so a clean-up is required.

They put up a huge banner outside Spelthorne Leisure Centre, Staines requesting everyone voted for Adam, Deputy Manager and flyers on every door. So they must have a strong connection with Staines and indeed Borough of Splelthorne, not just a 'former club'. The article should clarify this and maybe the local Informer or Staines and Egham News will mention it in their next edition?WilberforceHope (talk) 18:49, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I think it was probably added on the assumption that they formed the group specially for BGT but assumptions are wrong and it should be removed until there's a reliable source for it. AnemoneProjectors 16:45, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
