There is nothing in the text above that grabs an average reader (who likely won't know anything about Dhaka, let alone the Shahbag neighborhood). The article ''has'' to make the transition from lists to narrative. One way to do this would be to temporarily replace a name, for example, "Dhaka University," by ''text'' that says something interesting about the name. For example, "Since the early 19th century, the Shahbag intersection, has been the hub of intellectual life in the city. Today, it home to a technology park ..." Obviously I'm making this up, but you get the idea. The article needs a lot of work. =Shopping= is too ''touristy'' and needs to go. The article needs some more content. And I saw a glaring error on the page. The latitude is shown as 30 °N and as far as my knowledge of Bangladesh goes, that's too high! Can you structure the article roughly according to [[Waterfall Gully, South Australia]]. Subsections and galleried should be eliminated. For the coordinates, try using google earth. Hello... I have popped in on the article to see if I could get some copyediting done, but every time I do there's an {{tl|inuse}} tag on it so I left it alone. My edits tend to change a lot of minor details and when you get an edit conflict it's very hard to merge the two, so I often end up just starting over (which is a waste of time). You seem to have a nice team of copyeditors there, if I happen to be around when it's quieted down I'll see what I can do :) -- [[User:Editor at Large|<font color="#3A66A7" face="Palatino">Editor at Large</font>]] • [[User talk:Editor at Large|<small><font color="#325C74">talk</font></small>]] 00:54, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello Aditya, I had placed the inuse template on [[Language Movement]] because I wanted to change the date format in the wikilinked dates from <nowiki>[[February 21|21 February]]</nowiki> to <nowiki>[[21 February]]</nowiki>. This way, individual users can set their own preference for DD/MM or MM/DD format. I was unsure whether or not to change dates in the references, so I chose not to until I hear from other people. I was trying to make the changes in the article text but I got an edit conflict with you. I don't want to simply undo your changes, so when you can, would you please consider making the date changes that I proposed? Thanks. --[[User:Kyoko|<font face="arial" color="#8652b9">''Kyok''</font>]][[User talk:Kyoko|<font face="arial" color="#BA55D3">''o''</font>]] 14:00, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I looked at the sentence you pointed out in [[Bengali Language Movement]], and it doesn't make sense to me. My understanding is that prisoners who don't post bail are kept in prison, not freed. Perhaps there is something missing in the sentence about public outcry or political pressure or something. --[[User:Kyoko|<font face="arial" color="#8652b9">''Kyok''</font>]][[User talk:Kyoko|<font face="arial" color="#BA55D3">''o''</font>]] 21:26, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

::Hello, thanks for thinking about me, and thanks for the compliments. I will ''try'' to see what I can do, but I won't be able to work on it every day due to other obligations. Right now, to my eyes, the most obvious thing that needs fixing is the too-wordy language. Hello Aditya, congratulations on getting [[Biman Bangladesh Airlines]] promoted to FA status. I'm glad to have helped a tiny bit. Sorry I wasn't able to do more for the article, but I've been preoccupied with other matters. Oh well. I'm glad that the article was promoted, you should be proud of your (and others') hard work! --[[User:Kyoko|<span style="font-family:arial; color:#8652b9;">''Kyok''</span>]][[User talk:Kyoko|<span style="font-family:arial; color:#BA55D3;">''o''</span>]] 14:00, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Aditya,

Hope you are well. Been a while since I did any real stuff here on WP due to other commitments but noticed that [[Biman Bangladesh Airlines]] is scheduled for the mainpage on Sunday, 28th September. It's been a while since it became FA and there have been major changes to the organisation since then. I'll try and spare some time to brush it up a bit. Please take a look and keep an eye during its mainpage debut. Thanks. → [[User:AA|AA]] ([[User talk:AA|talk]]) — 11:19, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

I have learned about Bangladesh and its political system, more or less like India. Can u explain a bit the differences with Indian context. If u check the [[Darjeeling]], [[Kalimpong]], [[Gangtok]] articles (they all are FA) u will be able to see that the Media section is almost the same. Got your message, Aditya. Wow, do you not ever sleep? FAC already??? Good for you! I wish you the best with it. To list an article for copyediting, simply go to the [[WP:LOCE/R|requests page]] for the league. Before you list it, make sure it meets the [[WP:LOCE/C|request criteria]], which BTW, I think this does. I would wait until it's a FAC "officially" so you can use the "FAC" in the template to get proper attention. I'll be watching for it over there. Note, though, that I won't be copyediting it myself. After reading that article a bazillion times, I don't think I could objectively copyedit anything else (like proofreading your own writing-nearly impossible to catch things that others will see easily). Good luck! Hi Aditya! Another user has removed the tag, and without checking the reliability of the sources I've looked through the refs section and made a few consistency changes as well as fixing some formatting errors. Yes I find her very attractive too. I've had a quick glance and off hand it looks like it needs a good deal of work to become a GA. Some of the more controversial statements will need referencing in places, and some of the wording is clumsy in places and doesn't flow -hence it needs a thorough copy edit. It also looks like in places there are still a few peacock words and POV issues which need to be addressed. I'll read more into it later [[User:Blofeld of SPECTRE| <span style="border:1px solid blue;padding:1px;"> <span style="color:#fef;background:black;">'''''♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦'''''</span></span>]] [[User talk:Blofeld of SPECTRE| <span style="font-size:x-small; color:Black;">'''$1,000,000?'''</span> ]] 14:52, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

I've looked over it its improved a lot since I last looked and it; I've made some changes including a new image. I think it needs a good bit of copy editing to be honest. == Sex symbol ==
Avoid the phrase if your only sources are random articles from the cinema section of regional papers, please. The phrase means something specific with sociological connotations, and in other film articles is placed only with care. Remember that some Indian papers tend to use phrases without that much care; for example, I can google pretty much every major female Bollywood star and discover dozens of references calling them a sex symbol. That basically renders it meaningless and unencyclopaedic based on that quality ref.

