Hi. Regarding Rex Tremlett, an article for which you recently warned the creator that a tag had been placed for speedy deletion (I can only assume mistakenly ). It appears to me from the content in the article (such as it is) that the guy is notable, though the content is a bit fuxxed. It'd be better to just fix it up (it'll take me 5 mins tops ;) than nominate it for deletion. -- [[User talk:Naerii|< |

Hello Zginder, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation in my RfA which was passed with a final tally of 114/10/4. I'm both shocked and honoured to gain so much support from users whom I admire and trust, and I hope I can avoid breaking that backing by being the best administrator I possibly can. I will take on board the opposition's comments and I hope to improve over the coming months and years. Once again, thank you! [[User:WBOSITG|< |

Hi, Suddenly we're filling a gap in the weekly Signpost Dispatch section with an article on Featured Sounds, and I'll have to do it within a day. I'm contacting several people on the history page, you among them, who might be able to review the draft (I hope it will be written in about 12 hours' time). Can you suggest anyone else? Do you know anyone who's been around from the start, who might know more about the history of the page? I guess I can find it via the edit histories. [[User:Tony1|< |

List of New York City Ballet 2007 Winter Repertory
[edit]I was adding a category and an external link as you tagged List of New York City Ballet 2007 Winter Repertory.
May I explain the page's notability?
City Ballet has over 400 ballets in their rep. (the biggest of any ballet company in the world) and dances nearly 80 each year.
I have been putting articles about each ballet on Wikipedia for the past few months in preparation for the upcoming season (December 30th is their last Nutcracker, January 2nd the beginning of the real winter season.)
Having discussed this with dance professors, ballet masters, company members and choreographers, it's felt that one of the most valuable entries on Wikipedia would be each seasons rep. with casting.
This is information of intense interest to dance scholars and is not available on line after the season nor much of anywhere else. Casting is not made known until two weeks before performance and even then subject to (frequent) change, right down to show time.
Most evenings there will be a little slip of paper tucked into each program stating who is out injured and who is dancing in their place.
In very rare cases an announcement is made just before the curtain goes up.
These last minute changes are not necessarily recorded even on the NYCB website.
As I live in Times Square and attend City Ballet almost nightly (they've got $15 tickets for us poor folk) I can maintain a true record of the casts that perform, which is one of the most central issues in dance history -- if not the most central issue.
Ballets have large and complex casts compared with operas or plays and are sometimes mix and match affairs; in extreme situations a dancer may begin learning a dance at 10 AM and perform it at 8 PM, and this is the stuff of ballet history (not just its gossip).
I will be adding the casts as the season progresses including those pesky curtain time cast changes.
I took the liberty of removing the uncategorized tag, but may I ask that you remove the notability tag, please?
I am loathe to do so myself as this is a matter of judgement. Robert Greer (talk) 03:10, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

User: BlueEarth & my Insolation Formula/charts
[edit]hello, just started using Wikipedia and I'm trying to get the etiquette at my own pace without offending anyone. I was just taking note that this user:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BlueEarth
seems to be taking credit for articles that other people have written, including yourself.
I would like to contribute to the information in certain articles without being labeled a vandal. This link shows what may appear to be ORIGINAL RESEARCH,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Insolation
but it's pretty basic astronomy, and I was concerned that if I started adding charts with the data calculated from this simple formula that it would get deleted, ... to be completely honest I have already added these charts but I was wondering if someone would hit me with the evaluation sooner rather than later.

Sorry, I was completely unaware of the peer review. Probably due to the holidays, I did not keep a very close eye to the article.
- Just for your reference, the initial chance in rating were because from the WP:Elements point of view, this is a GA-wannabe article (IMHO GA is more worthwile than A since the GA at least goes through a review process). Later on I decided that I should not mess up with the WP1.0 rating so I changed that one back. Several days ago I noticed that the article is not A-level anymore, and I thought the confusion vetween the WP:Elements rating and WP1.0 made somebody set both to B. [edit]Invitation
[edit]Hello. You may have seen that some Wikipedia articles lack sources to given dates, timelines and chronologies.
If you feel that you could like to help in making all articles more reliable and well sourced in this regard, we would like to encourage you to use, as part of your daily editing and when fact is not enough for requesting clearly and specifically a citation or source for dates, timeline or chronology, the following inline tag:
- Timefact displays {chronology source needed} for requesting timelines, dates and chronology sources. Click here for more information
At WP Timeline Tracer, we thank you for using these tools and for helping to make Wikipedia articles more accurate and reliable.

