i am related to the co-creators of this show, Andy Borowitz, and Susan Borowitz, and from everything that they told me, Carlton was NOT Bi-curious, not at all. Hi Everyone! Is the "Banks" mansion really existing in bel-air? If it is, I'd like to know where! If I remember right, in one episode Carlton is saying, that their house is next to the Spelling Mansion. In an another season Hilary is saying that their adress is 8225, St. Claire's road. Correct me if I'm wrong! Now I've found with Google Earth the Aaron Spelling mansion, but can't find anywhere near by the so called Banks's house. Please, if anyone is so deep into this like me, or is just an all-knowing fan, help me through this! :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.183.108.41 (talk) 01:05, 27 February 2007 (UTC). |

|||
Hmmmmm this might be alright. |
|||
Is Sugarhill Gang's "Apache" is listed as a running gag, but has it actually appeared in more than one episode? Everyone remembers the Vegas episode but (aside from the clip show) I don't remember hearing it again. Pumpkingrrl 04:43, 5 March 2007 (UTC) |
|||
But wait I hear the pricey booze, wine all that |
|||
There is another episode which contains this song. I don't know the titel of it, but it is the "blooper show" of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. At the end of the episode there is a scene where the whole crew (incuding the people who are working behind the scenes) is together. Then while this song is played Will, Carlton (and Nicky) are doing their famous dance and everybody's having a "party". Before that whole thing Will says something about that for 6 years they always get together before the show starts. |
|||
Is Bel-Air the type of place they send this cool cat? |
|||
Propably that's why that song is listed as a running gag. |
|||
Does that really count as a running gag, though? Pumpkingrrl 05:56, 6 March 2007 (UTC) |
|||
I don't think sow |
|||
I don't know, because for the viewer it isn't really a so called running gag, beacuse Will refers only once to that in the blooper show, but for the crew, who prepared before every single show by playing that song and having a little party to it, it is. |
|||
I'll see when I get there |
|||
If that counts as a running gag, then the whole deal with them getting in a circle and joining hands before the show would count as a running gag too, even though it's not articulated on the show in any way. Pumpkingrrl 23:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC) |

No. A running gag is a form of comedy in which something is made funny by its reoccurrence several times. For example, if Will tries to fight someone multiple times, and he keeps getting beaten up each time, that would be a "running" gag. ~ Hyuugamoto (talk) 01:46, 28 April 2008 (UTC) |

Just asking. Why does "The Fresh Prince" redirect to the page for the show? It's Will Smith's stage name when he performs with Jazzy Jeff, so shouldn't it redirect to him? Goten X (talk) 22:58, 7 June 2008 (UTC) |
|||
:I believe it should redirect to the disambig page which offers both, and have made the change. Someone looking up Fresh Prince is probably MORE likely to be looking up the show in 2008 than looking up Will Smith TheHYPO (talk) 20:24, 8 June 2008 (UTC) |

::Right. Actually Goten X, a while back I was the one, if I remember correctly who re-redirected Fresh Prince to the show from rather the man. For reasons of likelihood as TheHYPO mentioned. :: And to add on, actually it was for this reason I did so - from my edit summary ("(it does not make good sense to have "Fresh Prince" redirect to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and "The Fresh Prince" to redirect to Will Smith. ==Creator== |

The problem with every single Wikipedia page that talks about this show is that they always get one important thing wrong. As relatives for the CO-creators Susan, and Andy Borowitz, i am offended that it only puts Andy as the creator. Considering Susan Borowitz is legally the Co-Creator, i eould really appreciate it if she was listed as such. This is really important legally. :I don't have the series on DVD or anything, so I can't check. Wikipedia can only list what is cited, so if the credits for the show list someone else, I don't see why they shouldn't be listed here. Can I ask anyone here what relevance the following has in regards to the section about the proposed reboot said to be in discussion by TV networks in America? |

