I am not surprised about this content. just try and check some of the IPs
as 134.130.4.243 from 21st of July removing the cleanup-tag
The IP belongs to the namespace... zs2.rz.RWTH-Aachen.DE.
Oh what a surprise.
I think it says a lot about the "excellence" of this institution editing their own articles like this...

Oh well, now it reads "RWTH Aachen has achieved international recognition in several fields"! While, yes, there is a citation, however, it just states that this university usually ranks around 250 or 300 worldwide or so. This is not international recognition. In my opinion this article is part of an advertisement campaign.

I came across this article by reading the Wikipedia article on Matlab, where this university is listed next to Nasa for using Matlab. This is ridiculous. --93.129.127.225 (talk) 06:55, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

: This rankings you consider "worldwide" are US-based rankings which are set up in a way Central European universities usually rank way behind the rest because of the parameters used (e.g. incompatible publication lists) and the different understanding of universities in the Anglo-Saxon and the Central European scholar system. Being one of the five members of IDEA League among Imperial College, TU Delft, ETH Zurich and ParisTech and one of the nine best technical schools in Germany, arguably the most innovative country in mechanical engineering, speaks much more than whatever American college ranking. However, I agree the phrasing of this entry must be reconsidered leading to a modest and citable encyclopedic article. --VonFernSeher (talk) 04:01, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Maybe a little too much?

[edit]
 • Aachen University is one of the most prestigious universities in Germany and one of the leading technology universities in Europe.
 • Aachen University is internationally renowned for its excellence in engineering education and enjoys a high reputation within German, European and Asian industry.
 • Graduates of the RWTH are well regarded in industry and national rankings and international surveys underline the reputation of graduates having the considerable ability to tackle complex challenges, work successfully in problem-solving teams and display leadership qualities.
 • According to a survey, every fourth graduate in Germany with a Doctorate in Engineering (known as a Dr.-Ing. in Germany, a standardised qualification, roughly equivalent to a PhD) comes from Aachen
 • Every fourth board member in German corporations is a graduate of the RWTH Aachen University.

Those claims should be attributed to a reliable source. I would also discourage using peacock terms like "most prestigious" (I have no doubt you are, but it's simply not encyclopedic). You may write like "...is a designated flagship institution of the German higher education system" and cite a paper on the excellence initiative as a source. You ought to have a look at the articles about Caltech, MIT, ETH and Imperial College, as they don't show off like this, but are much more comprehensive instead. 88.66.58.245 (talk) 12:32, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have a valid point there. I'll try to come up with some citations once I have the time to browse the Web. Meanwhile, the first citation you quote as problematic, namely:
Aachen University is one of the most prestigious universities in Germany and one of the leading technology universities in Europe.
is a direct quote from the IDEA League's own website:
RWTH Aachen is one of Europe’s leading technology institutions renowned for its standard of education and research.
source
Now, one might argue that the organization's own website is not the best source since it automatically takes a biased/subjective approach. However, I don't believe it to constitute a violation of WP:RS.
As for the other citations, I'll try to do some research in the near future. Vargher (talk) 14:04, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
