it wasn't a bootleg, it was a single, but it wasn't released by Oasis. it was released by some other record company, presumably whoever held the rights to the interview. it was the highest charting interview single in history.83.147.134.22 (talk) 18:49, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Singles Box Sets?
As cited and referenced on the corresponding website of UK chart stats, a silver singles box of Definitely Maybe singles and a gold singles box of Morning Glory singles were both released as box sets in November 1996 in the UK and charted at 23 and 24 in the UK respectively. This should obviously pose the question...why arent they mentioned or listed on the discography page?

Okay, I remember seeing this as a model for discographies a long while ago, but I forget what WikiProject/Portal i linked from. Anyway, this is a very detailed and comprehensive article, and I feel it should be recognized. How about even going for a GA rating? I think it's worthy, other than the fact that there are barely any citations for sales figures. I notice that a number of the sales figures and certifications for certain albums on this page are listed differently in different sections e.g. is definitely maybe 7 or 8 times platinum? this is also the case for stop the clocks and morning glory. == Music download release format ==

I have changed the music download release format to read "DL" instead of "download". I believe this makes it look a lot tidier, and fits in with the rest of the formats, thus producing continuity. Please discuss whether you support or oppose this move by leaving a comment saying "Support" or "Oppose", with comments. Thanks. ==Some Chart Positions Incorrect==
I have edited the Irish album positions as they were all #1 except Dig out Your Soul and Stop the Clocks. The website which is cited only takes into account re-entries of the early albums since 2000 onwards hence it says Definitley Maybe charted quite low. I have not found another website yet for the reference to say DM and WTSMG and BNH were all #1 in Ireland but that is correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheWulf (talk • contribs) 17:38, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
:Surely if the reissues charted it still counts? It is the same album. What you're saying would mean putting the album twice in studio albums, which... no. Andre666 (talk) 18:31, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

What i mean is the website information is for post 2000 only. Therefore the peak position of DM, WTSMG and BNH was not that position in the post 2000 era. Those albums all peaked at #1 but the website only takes into account post 2000 chart positions. Thats why i changed the positions to thier peak of #1. I'm on the prowl for a site or a book which states this so i can reference them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheWulf (talk • contribs) 21:46, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Why is it under Extended Play? Definitely isn't one, it was released as a single. I've removed it but the Extended Play section has moved to the Singles section. Should the BPI's sales certifications on Oasis' VHS/DVD releases be included on this page? They are official and seem entirely relevant. == A few things missing - Promo CDs ==
Hi everyone. I have collected, over the years, a few bits and bobs that have come free in Newspapers and music magazines (to be more detailed, NME). These are a few promos in these publications that are not mentioned in the list:
*Heathen Chemistry EP (2002): Free in The Sunday Times. Released a little while before the album of the same name and is almost a promo for the album, containing a few of the songs on the album, 'Hello', and some live performances.
*Don't Believe the Truth EP (2005): Free in the Daily Mirror. Released a little while before the album of the same name, and like the Heathen Chemistry EPs, it contains a few songs on the album, a few older songs, and some live performances.
*Oasis on the Road: World Tour 2005 (2005): Although not really much of an Oasis album, this came free with the NME in 2005 and is compiled by Oasis and the songs on the album are that of bands that supported them in the World Tour 2005, along with Oasis' only live cover of "My Generation".
*Dig Out Your Soul Songbook (2008): Technically, this is a CD-Rom, but we have DVDs listed so why can't we add this. This came free in the NME and contains a CD-Rom with a few things about the album, and a songbook for the songs 'Bag It Up', 'The Turning' and '(Get Off Your) High Horse'...

Well, that was a breath full but it's all over know. What do you think?--77.99.231.37 (talk) 17:50, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

U.S. Alternative Songs chart positions added
Regarding the U.S. music charts, the Billboard Hot 100 does not fully illustrate the impact that Oasis made during the 1990s and early 2000s, so I've added the Billboard Alternative Songs chart positions as well to better illustrate it. Even though only a handful of their songs received radio airplay on pop stations in the U.S., many of their songs were staples on alternative stations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.81.96.210 (talk) 17:20, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

US chart positions are very confusing !
Overall the chart positions for US charts mention THE HOT 100 but here we see positions with quotes like Alternative Songs and Pop songs

thats not nice

if some looks at some positions like # 108 in the us charts and then for champagne supernova (#20) thats not comparable,.
Because one is HOT 100 the other alternative songs

Thats confusing
OASIS never had been a us hot 100 topping band. Although they sold millions of albums but they had 3 hot 100 entries. thats nothing special most british bands have this problem.