Wikipedians for tables, bulleted and number lists, and graphs
[edit]"The policy of changing simple to understand bulleted and number lists into pros destroys the easy to readiness of the encyclopedia". You might wanna try here if you think prose is too complicated for you. I'm not even a native speaker and my English sucks, yet I still enjoy reading prose and prefer that over glancing at tables, bulleted and number lists — mainly because I like to further refine my understanding of the English language in addition to learning mere facts. Why not call it "Association of Wikipedians who hate prose as well as the fact that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not The Guinness Book of Records"? User:Dorftrottel 08:53, January 31, 2008
Simpsons season 9 FTC
[edit]I'm curious, I don't understand your last comment at the WP:FTC discussion? Cirt (talk) 00:55, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
You said we needed two more articles for each topic, but each has four featured articles, and 20% of 26 (rounded down) is 5, so we only need one more article for each topic. -- Scorpion0422 23:52, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but it doesn't specify that you have to round up. In fact, in the discussion, you yourself specifically said that it's 20% rounded down. 20% of 26 = 5.2. Rounded down, that's 5. -- Scorpion0422 00:43, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Are you referring to this diff? That was a previous proposal that was not implemented this one was and I had misinterpreted it anyway as shown here. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 00:55, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Featured Sounds
[edit]I'd love to, but only if I'm not the only one deciding. In past votes, other editors have used sound and music programs to look at the sound, and judge its quality from a scientific/visual perspective and not just a subjective view. Especially when it comes to classical music. Zidel333 (talk) 00:39, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for pointing out a problem with the image licensing ... I must admit despite being a seasoned contributor I find this image licensing stuff pretty confusing and hard to get right .. are there recommended examples of standard things like book covers, album covers, paintings etc? Have I done the Jonah cover ok now, or not? Stumps (talk) 23:06, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- There is one section called "Low resolution?" this picture is not low resolution and might be to large for fair use. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 23:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Regarding Rex Tremlett, an article for which you recently warned the creator that a tag had been placed for speedy deletion [1] (I can only assume mistakenly [2]). It appears to me from the content in the article (such as it is) that the guy is notable, though the content is a bit fuxxed. It'd be better to just fix it up (it'll take me 5 mins tops ;) than nominate it for deletion. -- Naerii · plz create stuff 20:59, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Re your post: I'm not familiar with the terminology. Would you do me a favour and explain what the difference is between quality versions and sighted versions -- or give a link to somewhere where it's explained? Does "sighted" just mean that an autoconfirmed user (or whatever) has confirmed that it doesn't seem to be vandalism? Thanks. --Coppertwig (talk) 23:15, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Go ahead. Zginder 2008-04-14T23:01Z (UTC)
First of all, the Princeton Review is a horrible guide for the ACT, so I would not use their chart. You cannot place exact values for conversions between the tests, so a range is much better. If you feel a conversion chart is necessary, use the EXACT same conversion chart that is on the SAT wiki page and CREATE A NEW SECTION for the conversion chart. That seems very reasonable. The percentiles between the two tests do not match up exactly, so you need to make a new section, and not group everything together. Copy the conversion table from wiki, and keep the percentile table. Second of all it IS STATISTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to be in the 100th percentile for anything unless you are number one. Number one does not include ties at scores of 36, and certainly does not have scores of 35 and 34 in the 100th percentile. You have also not cited your imaginary percentile rankings, probably because you have made them up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Redskins2k9 (talk • contribs) 21:32, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Martin's Brandon Church
[edit]You just posted notice to my user page of speedy deletion of Martin's Brandon Church, and it was already deleted. I posted request to Alexf's talk page to restore, is that you also, and/or are you working closely with Alexf, who is listed as the deleter?
Anyhow, Would you please undelete it so that i can develop it. That was just too abrupt.
It was a one sentence stub with an infobox already and a Talk page pointing to references to add, and it was documented that the site is listed on the U.S. National Register. It was not "incoherent" or "patent nonsense".
Check my edit history if you like.
Please undelete. doncram (talk) 21:32, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- Note, the apparently ungrammatical name is not a mistake, that is the historical name of the site, as in Martin's Brandon being an alternative name for Brandon Plantation. doncram (talk) 21:34, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- Whatever about the talkback policy, please reply to my Talk page or indicate there that you have answered here, please don't just reply here without informing me. doncram (talk) 21:37, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for replying, i suppose. You should recognize that the article should not have been deleted. A statement that a site is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places is an assertion of notability. Would you please clarify what is your relationship to Alexf? Are you or is that a sockpuppet? doncram (talk) 21:51, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- I did start the article with just a few words, and but had a copy-cache ready to put into the Talk page so went over to that for a minute. Then i was back and developed it approximately as it is now. I did not then see any db notice, so don't see how it could have happened that you marked the first version. Maybe Alexf is at fault for so quickly performing the actual deletion? But per new page patroller guidelines that i read once, I recall that you are not supposed to patrol instantly upon creation of an article, you are supposed to work on the oldest pages first or something. It is common that users create an article with several edits and it is not helpful to mark them for deletion instantly. doncram (talk) 22:12, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

