This article (along with other the articles in its series) does not strike me as being particularly noteworthy. I have already proposed Fifth grade for deletion, and will most likely propose this one for deletion as well should the deletion of fifth grade go through. == Dubious ==

I've added this section to the TalkPage, since I flagged one or more unreferenced details with the {Dubiopus} tag. For example, in the U.S. "Junior High" is either 8th & 9th Grades &mdash;making the Eighth Grade the first of that level&mdash; or is 7th/8th/9th grades &mdash;making the 8th the second of that level&mdash; <b>not</b> the "second and final grade of junior high"'. &mdash;&nbsp;DennisDallas (talk) 12:48, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
*That's not true. Many California junior high schools are 7th & 8th grades. Last I checked, California was still part of the United States. OCNative (talk) 08:31, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Is this article necessary?
Why are there articles for each grade? Shouldn't there really be just a single consolidated article about the US grade system, to which all grade references refer? Seems to me this would cut out a lot of duplication.Gymnophoria (talk) 20:09, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Proposed merge with Year Eight
Much of the content about the specific countries is already covered in the eighth grade article. There is no reason why they should be separate, even if they have a separate name. "Year 8" is mentioned in the eighth grade article and that is a more complete article. For not all the countries in the eighth grade article are called "eighth grade" either. - <big>C</big><small>HAMPION</small> (talk) (contributions) (logs) 04:36, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

:The problem with this confusing merge is that the most common use of "Year eight" does not correspond with the most common use of "Eighth grade". It would be better to redirect each number to a general article where the system is explained. 70.17.206.250's edit to this article

[edit]

Can anyone check to see whether 70.17.206.250's edit is currently correct?? Georgia guy 21:18, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

 • While a survey of the grade designations and divisions of the 50 states would be valuable, it is not currently readily available afaik. The assessment by the anon reflects my understanding as well. I do not think the article (or those of the other grades) would be improved by an exhaustive list of how the grade is designated and organized in each state. - Keith D. Grade 8 is high school in someplaces

[edit]

Where I live in Surrey BC, grade 8 is the first grade in secondary "high" schools, well atlest at my school, I do think it's different around Canada. The page should be changed to show that. Windscar77 00:07, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"and many other nations"?

[edit]

From what is featured in the article it would seem that only one other nation, Canada, uses the term 'eighth grade'. Should this not be removed from the article's first line?86.16.139.140 (talk) 22:11, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

This article (along with other the articles in its series) does not strike me as being particularly noteworthy. I have already proposed Fifth grade for deletion, and will most likely propose this one for deletion as well should the deletion of fifth grade go through. Proposed merge with Year Eight

[edit]

Much of the content about the specific countries is already covered in the eighth grade article. There is no reason why they should be separate, even if they have a separate name. "Year 8" is mentioned in the eighth grade article and that is a more complete article. For not all the countries in the eighth grade article are called "eighth grade" either. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 04:36, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with this confusing merge is that the most common use of "Year eight" does not correspond with the most common use of "Eighth grade". It would be better to redirect each number to a general article where the system is explained. Dbfirs 06:46, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