"A reunion of the surviving original cast, The Fresh Prince Reunion, aired on HBO Max in November 2020. Among other reminisces, Janet Hubert appeared, also appearing around this time in a joint radio interview with Smith where the two appeared to reconcile. More information and context were offered regarding the situation between Smith and Hubert and her exit when the two met for their conversation. Hubert discussed the turmoil in her personal life, her abusive marriage, and that she had not actually been fired by the show. She was offered what she described as a "bad deal" to return for the fourth season and she turned it down. Will talked about how his youth and learning to deal with his rapidly increasing fame lead him to make decisions during that time that he now regrets and wishes he had made differently." |

- Why were you trying to find out if Carlton was bi-curious? Did you think you had a shot with him? Here's a hint: once you're full-on bi, like Carlton, you're no longer curious. What happened to Will?
[edit]The article seems to list what happened to all the characters in the season finale except Will, himself. The Banks went to the East Coast, if I'm reading right--does that include Will, and if so, why did he go? - Finished formatting and editing the complete theme song's lyrics. What was there before not only was incomplete (they missed out the very first verse of the song starting with "Now this is a story all about how..." etc.) it also had a number of errors in it (e.g. using "homes" instead of "holmes"). -- Jalabi99 05:57, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Jennifer Holliday?
[edit]Does anyone else think the Jennifer Holliday comment in the running gags section should be removed? I just don't understand how the two incidents are related to each other in kind (to qualify as a running gag), and the setup given in this article is too vague to make the nature of the gag, or why it was funny, clear. Can anyone else make sense of this?
Time to leave it alone
[edit]I've noticed it's been a long time since there has been a significant revision to this article, and the ones that have been made lately have almost always made the thing worse. Perhaps we should call it a day before people end up recounting every episode in the series to make points that don't need to be made (such as the addition about Geoffrey calling Will by his name in the final episode--does anyone think this maks that paragraph, or this article, better than it was?). All of you need to move on to Married... with Children, an article that actually needs help...

He's actually an Academy Award nominated actor. The house is fake dude, it doesnt exist. It was a set. Hope I didnt hurt your feelings. Lex94 03:49, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

- Actually, the house itself exists - a place in the town of Bel-air California. But the inside of course is a tv set. But yes, driving around Bel-air, that house can be seen somewhere. ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 14:53, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Wow, thanks guys! (I started this topic, but I hadnt a username back then). Yes, what I meant was if the house itself exists which is shown a couple of times during the episodes. Of course I know the whole inside was a TV set full of props! I even remember Will saying something in an episode, that they ain't got no money for ceiling :D. Anyway It would be nice driving by someday :) Thanks again Mark Toth (talk) 22:53, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Apache?
[edit]Is Sugarhill Gang's "Apache" is listed as a running gag, but has it actually appeared in more than one episode? Everyone remembers the Vegas episode but (aside from the clip show) I don't remember hearing it again. Pumpkingrrl 04:43, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Propably that's why that song is listed as a running gag.
Does that really count as a running gag, though? Pumpkingrrl 05:56, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't know, because for the viewer it isn't really a so called running gag, beacuse Will refers only once to that in the blooper show, but for the crew, who prepared before every single show by playing that song and having a little party to it, it is.
If that counts as a running gag, then the whole deal with them getting in a circle and joining hands before the show would count as a running gag too, even though it's not articulated on the show in any way. Pumpkingrrl 23:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Summary

== Carlton was in denial on that "Driving While Black" episode because Will assumed that he was from a rich family and wouldn't understand racism. Running Gag
[edit]Isn't a running gag when someone insults will's mom, he tries to fight the person, and he gets beat up? Urena198 17:31, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
No. A running gag is a form of comedy in which something is made funny by its reoccurrence several times. For example, if Will tries to fight someone multiple times, and he keeps getting beaten up each time, that would be a "running" gag. ~ Hyuugamoto (talk) 01:46, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