'Private' Image
[edit]Hi. I believed that there was actually a rationale in place already at the bottom of the page (though I noticed some sort of Bot reversion that may have changed things), but in any event, I've expanded on the rationale for Image:Private.jpg. Please note that I've reproduced rationales that are already considered acceptable for other book covers, such as A Song of Ice and Fire. Thank you. --James26 (talk) 07:01, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of homeschooled individuals
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of homeschooled individuals, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Five Years 12:17, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- I see you have removed the notice. I am just enquiring as to why the notice was removed before proceding. Thanks. Five Years 12:41, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. Sorry, ive misworded my question above. Why did you oppose the deletion is what i meant to ask. Five Years 12:47, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- The prod tag was removed. As such I have listed it for Deletion. See the notice below. Five Years 13:00, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Arizona License Plate Images
[edit]I couldn't believe there was actually controversy about whether a license plate image is copyrighted or not. After following up on the heated discussions I see there is disagreement. It seems silly to me as I've never heard of a state objecting over novelty plate key chains with their designs. I will follow up with our Arizona DMV and see if they will approve the images. Also see if maybe they have some better ones then I've used so far. I won't upload any more images until getting their approval. Hopefully before the deadline to pull the ones uploaded so far. Just a heads up
[edit]I thought you might like to know that the Awards Center page has been deleted, along with its newsletter. :(
So, where do we go from here?
To new and even more interesting projects, of course!
As announced in the newsletter, I've been preparing to co-coordinate a large collaboration/competition called Around the World. It was going to be run at the Awards Center, but since that no longer exists, the collaboration will be hosted somewhere else.
Around the World will begin July 15th as planned - it's location will be announced soon.
It'll be a blast. In the competition, participants will be helping to develop over 200 pages (drafts, which will be moved to article space once they are ready), using advanced tools to edit every single one of them!
This is going to be interesting.
And the event shall have awards which are being created specifically for it as we speak!
If you would like me to keep you informed of this and other interesting collaborations I'll be working on and/or organizing in the future, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll be happy to keep you in the know.
I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
The Transhumanist 22:19, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I need your feedback...

