However, in last 5 years or so, technological innovations have lead to an explosion of "actinography" type devices or capabilities; i.e., "wearables" (fitness trackers, such as Fitbit, UP, etc.) and also non-worn (iPhone 5S at later, etc.) devices with existing accelorameters. This article does not address any of the mass-market penetration / cross-over of these personal devices into the realm of actinography. Would perhaps be a useful subtopic to be added OR (more probably) linked to existing Wikipedia articles on them. I haven't had time to look into such; I'll try to look at it if I find time. Or, I would encourage anyone else interested to take a stab at it. Cynthisa (talk) 17:35, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

In the mean time, the last 5 years have resulted in an explosion of research being published on the usefulness of modern actinography and its use/validity for various diagnostic purposes. This would be another fruitful area for expanding the article (or linking to other articles that already address these issues, say Sleep Studies, for example?) Again, I just haven't had time to research these issues. Cynthisa (talk) 17:35, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

I agree, I also think that either this article should cover the wearables, or there should be a separate article linked from here (I don't have an opinion on which of those two actions would be preferable).

I created a new section "Consumer Electronics Devices" for this purpose. I'm not very familiar with the field so I only added one sentence for now. My sentence was removed earlier so it seems like some editors don't think consumer wearables should be covered... if so it might help if they explained why here. Revise/expand article to reflect boom in wearables?

[edit]

Cynthisa (talk) 17:35, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merging

[edit]

IMO, Actigraph should be merged into this article, Actigraphy, with Actigraph redirecting to Actigraphy. Then Actimetry should redirect to Actigraphy. Actigraphy is the term used in the US, see: http://www.aasmnet.org/Resources/PracticeParameters/PP_Actigraphy_Circ.pdf , while it's possible that actimetry is used in Canada(?). --Hordaland (talk) 22:54, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since at least one of these articles has been marked for merge for a half a year with little discussion, I've now done the merge as suggested above.
Actigraphy is the process, the method, similar to Polysomnography; polysomnograph redirects to polysomnography. Explanations / descriptions of the method, its reasons and uses, and the device used all fit nicely within this article. --Hordaland (talk) 02:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