- That would not be a notable item to put into the article. This is wikipedia, not the show's website. Even in the Saved by the bell article, that probably isn't notable enough to merit putting it in the article ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 14:43, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Slight Edit
[edit]I slightly edited the Running gags section to state that Carlton's dance was in fact from The Dancing in the Dark Video(He admitted it on a VH1 retrospective show[I'm inclined to say I love the 80s since Courtney Cox's clip from the video was shown as he talked about it)]). In any case, I don't have a link for it so if anyone else has access to him saying it for validation, it would be much appreciated. Raven6248 18:48, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
All these lists
[edit]Does this article really need all of this trivia? Some of this can be salvaged (like the issues covered thing), but most of it needs to be deleted or severely reduced. - A Link to the Past (talk) 08:11, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Semi-Protection?
[edit]I don't actually have a need to edit this, but I noticed that I can only "View Source" as it were. It says the article is semi-protected. Why can't this article be edited like all the others? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.232.251.244 (talk) 10:25, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- For probably a variety of reasons, this article is subject to a high amount of vandalism, mostly from unregistered users who abuse wikipedia. It's not to say that everyone does it, but editors constantly have to be fixing minor and major vandalisms. Some vandals even cover their tracks so you have to fix it from scratch rather than by just pressing UNDO. If you enjoy wikipedia, and like improving articles in any way, I suggest you should create an account and join the party. Doing so also would not display your IP address to the whole world. Have a good day, and take care ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 14:34, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Add Trivia Section
[edit]- We should add a trivia section b/c i hav a really good thing to add

Fish out of water
[edit]Since the only reference on the disambiguation page relevant to this article is a link to Wiktionary (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fish_out_of_water) I suggest we edit the "fish out of water" link in the first paragraph to make it external, but being unregistered I cannot do this my self. 129.67.53.232 (talk) 18:11, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Birthday
[edit]- In the episode "Lucky Charm," Will tells one of Philip's business partners that his birthday is 7/3/73. Seven and three, being the businessman's lucky numbers, help contribute to his hiring of Will as his advisor. I may have misheard, but I believe that's his correct birthday. I won't edit the page just yet, however.
- No, it isn't; actors don't necessarily share the same age as the characters they portray. Anthony Rupert (talk) 02:57, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- I believe he means the character's birthday, not the actor's. ChocoRokk (talk) 05:30, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Over enthusiastic
[edit]Thank you guys for this wonderful article, however, it needs to be trimmed down. It sounds like its been written by fans of the sitcom, as it includes plenty of non-encyclopedic content. It's obvious most people on Wikipedia attend to article that interest, but its imperative that you remember this is a encyclopaedia and not an essay on Fresh Prince or a magazine article. --78.86.159.199 (talk) 18:32, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- I disagree, I looked at this article a few months ago and then came on it today to see half of it missing. I think things like Cultural Impact are relevant and not un-encyclopaedic, as they are present on countless other articles on Wikipedia. --Mark PEA (talk) 22:52, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
The Fresh Prince Redirect
[edit]Just asking. Why does "The Fresh Prince" redirect to the page for the show? It's Will Smith's stage name when he performs with Jazzy Jeff, so shouldn't it redirect to him? Goten X (talk) 22:58, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- I believe it should redirect to the disambig page which offers both, and have made the change. Someone looking up Fresh Prince is probably MORE likely to be looking up the show in 2008 than looking up Will Smith TheHYPO (talk) 20:24, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Right. Actually Goten X, a while back I was the one, if I remember correctly who re-redirected Fresh Prince to the show from rather the man. For reasons of likelihood as TheHYPO mentioned. Glad it's all squared away now ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 06:47, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- And to add on, actually it was for this reason I did so - from my edit summary ("(it does not make good sense to have "Fresh Prince" redirect to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and "The Fresh Prince" to redirect to Will Smith. If anything, it should be the other way around) (undo)") ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 06:51, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Creator
[edit]The problem with every single Wikipedia page that talks about this show is that they always get one important thing wrong. As relatives for the CO-creators Susan, and Andy Borowitz, i am offended that it only puts Andy as the creator. Considering Susan Borowitz is legally the Co-Creator, i eould really appreciate it if she was listed as such. This is really important legally. Wagadoogoo (talk) 05:45, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's really NOT important legally. Are you "relatives for the CO-creators" or just stalking them? In either case, go screw. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.171.176.51 (talk) 13:03, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- I don't have the series on DVD or anything, so I can't check. Wikipedia can only list what is cited, so if the credits for the show list someone else, I don't see why they shouldn't be listed here. I really have no idea about the production stuff. But to respond to your point, I don't think there is anything "legally" important about who wikipedia credits. TheHYPO (talk) 09:10, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Weren't the creators either fired or quit because they were "too White"? I recall some rumours about that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.64.69.204 (talk) 06:57, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Internet Relation
[edit]I have noticed that this has become a very popular meme on the internet, may we mention this? - Crazyconan (talk) 20:35, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