I took a close look at the article and made several minor copy edits. The text seems to flow well enough, although there are many run-on sentences. This is due to the small 'edit war' going on, with editors trying to cram a lot of information into a single 'referenced' sentence. I untangled some of those. You [[User talk:Dcljr#Help: Works of Jayne Mansfield|asked for help]] with the tables in the article [[Works of Jayne Mansfield]]. I'm afraid I don't have any great ideas beyond simply suggesting that you look through similar tables found through [[:Category:Filmographies]] and see how the best looking tables do things. (Of course, the tables will look different on different browsers, with different font sizes, different screen/window sizes, etc. For me, your tables didn't seem much different than the ones I saw in a few arbitrarily selected articles from that category — well, maybe apart from the number of columns of information being squeezed into them, as you mentioned. [g]) If there are only a few "notes" in a table, you might try replacing that column with footnotes via the templates {{tl|note}} and {{tl|ref}}. Whatever you do, don't try fancy stuff like "colspan" or "rowspan", since AFAIK that can mess up sorting on "sortable" tables. You may want to look at [[Template:Cite book]], which gives a better description of how to cite books. They are not cited with a weblink they are usually cited then added to the notes section. Dear Aditya Kabir, please explain your revert of my edit on the Bikini article. My goal was to copyedit the section to reduce the detail not directly linked with Bikini. :Generally the earliest finds of ''anything'' which has a ''old enough'' story to tell does it in as much details as possible in the early part, and gradually become more constrained. That's how encyclopedias, academic journals, magazines and newspapers go in style of writing. The article is very much in under construction, and it would be greatly beneficial if we stop removing stuff, rather than strengthening the weak spots. 1. Please stop adding empty sections to an article. The "Further Versions" section which says nothing more than "There are other versions that are necessarily not regarded as thongs" is completely pointless. You've added it twice now.

2. A dance belt is specifically a type of men's dancewear. That is why that section was under the "Men's Thongs" heading. You have twice now moved it below another section specifically addressing a style of WOMEN'S thongs.

3. Do not remove an image simply because you don't like it. The image "mensthong.jpg" clearly illustrates the vertical seam often found in thongs specifically cut for men. It is completely relevant to the article. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned]] comment added by [[Special:Contributions/158.147.57.213|158.147.57.213]] ([[User talk:158.147.57.213|talk]]) 20:04, 29 September 2009 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

==[[Whale tail]]==
You restored all the irrelevant material about "Other whale tails", which is disappointing to see. Wikipedia articles are about single topics (in this case a type of visible underwear), not topics that happen to share a name. That is ''not'' an article on the phrase "whale tail". Surely you understand this?

I merged the material on the spoiler to [[Spoiler (automotive)#Whale tail]], and added entries to [[:wiktionary:whale tail]] and [[:wiktionary:whale's tail]] (where they could be supported). I've restored the material about the car spoiler to the [[Spoiler (automotive)]] article - please don't revert. Removing it from that article and adding it back to an article on visible underwear was a poor editing decision, because the content is about spoilers, not visible underwear. The cobbled together section remaining on various obscure uses of the term "whale tail" that uses some fairly unreliable sources definitely detracts from this article, and I don't see why you're defending its inclusion. Shahbag

Re: Shahbag

I think having someone like Rama's Arrow or Nichalp take a look may be a good idea before calling for an FAC. By the way, have you fixed your Bangla script problems? --Ragib 16:52, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Aditya, I took a very quick look at the article. Will take a more in-depth look later. Off the top of my head, here are some thoughts. First, the pictures are great; second, there are definitely enough topics there; third, the article needs narrative. The third point, for me, is the most important. For example, the educations section reads:

There is nothing in the text above that grabs an average reader (who likely won't know anything about Dhaka, let alone the Shahbag neighborhood). The article has to make the transition from lists to narrative. One way to do this would be to temporarily replace a name, for example, "Dhaka University," by text that says something interesting about the name. For example, "Since the early 19th century, the Shahbag intersection, has been the hub of intellectual life in the city. Today, it home to a technology park ..." Obviously I'm making this up, but you get the idea. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 03:58, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:Shahbag

The article needs a lot of work. =Shopping= is too touristy and needs to go. The article needs some more content. And I saw a glaring error on the page. The latitude is shown as 30 °N and as far as my knowledge of Bangladesh goes, that's too high! =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:52, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:

Can you structure the article roughly according to Waterfall Gully, South Australia. Subsections and galleried should be eliminated. For the coordinates, try using google earth. =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:07, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Shahbag

Extremely sorry for the delay in replying. I am not really the right person to improve an article such as Shahbag. However, I have given it a look. The lead-in is not impressive. Earlier also I had noted that some photographs of great political events at Ramna would greatly enhance the value of the article. I have a feeling that it should go through FA as it is. Re:Shahbag

Hi Aditya - I'm sorry for not having replied on this for a while. I've taken the liberty to reorganize the article and pictures and I will proceed to copyedit the text. I'm optimistic that you can go for a FAC in 1-2 days. Rama's arrow 21:56, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey - I just noticed that you have a fair use image (the MuktiBahini logo) on your userpage. You'll have to remove it as per Wikipedia:Fair use. Rama's arrow 22:17, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Definitely start a peer review. A GA nom will be a waste of energy as the FAC is so near. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rama's Arrow (talkcontribs) 22:18, 15 March 2007 (UTC).

Hello there! I've left several comments on Talk:Shahbag. Hope this is helpful! Best, MarkBuckles (talk) 00:17, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:Shahbag

Looks, better. I'd prefer you open a peer review so that I can log in my comments there. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:20, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

References for Shahbaug and Education in B'desh

Hi Aditya - for the "References" section, you need to add more details (date of publication, publisher, isbn/asin) - if this is just a "Further reading" type section (as there aren't any book citations), I suggest you may want to remove it all together. I'll report on the article a little later, when I've finished copyediting it. For Education in Bangladesh, I suggest you start by writing fresh lead paragraphs, which will act as an outline/format to guide you in writing the other parts of the article. Also, I suggest you create 1-2 templates listing the notable schools/colleges/universities of Bangladesh - something like {{Indian Institute Of Technology}}. Cheers, Rama's arrow 17:37, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi - please wikify all the red links by creating stubs. Rama's arrow 18:04, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Hahahaha - your image arrangement was appeared screwed up on my explorer page! I guess we'll have to ask a 3rd person to referee this!

Yes, the "Festivals" subsection is unnecessary, given that festivals are linked to religion and cultural life itself. The "Culture" section itself is meant to be broad enough to include everything - I would say it would be logical to have a separate "Festivals" section if the article was about the culture of Shahbag, or demographics of Shahbag.

There were a bunch of people mentioned in the article - now if they were notable enough to mention, the readers need to know who they were. Notable Bangladeshi institutions require separate articles - those that are not notable, why mention them in the first place? If worth mentioning, more data is needed on the entity either within the article - but to keep the article concise, fork articles are necessary. If you term something as the "Christian New Year," you should link it to the relevant page so that no reader is confused by the sudden use of "Christian" for what is quite secular - also, as you talk about the reorganized B'deshi calendar, again, the reader needs to have more data on what ur talking about. You can create an article on Boli Khela, the Bengali form of wrestling - Pehlwani is not merely the Punjabi name for wrestling. You can obviously link Basanta Utsav directly to the Basant article.

I just wanted to know if all those references were relevant - there were many titles that didn't seem to be more than a recommended "further reading" list. No, you do not need to add citations from each source and you can reinsert the refs I removed. Try to add as much information as possible about each book's publication details. It is OK if you can't get isbn, although I think most books have some form of an ID. One more thing - you use the {{cite news}}, which is good. Please convert the book citations to {{cite book}} and weblink citations to {{cite web}}.

