The article :Computational X has been proposed for deletion&#32;because of the following concern:
129.177.44.170
<blockquote>Potential concerns include (1) lack of clearly-defined scope beyond an assortment of fields which have "computational" in the name, (2) not clearly distinguished from other more precise realizations of the idea including big data, informatics, and computational thinking, (3) lack of strong references supporting that this meets notability. See discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computer science#Computational X</blockquote>

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
Regarding your message: http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=User_talk:129.177.44.170&redirect=no

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the proposed deletion/dated notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
You are probably mistaken. These IPs are shared by more than a 1000 people who access the internet through the University of Bergen's network. Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing proposed deletion/dated will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify -->

My response: I did not place a fake anything. The "URL" as you call it is referenced all over and it is very relevant to Mathematica because "the same code was taken from Mathematica to create Wolfa" or so I read on wolfram.com blogs and advertisements ref. Wolfram Alpha. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.101.174 (talk) 22:51, 23 October 2009 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Hello again,

I have been doing research on Wolfram Alpha, because it is a very intriguing service to me since I love math, science, and all things alike. I was looking through the history of the "Wolfram Alpha" article and noticed that you removed this from the article today as well: " Wolfa.com, shorter Web address provided as a courtesy by Wolfram employee." I understood perhaps why you wanted to remove it from Mathematica, but the link in question seems to explain this "URL" is simply a direct mirror site. This piqued my interest so I did further research to learn that sites which display advertisements or embed malware are not to be linked to on Wiki (Duhh), but this site is a direct mirror (from my understanding, it cannot even add a frame or ads in this "state"). Further research reveals everyone is interested in a "lesser long URL" (quote from a blog), so if an employe at Wolfram decided to provide one for convenience, why would you not include that in a Wiki page? I can't make sense of it.

:The domain name is not registered to Wolfram Research --Pleasantville (talk)

May I ask why that is relevant? External links are almost never associated to the company of the Wiki page. Mashable.com and Justin.tv are not registered to Wolfram Research... so your logic escapes me. I am new to contributing to the Wiki community, but I fail to see why your opinion is more important than mine. You are NOT a moderator to my knowledge. So I expect you to either have a discussion with me about this or put the external link back since it is worthy of mentioning. Thank you! <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.101.174 (talk) 19:13, 25 October 2009 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Thank you for replying. I have looked into this and spoken with a lawyer friend of mine prior to responding. In the discussion you are referencing, it is clear that the party was hosting an illegal mirror since they were posting ads using frames to profit from WolframAlpha without their consent. In the case of wolfa.com, it is being provided in "good faith" by someone who works for Wolfram without any ads or intent to profit from the mirror. Additionally, I looked further into the redirection and like I said before, wolfa.com is using a direct mirror (pointing directly to the IP address of WolframAlpha), in which case it is not possible for any content to be tampered with or ads to be added to this "URL." The lawyer has informed me this is "in no way illegal" since all it is doing is promoting the service and helping it with "good faith" efforts. Please confirm any of my statements you would like and reply with your thoughts. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.101.174 (talk) 16:43, 26 October 2009 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

I was looking to see if any existing Wolfram tools were in active use on the math wikiproject, and see you helped review ways to use Wolfram Demonstration tools in WP. They recently released interactive widgets that can hook into a page and provide a dynamic in-page frame thanks to the magic of javascript. Have you seen these in use online? I hear they are developing a MediaWiki extension that would allow this to be used in any page, and hope to get a copy to test out.

:Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I'm not sure how I missed this message. I haven't yet explored how Widgets can be used with math articles. I am currently exploring how Wolfram Alpha and its Widgets can be used with entries for placees within the Adirondack Park in the State of New York. --Pleasantville (talk) 15:01, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
:: Thanks for the update, that's an intersting idea! If you leave recommendations or suggestions for the extension authors I suspect they'll look into it; last I heard they were still actively trying to find ways to make widgets useful on WP. A little mountain-info and trail-info widget would be cool; I still have hopes of becoming a 4[6]er one day. <span style="border:1px solid #eee;padding:0 2px 0 2px;background-color:white;color:#bbb;">&ndash;SJ<font style="color:#f90;">+</font></span> 17:11, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

:::A lot of the NY state place entries were generated by some automated means from US Census data. I was looking at some of these entries. It doesn't make much sense to refer to a town as "north of Albany" when it is more than a hundred miles away. There is almost certainly a better way to do what I've been doing today. --Pleasantville (talk) 17:17, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

2010 Census
I just wanted to suggest that you probably dont need to drop the census comment on all the state projects But California, Wisonsin, Texas, Virginia, DC and Maryland are all pretty active as is Hawaii. Also if you drop it on the pages for National Register of Historic Places and Us roads they are both very active and have several articles each were this data may apply. --Kumioko (talk) 21:04, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:13, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Computational X has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Potential concerns include (1) lack of clearly-defined scope beyond an assortment of fields which have "computational" in the name, (2) not clearly distinguished from other more precise realizations of the idea including big data, informatics, and computational thinking, (3) lack of strong references supporting that this meets notability. See discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computer science#Computational X

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

I understand what you were going for, but the article is very short and ill-defined at present and I just don't think it merits its own page. Comments welcome! Caleb Stanford (talk) 19:17, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:KathrynCramer.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:KathrynCramer.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

 • make a note permitting reuse under the CC BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
 • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add permission pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 11:48, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
