Africans in London or England?

It might be interesting to mention that Africans had been brought to England/Scotland long before the 1600s and had already integrated into society. The Romans brought a garrison of Africans to help fight at Hadrian's Wall and then left them there. They might have also been used to mine resources.

Likely mistyping

Google finds South bark bridge only in this article. Should bark be bank? Though what does South bank bridge mean? The title isn't great to start with. 'History of black people in London' might be better or 'Black immigration to London'. The first line could do with expanding a bit. --Lopakhin (talk) 10:54, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

400 not 4,000

"In 1787 4,000 Blacks were transported from London for resettlement to the colony of Sierra Leone with help from the Committee for the Relief of the Black Poor."

Just cross checked this with the wiki page on the Committee for the Relief of the Black Poor.

The correct number would appear to be 400 not 4,000. Moreover the word 'transported' is misleading since it implies forced removal. The resettlement in Sierra Leone was voluntary.

The sentence would better read:

"In 1787 around 400 poor blacks from London were voluntarily resettled in the colony of Sierra Leone with help from the Committee for the Relief of the Black Poor." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.150.38.110 (talk) 11:13, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Agreed, I came to fix an ISBN error with the previous reference, but it looked like it had nothing to do with the topic, and had no page number. I've replaced it with a verifiable journal article where it says 441 left London. A different number left Plymouth, and unfortunately a very different number arrived in Sierra Leone. AH crap, I just spent a couple of hours researching, updating and citing, before realizing that this page should probably be flagged for deletion in favour of Black British People which captures the history much more thoroughly anyway.