Except for the issue adding information on the reference books and about half of the red links, most of these points are not critical and entirely up to your judgment. Check with Ragib or Dwaipayan about these points. Once you deal with these points one way or another, my opinion is that this article is ready for FAC. Rama's arrow 20:45, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Cheers, Rama's arrow 20:45, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Shahbag

Well, I am not sure if it is ready for FAC. My doubt is whether it is comprehensive. Do you think all aspects have been covered? If you think so, just go for the FAC. Because it is only in the FAC that the article will be reviewed properly and will get further suggestions. Go for it, even if it fails, there will be constructive suggestions. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:03, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Posting again

Sorry, I've been quite busy these days ... so my visits to wikipedia has been limited to minor edits, rvv etc. I will look into the Shahbag page, and possibly will add some stuff too. You are doing a good work ... I believe the Shahbag article will be ready for FAC within a day or two. Thanks. --Ragib 06:23, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:Shahbag

Sorry, Aditya, I got caught up in other stuff. I will take a look at the article later today. Thanks. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 17:36, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

re: Shahbag

Hi. I was wondering how you decided to ask me to help peer review the article? Am I on some list somewhere that I should know about? Some user category? You only needed to ask once, though, so I removed the doubled request. Please let me know, thanks. For your information, I've never tried peer reviewing an article, and am not too interested in it, especially an article that I know absolutely nothing about. Also, I'm not very amenable to requests that seem totally random and impersonal (they seem like spam). Thanks, and have a nice day! --Storkk 09:02, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

shahbag

Try Harlem, which is a GA. However, you can create new ground by organizing it differently, that is totally fine as long as it is cohesive. Good luck,--ppm 18:03, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the headings and Table of contents look a bit odd now, with single subsections dangling inside section 2 and 4. Renaming, merging content with the section without subsection heading can be done here. --Ragib 04:05, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I was referring to the layout you tried out for Shahbag, but which you have reverted here. I was referring to the subsections under section 2 and 4. The current TOC looks fine. The article can go to FAC as early as Sunday/Monday. You might ask Nichalp to take a final look (if you've addressed all his previous points). --Ragib 20:24, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, you were right, a little abbrasive, but I was in the wrong. Thanks for offering the help, I'll let you know if I need it. Omishark 16:43, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, ready

I just read the Shahbag article, from a brief overview it is up to Good articl standards. Its well written, neutral, well-cited, and has good prose. It is achievable of a FA giving a few more pictures, that's the criticism you might find. Otherwise, I agree with the assessments of the article. Great article to read, that could make it to the main page. Showmanship is the key 01:45, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Shahbag Review

Aditya Bhaia,

Sorry for my late response. I am little bit busy these days and didn’t want to provide a review like “jeno-teno”! I have gone through the whole article and found some of the parts that should be improved. Besides, this article demands some of the points to be added in order to give it a complete touch.

  • This article started in a nice way but ended up with a messy style. I didn’t found any organized conclusion and I just felt all on a sudden it ends.
  • Shahbag’s importance related to our liberation war can be arranged with a separate sub heading. It will be more appropriate if we can provide a picture of Banga Bondhu’s 7-e March Speech on Ramna Rasecourse.
  • I personally felt this article demands two special pictures, 1. A picture of Dhaka University, if it is ‘Aporajeo Bangla’, that will be the best. 2. A picture of Ramna Park.
  • Ramna Bomb-explosion can also be a sub heading as it was (or is!) one of the burning issues related to this place. We should also mention terrorist’s fate and current undergoing investigation by the law-n-order force with in one or two lines.

Other than those parts, overall article is well written. Niaz bd 05:54, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

FAC?

Should I nominate Shahbag for FAC? You might ask Nichalp for final comments, but I think it's ready for FAC. --Ragib 05:26, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Great. I've nominated it ... please express your opinion at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Shahbag. Thanks. --Ragib 07:53, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I tweaked the table at Shahbag#Urban layout a bit so that it now takes up less vertical space. Might need more work though. --KFP (talk | contribs) 15:57, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

This weekend

Hi Aditya,

Will you be around on WP this weekend? I am busy right now, but will leave more questions on the Shahbag talk page for you later. If you could answer them, it would be great. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 18:13, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Shahbag map

Saw your coment on Nichalps talkpage. Since i work with illustrator i can help you with exporting SVG, what version do you use and can you give me the page where you uploaded your svg -- PlaneMad|YakYak 17:53, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

I can fix the SVG and reupload it, but it would be better if we can resolve the problem at your end. Use the following options(if available) while exporting:

  1. Font type:SVG, Subset:Glyphs only
  2. Images: Link
  3. CSS properties: Presentation attributes
  4. Decimal: 2 places
  5. Encoding: UTF 8
  6. DONT USE Include adobe server data and slicing data
  7. Uncheck preserve illustrator editing capabilities and use <textpath> element

Try reuploading with these options-- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:21, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Just checked your svg and theres nothing wrong with it as it displays when opened. The source tells me you have used myriad font(copyright), Pls use Arial/Times new roman instead. Theres also a lot of unnecessary data which is what is causing the rasterising to fail, follow the above export options and it shall be fine -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:25, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Fixed, just your text isnt showing, not sure about that. Add a white background so that you dont have a transparent back -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:39, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Your SVG still has Myriad Bold font embedded, pls replace the font-- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:41, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, the font is embedded in some wierd way, ill check this tomorrow, in the meantime not subsetting fonts should fix this for the moment -- PlaneMad|YakYak 19:11, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
I checked the two maps you linked on Shahbag featured article discussion page. The Shahbag map worked for me but the old/new dhaka map didn't.-Arman Aziz 06:19, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Ive fixed the image and it shows up now. Here are my observations:

  1. Delete any files you imported before exporting (in this case dhaka_map.gif). This was the cause for the problem.
  2. When i saw your SVG source the font data was embeded in some other format instead of vector points, which is also causing trouble. Try playing around with the font and CSS style export options. Or can you take a screenshot of your export dialog (host it on http://imageshack.us )
  3. All the text has been rotated by a few angles, you may want to correct that.
  4. You have used knockout and isolate blending in the transperancy options. This has no effect and only increases file size. This can be fixed by selecting all the text and clicking the "reduce to basic appearance" icon in the appearance pallete.

