Victor Jara was seen in life September 15 and was found dead September 16, which I believe should therefore be counted as date of death. Md2perpe (talk) 19:25, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

How come it's not mentioned that Victor Jara was a member of the communist party?
Victor Jara should be better related to the Parra family.See
The link to Scandinavia is through Arja Saijonmaa who made a famous recording of Vileto Parra: Gracias a la vida. She was elected representative to the Swedish Parliament, and sung this in Jacob Palme's funeral. But her flat-mate for many years was a Norwegian published, that put her in touch with the Lillebjørn Nilsen and other Scandinavian artists. Sweden and Scandinavia received very many refugees from Chile, providing her with talented musicians. Arja Saijonmaa should be included in the references, but I do not know how! == Songs about Victor Jara ==
He was a card carrying member!

I've noticed that the list of songs about Victor Jara is not the same in English and in French. I can mention Jean-Francois Lessard, a singer from Canada (Quebec Province) who have a song named Victor (see iTunes). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.23.15.42 (talk) 01:30, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

It is possible that the person who created the article was unaware of Victor's Communist Party membership. It is also possible that whoever created the article didn't want that to be mentioned because some people(including, perhaps, Akneton) would argue that it would automatically bias the reader against Victor Jara, and thus be POV.

reflist-talk
The truth is that, while Victor did hold membership in that party, he never allowed himself to be bound by its line as an artist and a political activist.
And the other thing that must be born in mind is that Chile's Communist Party was and is a legal and legitimate political organization that always worked within constitutional boundaries while Chile remained under democratic rule. It used some other methods when it was engaged in antifascist resistance to the Pinochet junta. But being a Chilean Communist was never the same thing as, for example, being an East German Communist.

staged a coup with the help of the U.S. through the Chilean military. This is incorrect and should be removed. Read U.S._intervention_in_Chile#1973_coup and here 1973 Chilean coup d'état, these contradict Hitchen's and are well sourced and well written pages. There is no proof the US directly helped in the coup. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 09:27, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Who deleted the picture of Victor Jara's Grave and asked for references to citations? The picture was contributed fairly and references are provided as the book of Joan Turner Jara: An Unfinished Song.

::It is incorrect as I have clearly shown by linking to the actual pages on the subject which are well written and sourced. These entire pages contradict this source.

The Trial of Henry Kissinger may be a reliable source on Kissinger but it is probably not regarding the Chilean coup. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 10:30, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
The information on this article is dimly presented and doesn't lend much light on the life of Victor Jara. It probably came from another site (i am sure of it), i think it should be rewritten with a bit more talent. Moreover the other areas of the article about popular culture is kind of just clustered there and doesn't flow well with the article itself. That photograph of Victor Jara's grave is grey and dim and is too big; something smaller would be better. Nothing is mentioned about Jara's theatrical work; his productions and theatre directing etc. No analysis is made of his songs. This article needs A LOT of work.

:::You claiming that it's incorrect does not make it incorrect. If you want to challenge what a source says, you're in your full right to do at this talk page. First of all this article was changed sometime after the complaint was lodged. Regardless though, the treatment of the 11 September coup is still not neutral. Many valid and close sources to Salvador Allende confirmed that he took his own life. Instead of saying he was killed perhaps one could rephrase it as "during the course in which he died."70.241.68.48

It may be impossible to avoid accusations of bias in discussions of the overthrow of the Allende government, given that there are still so many people who passionately denounce the coup and just as many who defend it.

http://www.answers.com/topic/v-ctor-jara-2
My understanding is that the verdict of suicide in Allende's death was issued by the Chilean military coroner. It seems reasonable to doubt the objectivity of this individual, if for no other reason than that he could not issue a ruling on the cause of Allende's death that was in any way unfavorable to the new military regime without putting his own life in danger.

I was told by a Chilean immigrant to the US that Jara had his hands cut off before he was murdered - if someone has an RS for that it would help explain the references. It might only be a commonly held belief; if not the reliable sources are probably in Spanish. Thanks for your attention. It would be more accurate to state that Jara decided to devote the bulk of his creative energies to music rather than theatre, although he remained involved in theatre to some degree for the rest of his life.