What is Around the World?
[edit]It's a collaboration!
A collaboration using advanced wiki-tools!
If everything goes according to plan, it will begin on July 15th.
The event is being co-sponsored by Wikiproject Lists of basic topics and WikiProject Geography, and participants will be "traveling" all around "the World" visiting each country online (here on Wikipedia and perhaps beyond) as they apply advanced wiki-tools to improve pieces of the profiles of each and every country on Earth!. Each pass through these pages is a "trip around the World..."
The set of pages we are working on is currently located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists of basic topics.
Each page presents essential information on each country in a topic outline format, for ease of overviewing and navigating. Most of the topics presented are linkified, which turns these pages into a hypertextual map to material about each country on Wikipedia. When completed, they shall all become part of Wikipedia's contents system.
The pages share a standard format, with the information on each country presented in the same general order. So rather than getting stuck on a single country trying to complete it, each participant works on all 200+ political entities, completing a single data item or detail across all of the pages!
For this they use advanced tools like WP:AWB, Linky, etc. It goes fast, and since others are doing this at the same time, it makes "the World" feel like a beehive, and the participants are its bees. :) The energy is contagious.
And since you are moving from country to country, the tasks make it feel like you are traveling around the world, and you get to learn a little about every country as you do so. This approach also allows for greater efficiency, because by the time you've done 30 or so of a particular item, you've figured out how to finish it faster and more effectively (such as where to find the data or how to make adjustments), and this specialization speeds up development - but more importantly it reduces errors.
The tasks are varied, which adds even more variety to the project. Some tasks are look-ups-and-fill-ins, some are copy and paste, some are image hunts, some are maintenance adjustments, some are link fixing, some are blue-linking (creating an underlying redirect so a link turns blue), some are fact checking, etc.
For an example of what a nearly complete page looks like, see these:
- List of basic Albania topics • List of basic Argentina topics • List of basic Australia topics • List of basic Canada topics • List of basic Ecuador topics • List of basic Egypt topics • List of basic France topics • List of basic Germany topics • List of basic Iceland topics • List of basic India topics • List of basic Indonesia topics • List of basic Iraq topics • List of basic Republic of Ireland topics • List of basic Italy topics • List of basic Isle of Man topics • List of basic Israel topics • List of basic Japan topics • List of basic Macau topics • List of basic Mexico topics • List of basic Russia topics • List of basic Taiwan topics • List of basic United Kingdom topics • List of basic United States topics
There are only about 200 more pages to go!
During the collaboration, co-coordinators will be standing by, to lend a helping hand to participants, provide instruction and tips on how to use the tools, and help them find what they are looking for. Co-coordinators will also be using advanced tools to inspect the work of participants, and touch it up as needed, or if a task was done wrong throughout, point this out to the participant so he or she can make the necessary corrections.
Co-coordinators are working on the set of pages right now, to familiarize themselves with "the World" so they can help more effectively by the time the main event starts. But there's still lots of preparation left to be done, and we are looking for editors experienced in advanced wikitools who would like to become co-coordinators.

copyright
[edit]For the record, all three are in Public domain in America - Korean copyright on audio works expires 50 years after creation (thank god), and the Brazillian copyright act was revised in 1998; the Carmen Miranda songs were out of copyright under the old act in... about 1993, I think (the guidance I have is "Out of copyright in America if from before 1936"). God, I hate copyright investigation. I suppose it's just lucky I knew that many countries treat recordings differently to other media, and checked, or I'd have lost 2 weeks of work. Re: This is my point.
[edit]Well, what I meant to say is that we are actively working towards a featured topic. It's not like we will never be done. We just completed bringing a few of the topic's articles to GA status, including Final Fantasy 3 and Final Fantasy 7 (a MASSIVE project), and now we're working on Final Fantasy XIII's peer review and now bringing Final Fantasy (video game) to GA status again. Upcoming World Development contest
[edit]Penubag has been hard at work developing awards for this project. He has completed a very professional looking medal, and is almost done with a trophy that is truly awesome - both of these awards are visually stunning.
I and a few others have been working steadily on the country outlines that will be the focus of the contest - an outline for every country of the world! They're shaping up nicely. So far, 28 of them have been moved to article space - these aren't complete, but they are complete enough to be made available for readers to benefit from them. The rest of the set still includes temporary data that was generated by template (because it matched most but not all of the countries), and before those lists can be moved to article space, all the temporary data needs to be checked for accuracy, and if incorrect it needs to be replaced with correct information.
The effort on the lists has been on 3 fronts:
- Working on the lists in article space to complete them so they will be good examples for editors working on the rest of the set (during the contest).
- Adding or correcting other data (fixing redlinks, filling in blanks, etc.). The main type of work participants in the contest will be doing. The reason we're doing this is to get a feel for it, to develop the fastest methods for each type of task, etc.
- Improving the overall design and implenting changes on all 247 pages, whether in article space or not.
There has been some opposition to us running the contest based on edit counts or iterations. The concern is that we should reward quality work and not quantity, for fear of crappy edits done quickly without thought just to earn an award. I pointed out that the collection of pages are drafts in the Wikipedia namespace (therefore posing no danger to article space) and that most of the work needs to be done with power tools like AWB and Linky (which are specifically designed for repetitive volumnous work), but the reply was that we shouldn't set the precedent of rewarding barnstars for numerically-based tasks, and implied the threat of continuously MfD'ing the contest if we attempted to do so (like they did with the Awards Center - I was very surprised and disappointed that participants didn't step up to defend it). So we need to be careful in determining what exactly the awards will represent, and how they will be awarded.
Since rewarding iterations (passes with AWB on all of the pages in the set) are out, we really don't need the globe-in-stand (award we were working on) anymore. Two awards should suffice.
Once we get started with the contest, I'd like to kick the whole thing off with a round of medals for those dedicated few who have worked hard on the project so far.
What do you think of all of this?
Your comments and suggestions are most welcome.