page redirect
[edit]Can anyone reason as to why the text "Larry wells" redirects to this page ?
I came across the name Larry Wells at the end of an episode of X-Files ("The Blessing way", season 3, ep. 1). In the ending of the episode you can read:
In Memoriam LARRY WELLS 1946-1995
Kaly J. (talk) 06:10, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- I think it's because that a person by that name was mentioned in the Season 2 pilot. Why this is significant enough to warrant a redirect to this article, however, I don't know. And the person mentioned obviously wasn't the same age as the one you are talking about. I'd remove the redirect if I could, but I don't know how. Tubularbells1993 (talk) 21:18, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
new link to add to the page
[edit]i have found a web page that has alot of the seasons to view online for free. the address is http://www.freshprincetv.com could someone please add this to the page —Preceding unsigned comment added by Taker2313 (talk • contribs) 19:57, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Description of characters
[edit]I'm deleting these. There's no need for them to be in the article about the series, since there's a separate characters' description article which is much more complete. --Jmcalil (talk) 00:52, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- Usually there's some sort of a brief summary about characters in the parent article, even if there is a separate characters article. --Bill (talk|contribs) 17:28, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Semiprotection review
[edit]- 17:16, 29 December 2007 Wizardman protected The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (vandalism [edit=autoconfirmed:move=autoconfirmed])
That was well over 18 months ago, so I'm starting a review to see whether semiprotection of this article is still necessary. As well as welcoming comments from regular editors, I've notified Wizardman, the protecting admin. --TS 06:09, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- I think that protection was back before time limits existed on protection, so it can probably be lifted. Wizardman 00:26, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
comedy drama
[edit]Having a couple of special episodes does not qualify a sitcom to be a comedy-drama. Please fix this.

Erm... plot?
[edit]Why is there no plot section in this article? I can accept that it was episodic, but there should at least be a description, not in the lead, saying what the show is about, and mentioning continuity arcs and recurring themes. I would do something, but I don't think I've ever watched a full episode, let alone the entire series. -mattbuck (Talk) 01:31, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Backstory Section
[edit]This paragraph does not tie together Smith's tax avoision problems with the genesis of the show. Is it arguing that he would not have done the show if he did not need the money for the IRS? That seems dubious. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.170.233 (talk) 15:50, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

Draft:Carlton Banks underway
[edit]I noticed that several version of an article on the character, Carlton Banks, have been deleted for being original research and lacking sources. Information Issue - Planned Reboot
[edit]Can I ask anyone here what relevance the following has in regards to the section about the proposed reboot said to be in discussion by TV networks in America?
"A reunion of the surviving original cast, The Fresh Prince Reunion, aired on HBO Max in November 2020. Among other reminisces, Janet Hubert appeared, also appearing around this time in a joint radio interview with Smith where the two appeared to reconcile. More information and context were offered regarding the situation between Smith and Hubert and her exit when the two met for their conversation. Hubert discussed the turmoil in her personal life, her abusive marriage, and that she had not actually been fired by the show. She was offered what she described as a "bad deal" to return for the fourth season and she turned it down. Will talked about how his youth and learning to deal with his rapidly increasing fame lead him to make decisions during that time that he now regrets and wishes he had made differently."