-- PlaneMad|YakYak 08:50, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Looks like the person I've was going to recommend you to has alreadt taken care of the request. :) Thanks Planemad! =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:13, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello! Thanks for your repeated requests for comments. I'm in the middle of several real-life projects right now, but I will certainly give it a look if I get a chance during the next few days! Best wishes, MarkBuckles (talk) 01:15, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Shahbag Maps

Great job on both maps! Will attend to pruning the lead a little. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:58, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I agree, "Historic Mansions" is a better section header. Sure, you could create a stub for Chayanaut Music School, if it's not too much work; otherwise, just let it be for now. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 15:22, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
I don't see any transport information? Could this be added in one of the sections? =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:37, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Aditya, I think your geographic info is fine in the new Urban Layout section. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 19:35, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Shahbag

I've made some important structural changes to the article. I still feel it needs the following:

  1. District it comes under/ ward that comes under in urban layout
  2. Red dot on the locator map needs to be made larger.
  3. Who looks after the Thana, an officer?

=Nichalp «Talk»= 16:52, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Congrats

Congrats on your first FA! May there be many more to come. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:34, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Congrats from me too! You did a stellar job. BTW, how did you (so very quickly) convert the Dhaka map on the website to the svg map on the Shahbag page? Did you use software for it? I am very interested in learning how to do it. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 11:32, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Bengali Language Movement

fAC

Hi - I have submitted Language movement for FAC. I request your input at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Language movement. Rama's arrow (just a sexy boy) 19:40, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your input - while I will soon address your points completely, I request that you please check if you have the sourcs that can provide more information to the article and help in copyediting. Being in Bangladesh, you will possibly have better access to diverse sources than I; I'm doing the best I can in terms of online sources. As this is a race against time, I request your help. Cheers, Rama's arrow (just a sexy boy) 02:56, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Language movement FAC

Could you please lend a hand? Rama's arrow has left Wikipedia over the RFARB, and now the article and the FAC is kind of orphaned. If you have some time, can you please make some of the copyedits you suggested in the FAC page? Thanks. --Ragib 07:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Please help

Ragib bhai is right about the situation. Please help with the copyediting and ask me if you want something. Anything you want, just ask me. Tarif from Bangladesh 07:41, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Scholary argument

You have asked for some scholary arguments. Here's what I've found:

  • Regarding the fact of Indians making Hindi their state language, Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Universtity, Ziauddin Ahmed asked pakistanis to follow the idea by giving the same status to Urdu in Pakistan.

source:Bodruddin Umar's Purbo-Banglar Bhasha Andolon O Totkalin Rajniti.

  • In reply, Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah said, imitating the act of the congress (of India) by giving only Urdu the status of state language would be a setback. He also said, Bengali holds an special position in world literature. Bengali is one of the highest spoken language and ranked 7th in the world. He quoted, If English is left for being a foreign language, their is no reason not to select Bengali as state language. He also pointed out that Urdu is not the native language of any part of Pakistan but said, if we have to choose a second state language, we should consider Urdu.

source:The Daily Azad, July 29, 1947

  • Abdul Haq, the editor of Showgat said, If Urdu is announced as the only state language then Urdu would take the position of English... As a result 50 million people of Pakistan would become disable for government postings...despite being the majority, Bengali people would remain second... if the linguistic freedom don't come, the whole indipendence would not be complete.

Source:Bashir Al Helal's book, pp.192

  • Abul Mansur Ahmed said, If Urdu becomes the state language, the educated society of East Pakistan would become 'illiterate' and 'ineligible' for government post.

source:source:Bodruddin Umar's Purbo-Banglar Bhasha Andolon O Totkalin Rajniti. pp.30-32

  • Amongst others who support equal status of Bengali along with Urdu are Dr. Enamul Haq and Motahar Hossain Chowdhury.

Source:Bashir Al Helal's book, pp.201-207

if necessary please include this in the main article. Thanks--- Tarif from Bangladesh 08:28, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Just asking

I saw you erased a few really annoying comments of Jinnah from the article. I think it's not reflecting his and Muslim League's real position about the language crisis. Please don't take my concern otherwise. I'm just asking. You are far more experienced and I'm just a newbie. Anyway keep it up and good luck. Tarif from Bangladesh 08:50, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I just wanted to make sure Jinnah's strong position against the movement. Anyway lets get this done. Tarif from Bangladesh 19:54, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Template

I have created a template (in the same form as BD Liberation War template). Please expand the template Template:Language_Movement, and add it to the bottom of the article. --Ragib 08:56, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Ohiullah and Salauddin

I have posted some information(on FAC page) about Ohiullah and Salauddin along with citations. Please Have a look at it if you want. And as you may know that I basically edit from cellphone, so sometimes it becomes more difficult to keep track of all the pages. So if you want me to do anything, please post it to my talk page. Thanks and i'll try to work on Tarkabagish. Tarif from Bangladesh 19:51, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Nooooo...

Please do not add chart/list form in the legacy, or, for that matter, anywhere else in the article. Please write in prose form. If needed, create another article named "Cultural influence of Language movement", or something like that, and add the list there. Can see Artistic depictions of the partition of India.--Dwaipayan (talk) 20:45, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

After you are done with Artistic depictions of the language movement, please add a gist in prose form in Language movement, under Legacy. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:51, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: Good job, but...

I also thought the expansion may seem to be rather un-referenced. That's why specifically asked in the edit summary to have a look: "cultural depictions expanded; please see"! The film is ok, IMO. But really no idea about the novels and poems (though I remember to have read Shamsur Rahaman's poems). So what do you suggest? Revert to the state where no specific example is given?--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:41, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

I think we should wait for one or two days so that other concerns (which are, in essence, comprehensiveness and verifiability) are met. Then comes the prose. We can submit it to the League. The article at its present status, would not survive Tony :) --Dwaipayan (talk) 17:51, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I couldn't help but notice your message on Editor at Large's talk page, because it was just above mine. I'm willing to take a look at the article and see what I can do. I can't promise anything, because I'm a busy person, but I will see what I can do in terms of improving the prose of the article. --Kyoko 21:09, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I know next to nothing about the history and politics involved, so my participation will have to be limited to just copyediting. Offhand, I think it would be helpful if you explained in the intro a bit more about the Urdu-only policy: was this limited to what language was used in schools and on TV, or did it go so far as to prohibit the speaking of Bengali in public areas? I'm happy that I was able to restore your faith in Wikipedia, and thanks again. --Kyoko 21:44, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello... I have popped in on the article to see if I could get some copyediting done, but every time I do there's an {{inuse}} tag on it so I left it alone. My edits tend to change a lot of minor details and when you get an edit conflict it's very hard to merge the two, so I often end up just starting over (which is a waste of time). You seem to have a nice team of copyeditors there, if I happen to be around when it's quieted down I'll see what I can do :) -- Editor at Largetalk 00:54, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Language movement

I finished the copyedit on Language movement. I'm not 100% confident that I didn't Americanize some of the British English in the article, so I'm going to have someone else proofread it during the next day or so. But considering the situation, I have spent almost five hours reading and re-reading the article looking for any errors, inconsistancies, or just WP:MOS changes. I'm confident in the changes that have been made, but I don't want you to hesitate to contact me if you have any feedback.