Which stadium?
Hello fellow Wikipedians,
Alright, after looking through Wikipedia and other pages via Google I've read conflicting accounts that Jara was killed at Estadio Nacional de Chile (National Stadium) and at Estadio Chile (Chile Stadium). One of these was apparently renamed to Estadio Víctor Jara (Víctor Jara Stadium) and I think it was the latter. The wikipedia article for Estadio Víctor Jara states that that stadium is not Estadio Nacional (and that's actually all it says). However, in the Estadio Nacional article it says that it was the stadium used as a concentration camp in 1973. Perhaps they were both used this way? I don't know. Most of the info I get on Google is in Spanish which I don't speak. Any clarification would be appreciated.--Lairor 08:50, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

I have just modified 4 external links on Víctor Jara. Please take a moment to review my edit. If you have any questions, or need the bot to ignore the links, or the page altogether, please visit this simple FaQ for additional information. I made the following changes:
:This PDF mentions both stadiums, and seems to make it clear that Estadio Chile was renamed. Also, this link clarifies that they were both used as prisons (with mentions of transfers, etc). Hope this helps. Change of date of death

[edit]

Victor Jara was seen in life September 15 and was found dead September 16, which I believe should therefore be counted as date of death. Md2perpe (talk) 19:25, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He was murdered not simply dead --Filippos (talk) 10:58, 22 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Other artists

[edit]

Victor Jara should be better related to the Parra family.See The link to Scandinavia is through Arja Saijonmaa who made a famous recording of Vileto Parra: Gracias a la vida. Songs about Victor Jara

[edit]

I've noticed that the list of songs about Victor Jara is not the same in English and in French. I can mention Jean-Francois Lessard, a singer from Canada (Quebec Province) who have a song named Victor (see iTunes). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.23.15.42 (talk) 01:30, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The american folk (punk) musician, Ryan Harvey, has a song called 'La Pena' from the album 'BlowBack' is about Victor Jara[1]. Also, the swedish punk band Lycka Till has a song called 'Listening to Victor Jara.[2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.82.29.60 (talk) 00:08, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

US backed coup.

[edit]

staged a coup with the help of the U.S. through the Chilean military. This is incorrect and should be removed. Read U.S._intervention_in_Chile#1973_coup and here 1973 Chilean coup d'état, these contradict Hitchen's and are well sourced and well written pages. There is no proof the US directly helped in the coup. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 09:27, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That content is well-sourced using WP:RS.Jeppiz (talk) 10:11, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is incorrect as I have clearly shown by linking to the actual pages on the subject which are well written and sourced. These entire pages contradict this source.

The Trial of Henry Kissinger may be a reliable source on Kissinger but it is probably not regarding the Chilean coup. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 10:30, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You claiming that it's incorrect does not make it incorrect. If you want to challenge what a source says, you're in your full right to do at this talk page. However, you have not "clearly shown" anything, you have quite simply removed sourced content [1], [2].Jeppiz (talk) 10:59, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Read U.S._intervention_in_Chile#1973_coup and here 1973 Chilean coup d'état. They show that Hitchen's assertion is incorrect that the US directly helped. These pages are better sources on the coup d'etat. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 11:05, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
First, please indent your comments. And I read those articles, I would not say they are better sourced. They rely on surprisingly few sources.Jeppiz (talk) 11:13, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
They are certainly better sources on the Chilean coup than Hitchen's kissinger book. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 11:16, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would not say that, no. Not necessarily worse, but not better either. Nothing decisive there that would justify throwing out the source here.Jeppiz (talk) 11:20, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple references to "hands", no explanation

[edit]

I was told by a Chilean immigrant to the US that Jara had his hands cut off before he was murdered - if someone has an RS for that it would help explain the references. It might only be a commonly held belief; if not the reliable sources are probably in Spanish. Thanks for your attention. The most effectual Bob Cat (talk) 01:32, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Even though Diario Libre publisheg article noting that Barrientos will be deported rather than extradition, they also repeatedly note that EFE wrote it without issue

[edit]

Doesn't seem likely a copyright issue. They never hide EFE references and even claim "explained to EFE." [3].Speakfor23 (talk) 05:36, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