MTV Unplugged
Is there a reason the MTV Unplugged album is not listed? Laned130 (talk) 07:29, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

I've got a copy of the album that I ripped from CD years ago (which I no longer have). My track list is the same as the one in this YouTube video:
# Hello
# Some Might Say
# Listen Up
# Live Forever
# The Masterplan
# Don't Look Back In Anger
# Talk Tonight
# Morning Glory
# Round Are Way
# Cast No Shadow
# Whatever
# Wonderwall
My research so far:
* The show is mentioned on Wikipedia here Noel_Gallagher#Liam_Gallagher, but the resulting album is not here List_of_MTV_series_albums.
* It's on Amazon, but not currently available.
* There are MTV articles here, here, and here.
* Last.fm have two album listings, here and here, but both their track lists are different from mine.
* Discogs have details of an Oasis MTV Unplugged & More album, with the same track listings as that first last.fm album.
* The Official_Charts_Company don't mention it under the list of Oasis albums here.

I hope someone can take this research further, and get enough details to list it in the article. --Laned130 (talk) 15:55, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Worldwide album sales

[edit]

Oasis sold aproximately 49 million copies from their studio albums by July 2006. Stop the Clocks have sold 2 million not 1,1

thats true..that stop the clocks sales make no sense in any way...alone in uk it sold more than 1 million, in japan it solb almost 250 thousand...waht a bullshit...sorry,but its just rubbish that 1.1 mio..so the low sales from morning glory are...come on : alone in europe mg sold over 7 mio, in usa it sold 5 mio until now, in canada it sold 0.8 mio(as far as i know), in australia 0.4 mio...so the rest of the world is just 1.8 mio??? ridiculous

* They did no such thing. Their own official website (which if anything will exaggerate their sales) states that they sold less that 40 million by July 2006, and with an extra 2 mill from Stop The Clocks, that would bring their total up to about the 40 mill mark by 2007 (give or take a mill).

Furthermore, it is NOT POSSIBLE for "Whats The Story" to have sold 20 million copies worldwide, and to suggest that it has is blatant and deliberate misinformation and an abuse of Wikipedia.

Please note that Wikipedia is NOT a fan website, although fans are, of course, more than welcome to post information on it. However, they should remember that it is an online encyclopedia and has to maintain unbiased and informative content, and all information has to be verifiable from RELIABLE sources (i.e. - not fan websites or fans' own wishful thinking). If users persist in posting deliberately false information on Wikipedia pages, they will have their accounts and/or IP numbers blocked permanently.

thats weird: Don! t believe the truth sold 400 thousand copies in us??? last what ive heard was about 190 thousand.....?????

Morning glory sold 40 millions?

[edit]

[1]

It says: Second album, What's The Story, (Morning Glory), from which several of the tracks here are drawn, remains the highest ever certified album at 14 x platinum whilst their combined album sales total close to, a remarkable 40 million sales worldwide.

I still have doubts about it, so I won't edit the page yet...

 • They mean that their combined album sales (of ALL of their albums together) have sold just close to 40 million worldwide.
 • I find it difficult to believe "Whats The Story" has sold 20 million copies worldwide. It has sold 4m in the US and 4.2m in the UK...it is extremely unlikely it could have sold another 11 million elsewhere. A credible citation should be added for such a claim (and I dont mean one from some biased Oasis fansite).
 • Actually, the worldwide total for "Whats The Story" comes to just over 11 million based on the international sales figures included on the main page, which will now likely be in the region of 12 million when accounting for more recent sales since those figures were last updated. Some idiot probably made it up to 20 million mistakenly thinking that UK platinum sales equal 1 million, when in fact it is only 300,000 for a UK platinum disc. Their total album sales will probably come to just over 40 million though. It's a lot, but hardly Michael Jackson.

its rumoured, thriller has sold 60 mio til nowadays, but from where do you think, comes the other half of the sales(besides 30 mio in us, perhaps less) from all around the world..? is that impossible, too?? why shpuld that be impossible that sales of mg are close to 20 mio or even more? of course there are countries or even whole continent which cannot be included in terms of sales(africa), but there is more in this world than just uk an us

Sibling rivalry?

[edit]

Should Sibling rivalry be on this page?SimonFromLids 08:49, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're thinking of "Wibbling Rivalry". I'm not too sure about mentioning coz if I remeber correctly it is a bootleg. However, if is a very high-profile, significant and well-known bootleg so I'm not sure.--Crestville 15:18, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

it wasn't a bootleg, it was a single, but it wasn't released by Oasis. it was released by some other record company, presumably whoever held the rights to the interview. it was the highest charting interview single in history.83.147.134.22 (talk) 18:49, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Singles Box Sets?