I wish you the best of luck on your FA nomination, good luck. Trusilver 03:54, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Can you strike out your Oppose? You have expressed support at the bottom, and stricken out the text under the "oppose", but the oppose in bold letters is still sticking out. Tony1 has removed his oppose, so now I think we are almost close to FA status. --Ragib 05:12, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

State language

Sorry, I can not remember any exact reference about what state language means. I have asked to Ragib bhai about this for help. Anyway I gave references to all the novels, poems and stage plays which are mentioned in the article. Anymore thing to do? Call me. Cheers Tarif from Bangladesh 12:02, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Kyoko have posted a message about changing the lead section. My personal opinion is that its ok. This is probably a classic example of Many man many mind. Well, if you need it needs to be changed, then let her. Regards- Tarif from Bangladesh 19:13, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

One more thing

Arman talked about it. I think the criticism section could still use some re-write. What is the context of the statement "The participation of Bengali Hindus and the Hindu foundations of Bengali culture provoked considerable opposition in West Pakistan. Several Bengali politicians such as Maulana Bhashani, Golam Azam, Motiur Rahman Nizami and Shah Azizur Rahman were alienated from the Awami League and subsequent Bengali nationalist agitations"? Why were they alienated and how is that related to the Language Movement? Also there seems to be sevaral different points on criticism - it is very difficult to separate one from the other. I am looking to it. Can you help? Tarif from Bangladesh 11:05, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Can you please strike out the comments you made (and were attended to adequately) in the FAC? It makes an visual impresion!!! Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:07, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

I am grateful

I don't really know, do I really do those things you said I do? Well, if I do, then it's just because I had great friends throughout my life. Great friends like you. Out of nowhere, they add priceless moments to my life, without being aware of. I wish I could let them know how much they mean to me. I wish I could speak those things I could only feel! So I won't say thanks, I won't express gratitude, because I can not express what I feel... --Tarif from Bangladesh 19:23, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

What's The Problem

Well, to be honest, I have started to become a little restless about getting Language movement into an FA. That's probably because I don't have enough experience about FAC. Why is it taking so long? Considering the fact that almost all of the concerns are solved. Hasnot it met criteria 1a yet? Is there anything more specific is needed? I have no idea. You have done a great job with Shahbag (the place that I had to go a number of times for LM), that's why I'm asking you. In how many days do you think we'll get this done? (By the way, don't take the message too seriously, it's nearly half passed two and I just needed to talk to someone :) Tarif from Bangladesh 20:24, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

I think the main problem here is that we skipped peer review, which would have caught the copyedit issues, and also the language/reference issues. --Ragib 21:36, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
What is that language/reference issue? Is it that we referered heavily from a Bengali book? --Tarif from Bangladesh 08:50, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I'll try

I am going through those tips you have provided. I can give it a try. We will also have to motivate some more experienced copyeditors as well. --Tarif from Bangladesh 17:51, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I am trying to chop up a few snakes based on tips you have provided. A lot still remains to be done. I'll keep trying. Regards --Tarif from Bangladesh 20:18, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

date format comment

Hello Aditya, I had placed the inuse template on Language Movement because I wanted to change the date format in the wikilinked dates from [[February 21|21 February]] to [[21 February]]. Thanks. --Kyoko 14:00, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

I went ahead and changed the wikilinked dates to the MM/DD format as described above. I haven't changed all of the dates in the references. --Kyoko 16:27, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Proposed name change

There is again a proposal for chang in the title of Language Movement to "Bangladesh Language Movement" or "Language Movement of Bangladesh". Please comment in the talk page of the article. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:06, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

sentence feedback

Hello, I looked at the sentence you pointed out in Bengali Language Movement, and it doesn't make sense to me. My understanding is that prisoners who don't post bail are kept in prison, not freed. Perhaps there is something missing in the sentence about public outcry or political pressure or something. --Kyoko 21:26, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Will edit Bangladesh Airlines article

Thanks for the request, glad to know I'm wanted; thanks also for the compliments on the user page. I'll go over the article tonight. Will that be soon enough? -- Preston McConkie 17:45, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

I've finished my first run through the Biman Bangladesh Airlines article. I want to go through again in about a week when I can look at it with fresh eyes. Right now the biggest change I'd like to see is to either put the list of airports served near the end of the article, or make that section more compact. Right now it visually suggests that there's nothing more to come, and it isn't the most compelling part of the article. I think too many readers will reach that point and stop.
However, I'm not ready to rearrange it just yet. I need to look at alternative ways of formatting the section, because organizationally it ought to be just where it is; it's the look that's the problem.
Anyway, thanks for inviting me to help. This is my first project as a member of the League of Copyeditors. -- Preston McConkie 23:02, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Hello, thanks for thinking about me, and thanks for the compliments. I will try to see what I can do, but I won't be able to work on it every day due to other obligations. Right now, to my eyes, the most obvious thing that needs fixing is the too-wordy language. I don't have specific sentences in mind, but it's the same sort of problem I saw with Bengali Language Movement when I first read it. I think the language needs to be more concise. I will try to read through the article again later. Thanks again for thinking about me. --Kyoko 17:47, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Sitakunda and Bangladesh

I have learned about Bangladesh and its political system, more or less like India. Can u explain a bit the differences with Indian context. Is Division = State, District=District and Upazila=Subdivision? The Sitakunda article is going on the right way and hope it will become a FA soon. Amartyabag TALK2ME 10:32, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

I am quite surprised by the job, it is quite hard to get the info in the district level in this region(North Bengal). If u check the Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Gangtok articles (they all are FA) u will be able to see that the Media section is almost the same. Add up the info what u get, state where the papers are printed and the names. Amartyabag TALK2ME 02:16, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Aditya, thank you for the well-wishes. I'm feeling better but now I'm very busy with stuff in real life, and I don't know how much time I'll be able to devote to the Sitakunda Upazila rewrite. Hello! You asked at User talk:Wetman how to clear up your usage of Neolithic celt signifying tool at Sitakunda Upazila. Wikipedia already has an article Celt (tool), which explains why this ill-defined word for a variety of shaped blades has been superceded. What does the literature that is more recent than 1886 and 1917 call these particular tools that you mention? A more defined modern term would solve any issue, I should think. Can't be more helpful, as I can't offer the modern term myself. --Wetman (talk) 07:47, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: Help

Yea, sure thing! One quick question - how much information are you looking for? ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 14:41, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Heh, it's a little unfortunate that I don't usually write on the North Indian Ocean cyclones, and as such I'm finding some difficulties in getting information for the specific city. I'm slightly concerned that the article says that the city was hit by floods and cyclones in 5 different years - does that really mean that both floods and cyclones separately hit the city? Given that the entire article is only on the city (and not on Climate of Sitakunda Upazila, for example), I'm not even sure more information on cyclones is needed. Unless you find out that one cyclone was particularly deadly in the city, I don't know if I can help out; a Google search for "Sitakunda Upazila" + cyclone yields few results, and I don't believe any of them would be helpful (several seem to be Wikipedia copies). One quick idea, though. Since the climate section is just one paragraph, maybe just make it a sub-section for the Geography section?