[edit]Country outlines project update - 2009/03/08
[edit]Remember "Around the World"?
Well, we've been around the World, and around again (virtually speaking, on Wikipedia), on this project.
Things have been slowing down again, so it's time for a big push...
We've gone live
[edit]This project needed a shot in the arm. Also, its draft pages have been littering Wikipedia's categories for months. The time seemed right to move all the country outline drafts to article space.
WHAT???
Well, the drafts had been sitting in Wikipedia space for a year.
WHAT???
Development has been moving at a snail's pace and we could use the help of the Wikipedia community at large (who are more likely to find these if they are in article space).
WHAT???
Yes, we've gone live. :)
This puts pressure on us to get the blatantly incomplete elements of these outlines done. The only glaring problem is the government branches sections. These need to be corrected ASAP.
I've mentioned THE GOVERNMENT BRANCHES SECTIONS many times to many people over the past year, but the problem just doesn't seem to have been taken seriously. So let me put it another way:
HELP!!! I need your help on this now. Almost all the countries have a government with an executive branch, a legislative branch, and a judicial branch. The links for these branches need to be completed for each country outline:
- Here's a convenient list you can use WP:LINKY on to access and edit these quickly. Please copy the list's link to the top of your talk page so that you can access it easily.
If you spot any standardization in links, and ways we can automate parts of this process, or for groups of countries that have links in common, please let me know!
Administrative support for outlines
[edit]There has been growing pressure on me to write up the administrative pages for outlines - their instructions, guidelines, etc. Therefore, I'm now in the process of composing these. Fortunately, it is mostly a matter of gathering material from messages I've written to you guys over the past year. Still, this is taking up most of my time, and I will be buried in these for the foreseeable future.
Traffic control
[edit]The next big task after the government branches sections are cleaned up is link support for the outlines.
There's quite a list of links and notices that need to be put in place around Wikipedia, providing access to them to readers, and alerting editors to the need to develop and maintain these pages. This will keep our bot people very busy (and happy).
But the most important thing right now is to get the government branches sections completed. So please, put your bots aside, roll up your shirt sleeves, and start typing.
Thank you.

AfD nomination of Comparison of the 12-hour and 24-hour clocks
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Comparison of the 12-hour and 24-hour clocks. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Comparison of the 12-hour and 24-hour clocks. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 02:00, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 16:00, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Mystic
[edit]The situation with Mystic is rather confusing. The website lists platforms that are accessible from the street and a portable lift (both of which I can confirm in person), but the system timetable does not list it as accessible. I was going off the former information when I changed the page, but lacking other 'official' information I fully support your current edit. I may place a call on Monday to determine what a ticket agent says; if they say that it is accessible then it may be an omission in the timetable in which case I will give up on citing sources and start potato farming instead. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