[edit]

As cited and referenced on the corresponding website [2] of UK chart stats, a silver singles box of Definitely Maybe singles and a gold singles box of Morning Glory singles were both released as box sets in November 1996 in the UK and charted at 23 and 24 in the UK respectively. This should obviously pose the question...why arent they mentioned or listed on the discography page?

Rating?

[edit]

Okay, I remember seeing this as a model for discographies a long while ago, but I forget what WikiProject/Portal i linked from. Anyway, this is a very detailed and comprehensive article, and I feel it should be recognized. How about even going for a GA rating? I think it's worthy, other than the fact that there are barely any citations for sales figures. What do you guys think? -- Reaper X 19:29, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sales figures too overbloated to be considered maybe.--Play Brian Moore 14:01, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Noel Assessment of Sales

[edit]

Im sure in a newsnight interview Noel said Oasis sold 45 million albums - Might be bloated but hs bank balance may suggest otherwise 3 In top right of page there is a link for interview. Oasis have not sold 50 million albums. But 40 for sure. Including singles Oasis have sold over 50 million records in total as on that BBC programme 'The Gallaghers Millions' it said they have sold 6 million single in UK alone. Im sure another 4 have been sold outside uk as wonderwall is platinum in USA.

accualy Wonderwall is gold in The USA (500,000) and so is Champange Supersnova :)

Discrepancy in Sales Figures/Certifications

[edit]

I notice that a number of the sales figures and certifications for certain albums on this page are listed differently in different sections e.g. is definitely maybe 7 or 8 times platinum? this is also the case for stop the clocks and morning glory. Perhaps a keen and honest fan could sort these? this is quite obvious as i noticed this on a casual reading of the page so there may be more besides these —Preceding unsigned comment added by Spicefunk (talkcontribs) 22:57, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, IP address user's often change all the sales figures upwards and during the edit wars that follow, snipets of mistakes get left in the article. Some Chart Positions Incorrect

[edit]

I have edited the Irish album positions as they were all #1 except Dig out Your Soul and Stop the Clocks. The website which is cited only takes into account re-entries of the early albums since 2000 onwards hence it says Definitley Maybe charted quite low. I have not found another website yet for the reference to say DM and WTSMG and BNH were all #1 in Ireland but that is correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheWulf (talkcontribs) 17:38, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Surely if the reissues charted it still counts? It is the same album. What you're saying would mean putting the album twice in studio albums, which... no. Andre666 (talk) 18:31, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

—Preceding unsigned comment added by TheWulf (talkcontribs) 21:46, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A few things missing - Promo CDs

[edit]

Hi everyone. I have collected, over the years, a few bits and bobs that have come free in Newspapers and music magazines (to be more detailed, NME). These are a few promos in these publications that are not mentioned in the list:

 • Heathen Chemistry EP (2002): Free in The Sunday Times. Released a little while before the album of the same name and is almost a promo for the album, containing a few of the songs on the album, 'Hello', and some live performances.
 • Don't Believe the Truth EP (2005): Free in the Daily Mirror. Released a little while before the album of the same name, and like the Heathen Chemistry EPs, it contains a few songs on the album, a few older songs, and some live performances.
 • Oasis on the Road: World Tour 2005 (2005): Although not really much of an Oasis album, this came free with the NME in 2005 and is compiled by Oasis and the songs on the album are that of bands that supported them in the World Tour 2005, along with Oasis' only live cover of "My Generation".
 • Dig Out Your Soul Songbook (2008): Technically, this is a CD-Rom, but we have DVDs listed so why can't we add this. This came free in the NME and contains a CD-Rom with a few things about the album, and a songbook for the songs 'Bag It Up', 'The Turning' and '(Get Off Your) High Horse'...

Well, that was a breath full but it's all over know. What do you think?--77.99.231.37 (talk) 17:50, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

U.S. Alternative Songs chart positions added

[edit]

Regarding the U.S. music charts, the Billboard Hot 100 does not fully illustrate the impact that Oasis made during the 1990s and early 2000s, so I've added the Billboard Alternative Songs chart positions as well to better illustrate it. Even though only a handful of their songs received radio airplay on pop stations in the U.S., many of their songs were staples on alternative stations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.81.96.210 (talk) 17:20, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

US chart positions are very confusing !

[edit]

Overall the chart positions for US charts mention THE HOT 100 but here we see positions with quotes like Alternative Songs and Pop songs

thats not nice

if some looks at some positions like # 108 in the us charts and then for champagne supernova (#20) thats not comparable,. Because one is HOT 100 the other alternative songs

Thats confusing OASIS never had been a us hot 100 topping band. Although they sold millions of albums but they had 3 hot 100 entries. thats nothing special most british bands have this problem.

Please change that — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.111.57.236 (talk) 11:02, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