Also, just a few heads up before you get to your first FA. The usage of the word here borders on self-referencing, which should be avoided. Per the manual of style, numbers less than 10 should be spelled out (four, not 4), and numbers 10 and larger should be connected with the subsequent word with a non-breaking space (10 mills, not 10 mills - check this in the edit window). Good luck with the article! --♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:58, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I just assumed that upazila was a city. What I meant about the floods and cyclones was that the text reads like cyclones affected the area in those five years, and in those same years flooding affected the area. Was the flooding caused by the cyclones, or were those five years that had both cyclones and flooding separately affect the city (like a cyclone hitting in May and a flood hitting it in November)? I still think the climate section should be a sub-section of geography - that way, readers won't expect to have a full climate section (which might not be needed, since the article is already fairly long). I have a few questions while giving it a quick read-through. Is all of the information in the lede used in the article somewhere? Since the lede is supposed to be a summary of the article, the info should appear later. If it is already used, you could remove the references in the lede for less controversial pieces of information. I'm not sure if there is too much information; that is, I'm slightly concerned that some parts of the article might be somewhat redundant with surrounding regions, such as the article on Chittagong region with the history section. That said, it might not be an issue on the FAC, in which case you wouldn't need to worry about it. Let me know when you're going for FA, and I'll give it one last look-through before it passes :) --♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:18, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't quite think that template is needed, unless you added a few other storms. However, as I said before, the article is on the overall district, not the climate of the district, so you need to be careful of not adding too much information. I don't think it needs to be part of the geography section, nor should the geography section be expanded. The only reason I mentioned a possible section merge was to cut down on the overall number of sections, which might be useful given that the article is already 72 kb long. I think the information on the 1991 cyclone could be trimmed down to one sentence. In fact, I personally think the entire climate section should be trimmed down to one paragraph, and then merge into the geography section. It's easier to fill up an article with 100 kb of trivia than to write a comprehensive article in less than 50 kb, and I personally believe that its length might be one of its problems on its FAC. I'm not terribly familiar with this type of article, but that is just how I feel. Perhaps those sort of issues should be dealt with other editors in the Bangladesh WikiProject. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:44, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
It's still at 72 kb, but I'll let others worry about that. Regarding the table in the geography and climate section (nice - I like them merged), I still don't see a need for it, as it's a bit misleading (the deaths listed, for example, are the total deaths, not specifically the deaths in Sitakunda). Again, given that it isn't an article on the climatology on Sitakunda, but rather just an overview, I don't think there should be a table, as there could be dozens more cyclones on the list. I do like the smaller number of sections, though. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:27, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

sorry

Hello Aditya, I should have replied to your message earlier. I'm afraid that I won't be able to help you anytime soon in the rewriting of Sitakunda Upazila because of issues in real life that will likely keep me away from Wikipedia for an extended period of time. Sitakunda Upazila

Hi there Aditya, I hope you are well! I've just completed a very brief look over at the article and have to say I think it is looking very very good! You are doing excellent work. I think the best thing for now would be to have another copyeditor go back over the article (besides me) and "proofread" the article for clarity, etc. Two reasons: 1. More eyes are always better than less. Even though I have very strict personal editing styles, they are just styles and others' may see the article in new light. Simply put, another editor with copyediting experience may be able to see things that I won't or can't. It's like reading your own writing - you just can't see what others' can. I learnt that as a student (eons ago), a writer, a teacher... I would recommend bringing it back to the WP:LOCE project for proofreading. If you need any assistance in doing this, let me know on my talkpage! My second reason? I'm way too busy (here and in real life) to do the article the justice it deserves. Thanks - happy editing, Keeper | 76 20:04, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually i am busy wid my studies, so i will not be able to help u with the issues (if raised) but certainly i will give my say in the FAC. I can see there are a few experienced Wikipedian like Dwaipayan are having a watch on the article. Passing the article wouldn't be that hard wid their help. Go for it. -- Amartyabag TALK2ME 15:57, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Got your message, Aditya. Wow, do you not ever sleep? FAC already??? Good for you! I wish you the best with it. To list an article for copyediting, simply go to the requests page for the league. Before you list it, make sure it meets the request criteria, which BTW, I think this does. Good luck! Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:34, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I saw in peer review page your request and went there to provide you a constructive feedback. By next weekend I will write a feedback on its talk page. BTW, congratulations to bring up to GA and I'm sure you can pass it on FA as well. Just one off-topic issue, I have started working on Bengali literature. I'll get back to you and other wikipedians who are working on this list very soon with updates. In the mean time I have selected Bengali literature article to work because of mainly two reasons, it is related to my field of interest and I think enough online references are also available. Re: Hey

Yep, I'm an admin now - thanks! I'm having some free time right now, so I copyedited your article on Riya Sen, and came up with some comments.

  • Be sure to add {{Cite web}} to every reference, as I saw one without it and didn't check for more.
  • Double check the Wikilinks. I found a few that were redirects.
  • In the lede, I wasn't really sure how to mention that her race is Bengali, so, if you want it included, you might want to try and find another way to put it in there. Before, however, it didn't make much sense in its placement.
  • In the lede, was there any particular reason you chose those works? Also, there should be uniformity between how you present those works. The first you mention was a musical, the second has nothing, the third was comedy-drama, the fourth has nothing, and the fifth was labeled as Malayalam, then had its plot described. The first and third follow a format, so I recommend doing something like that for the rest.
  • There is no mention of her early life, such as when she was born, or where, in the body of the article; it'd be nice to have it included and, of course, be sourced.
  • How old was she when she was in her first movie?
  • It'd be nice to know how big, and what type, her role was in her first major film. It'd also be nice if you could create an article for the movie Style, and a stub would be fine.
  • There are places in the article where the scope goes beyond what it should. For example, I recommend trimming down on the first paragraph of acting career; these sentences seem to have little to do with the subject of the article (excluding the first five words).
    • A launch pad for Riya, Sharman Joshi, Sahil Khan and Shilpi Mudgal, the film pioneered a trend of commercial success for small budget films in India. Both the female leads were replaced, by aspirant actersses Sunali Joshi and Jaya Seal, in Xcuse Me, the sequel of Style.
  • The second and third paragraphs of acting career seem out of order, or contradictory. The second starts off with saying how most of "her other films have not done as well." Some of the wording/writing should be improved there, as I found it confusing. In the third paragraph, it says how that one film was a success on a small budget, but it doesn't say how successful it was.
  • Is her mother's name "Moonmoon" or "Moon moon"? Both are used in the article.
  • At the end of the first paragraph of "Non-Hindi films", there is a confusing sentence. A remake of the Bengali film Hei Brishtir Raat, also featured her mother Moon Moon. Does that mean Sen appeared in that movie with her mother? The second paragraph of that section got me very confused, and should be re-checked.

I only got to the Non-Hindi films section, as it appears the article still needs some work. One thing I noticed later in the article was this.

  • ...she underwent a detoxification session in Bangkok for addiction to chocolates - did I read that right? There's no other mention of a chocolate addition in the article. If that is correct and it was serious, it'd be nice if it could be expanded a bit.

Regarding Sitakunda Upaluza, here are some quick comments.

  • In June 2007, Sitakunda was badly affected by mudslides, along with Chittagong and Hathazari - that's in the history section. I think it might be appropriate to put it in the geography and climate section, and maybe clarify how often/rare that mudslides are in the upaliza.
  • Also, I worry that the history section is too broad for this article. Remember, the is already an article on the history of Bangladesh, as well as an article on Chittagong District. I don't know if this has been discussed, but I find that a bit of a problem.
  • Any reason in "Geography and Climate" that "char" in "char land" is italicized?
  • One thing I noticed in both articles: when you're doing a list, be sure that there is a comma after every item except for the last one. It should be "boy, girl, and dog", not "boy, girl and dog."
  • In "adminstration", there is a link to "thana", which is a redirect.

Alright, now back to hurricane articles - that was too many Asian articles for one night ;) Good luck with the articles. Oh, how would you like to return the favor, by commenting on an FAC of mine - it didn't hit Bangladesh, but the storm close to your part of the globe. Cheers. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 04:54, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I have strong doubt about Southern University, Bangladesh. If it is located in CTG, we have to remove it from Dhaka. IIUC also has a Dhaka Campus but that does not mean a new university. Similarly IUB has a campus in CTG and AUST has a campus in Rajshahi but those are not university rather just a campus. I observed that an anonymous user is trying again and again to enter this name in CTG section of the list. Well, I will have a look at those issues tomorrow and let you know in detail. I'll have a read later. Riya Sen is very hot huh? I can see you are a hot blooded male! lol ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:42, 29 March 2008 (UTC) Yes I find her very attractive too. I'll read more into it later ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:52, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

One of my favourites is Haifa Wehbe a gorgeous Lebanese singer and model. Have a look here ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:03, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Riya Sen

No problem. ShahidTalk2me 15:54, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Needs much copyediting, as I see now in other sections. I'll make some improvements and then comment. ShahidTalk2me 15:51, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I've made major copyediting, grammar correction, etc., and in my opinion it looks better. I'm yet to go through the personal life section. What do you say? ShahidTalk2me 17:10, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I've looked over it its improved a lot since I last looked and it; I've made some changes including a new image. I think it needs a good bit of copy editing to be honest. Some of the phrases and sentences are quite awkward and will need complete altering. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:14, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

"Riya Sen, since joining Bollywood, has become a representative of the aspirations of younger people of India by way of her clothing style, kissing scenes and outgoing manners" -this is far too generalized and POV however much of a model she is. All the stuff on the glitzy parties and bikinis. Much of that reads like blog and will have to be seriously cut and reworded ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:23, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello there! I'm just as excited as you are for the Riya Sen's GA nomination. I hope your patient wait will be worth it! How are you, btw? Whats keeping you busy these days? Cheers! Mspraveen (talk) 15:44, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. Good to hear from you. I'm doing fine. Thank you. I'm not quite sure about any further failures for the article. I'll be around, so in case you need any assistance while it is being reviewed, you know whom to ping. Btw, I didn't understand your allusion to recession - as in the Bangla's economy? Cheers! Mspraveen (talk) 16:51, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Sex symbol

Avoid the phrase if your only sources are random articles from the cinema section of regional papers, please. The phrase means something specific with sociological connotations, and in other film articles is placed only with care. Remember that some Indian papers tend to use phrases without that much care; for example, I can google pretty much every major female Bollywood star and discover dozens of references calling them a sex symbol. That basically renders it meaningless and unencyclopaedic based on that quality ref.

As a major contributor to Anandabhadram, I thought you would want to be notified that the article is currently under going a Good Article Reassessment as part of the GA Sweeps. The article currently fails the good article criteria, as detailed at Talk:Anandabhadram/GA1. The reassessment is on hold for seven days to allow time for the issues to be addressed. If they can not be addressed by then, it will be delisted. Thanks. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 01:19, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Anandabhadram

Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am glad to be reviewing the article Anandabhadram you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Viriditas (talk) 07:57, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Although I will address questions on the review page, I am curious if the editorial concerns raised during the 2009 GA reassessment were met. Viriditas (talk) 08:49, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
FYI...the correct procedure for adding archival links is to retain the old links in the url field, but to add two new fields "archiveurl" and "archivedate". See the documentation at Template:Cite web for info. Viriditas (talk) 10:41, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
A quick note to say I have not forgotten about you. I plan to finish up the review by tomorrow. Viriditas (talk) 06:42, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Jayne Mansfield

Dear Aditya,

Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I seem to be running around WP putting out fires, and not getting much of anything useful done. I'm pressed for time at this time of year (I still have several feet of beading to do on a dupatta I'm giving to my daughter!) but I'll see what I can do. Zora 01:52, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Jayne Mansfield

I would suggest either a block, or a semi-protection for the article. The only serious contributors to the article recently seemed to have been registered users. The IP is only interested in pushing one point. A semi-protect might lead to the person getting bored and moving on. Rossrs (talk) 13:21, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Jayne Mansfield rumours (again)

I really don't think this belongs here; for one thing it was inserted, IIRC, by banned sockpuppeteer User:Harvey Carter whose attitude to reliable sources was always suspect. Looking at the cited sources, the first cannot be regarded as a third-party source, and the second looks like a tabloid-writer's hatchet-job. Per WP:REDFLAG, I've deleted this section pending proper sourcing, which I will look into. Although it's not a WP:BLP issue, we still have a responsibility to report relevant and reliably-sourced material. --Rodhullandemu 19:21, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Jayne Mansfield article

I took a close look at the article and made several minor copy edits. The text seems to flow well enough, although there are many run-on sentences. This is due to the small 'edit war' going on, with editors trying to cram a lot of information into a single 'referenced' sentence. I untangled some of those. Let me know if you need further help with the article. Meclee (talk) 19:43, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Mansfield

I'm not going to contradict history, but it just wouldn't make sense if he married her and she went and had sex with someone else. It could be a possibility, but this book says otherwise. It makes their first marriage very clear, and I indeed cited it when I added in the new info:

"Paul and Jayne were married on January 28, 1950 in Fort Worth, Texas. ... In view of their January marriage, the wedding was arranged for May 10, 1950."

Dasani 20:12, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Also: "In January 1950, when I was sixteen, I met and secretly married the cheerleader of the football team at my school. He was tall, and handsome and I thought I was in love with him." Films and filming, Volume 7, issue 3. Hansom Books, 1961, told to Kurt Singer.[1] Fences&Windows 22:16, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I'm not sure why you chose me (and a dozen other random users) for this, but spamming talk pages probably isn't going to help you out here. I'll see what I can do later. — foxj 10:30, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Re: Jayne Mansfield images

If you look at the information on the image you linked, you'll see that the LA Times started filing for copyright in Jan of 1958, the Jockey image is from 1957, thus is PD-not-renewed. The rest of the images are potentially copyright, and the cc-by-sa-nc license prevents us using them here. Megapixie (talk) 11:00, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

There has been a Commons issue with the screencapture of the Mansfield Infobox image, I don't quite understand why it got deleted. I am trying to get it straightened out, maybe getting the image instead placed onto Wikipedia. Shearonink (talk) 21:34, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Help: Works of Jayne Mansfield

You asked for help with the tables in the article Works of Jayne Mansfield. I'm afraid I don't have any great ideas beyond simply suggesting that you look through similar tables found through Category:Filmographies and see how the best looking tables do things. [g]) If there are only a few "notes" in a table, you might try replacing that column with footnotes via the templates {{note}} and {{ref}}. Whatever you do, don't try fancy stuff like "colspan" or "rowspan", since AFAIK that can mess up sorting on "sortable" tables. I'm sure you can find better help with this sort of thing, if it's still needed, when you put it up for FLC. - dcljr (talk) 10:28, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Mansfield

I edited the article a bit again. You're right, some parts are too ambiguous. As for the personal life I'm not sure, I looked around and some featured and good articles have it ("They met on the set of ___") and some don't. Supposedly, it would be very incomplete without. Dasani 22:51, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Great work. Posting my response to the article talk page. Aditya(talkcontribs) 03:15, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Jayne Mansfield refs

All of the refs are now in cite templates. There are quite a few that need info to be filled in, such as author, date, isbn, etc. I've left these alone because I figured you would probably get rid of some refs, as the reffing seemed a bit excessive in some places. My compliments on the article, as it's quite monumental. Good luck getting it to FA! INeverCry 16:32, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

I was looking at the article, and noticed the biographies section at the very bottom. Wouldn't this be better as a bulleted list with ISBNs? I could do it pretty quick if you want. Let me know. I would make it a stand-alone section also, and not part of legacy. INeverCry 17:24, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
I just noticed that there are two biographies sections. I'll combine these into one section with "books" and "internet" subsections. I should be able to work on this in the next day or two. INeverCry 05:03, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
All done. Looks pretty good. INeverCry 19:02, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
LoL, I did my list without even looking at the refs. A bit of extra work, but I don't mind at all. Mine look a bit more polished, with authorlinks and such, and there look to be a few bios not being used as refs, but I only used basic cite temps... I would suggest that you ask Gadget850 for advice on this, as he's more experienced than I am. INeverCry 04:11, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Bikini, Thong (clothing) and Whale Tail

My edit to Thong (clothing)

Hi, I was actually going to do something with that list, and indeed I have added what i consider to be the notable bits in a section on controversy, and have nominated "Thongs in the news" for deletion as it is, as you say, an utter waste of space. -mattbuck (Talk) 21:23, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. In your recent edit to Thong (clothing) [2], you supplied an edit summary of: "we can't have refs before the copy, wikipedia doesn't work that way." I am rather confused as to what you meant by that. Could you please explain in greater detail? Thanks Seidenstud (talk) 09:11, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

String bikini

Dear AK, don't you think we need a separate article on string bikini? I also feel that we can make our Bikini article a "good article". I also started the bio of Louis Réard, who invented bikini in 1946. Your help will be useful. Have a nice day! :-) AdjustShift (talk) 07:16, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I'll do my best for the betterment of bikini-related articles. Have a nice day! :-) AdjustShift (talk) 13:27, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Whale Tail

You may want to look at Template:Cite book, which gives a better description of how to cite books. They are not cited with a weblink they are usually cited then added to the notes section. But citing Book Name (Page 20) in the middle of a sentence is wrong. And you can't violate 3RR if you are adding and citing material. So you are fine on that count, I was trying to remove the information while I found the right page to refer you to. Darrenhusted (talk) 13:51, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Bikini and world heritage site

Dear Aditya Kabir, please explain your revert of my edit on the Bikini article. My goal was to copyedit the section to reduce the detail not directly linked with Bikini. It contains a lot of detail about the mosaics in general. Unless there is a link between fact that the mosaics are a world heritage site and that they depict bikinis, there is no benefit mentioning it in this article. Inwind (talk) 08:35, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Generally the earliest finds of anything which has a old enough story to tell does it in as much details as possible in the early part, and gradually become more constrained. That's how encyclopedias, academic journals, magazines and newspapers go in style of writing. The article is very much in under construction, and it would be greatly beneficial if we stop removing stuff, rather than strengthening the weak spots. I perfectly appreciate your concern, but method-wise, I guess, we need to keep it for now. Since the article is being worked on, very much, just have a bit ore patient. You'll have ample time to remove almost anything you don't like later. Aditya(talkcontribs) 09:30, 15 December 2008 (UTC)(copied from User talk:Inwind#Re: Bikini)
Everyone should win since there is no loss of information. I enjoy working interactively with other people, sometimes on whole articles, sometimes only on certain aspects. I believe in continuous improvement, i.e. people do not edit without reason. If more contributers are working on an article more views can be included.Inwind (talk) 10:04, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

History of the bikini

I might be able to lend a hand, though it's not the most interesting article to me just as a matter of personal taste so I don't want to invest tons of time. What specifically do you want help with? Calliopejen1 (talk) 14:11, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Thong (clothing)

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.147.57.213 (talk) 20:04, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

You restored all the irrelevant material about "Other whale tails", which is disappointing to see. Wikipedia articles are about single topics (in this case a type of visible underwear), not topics that happen to share a name. That is not an article on the phrase "whale tail". Surely you understand this?

I merged the material on the spoiler to Spoiler (automotive)#Whale tail, and added entries to wiktionary:whale tail and wiktionary:whale's tail (where they could be supported). I've restored the material about the car spoiler to the Spoiler (automotive) article - please don't revert.
