This article should have some content about how offshore rigs measure their height relative to the datum, particularly pre- and post- GPS. [[Special:Contributions/124.47.132.132|124.47.132.132]] ([[User talk:124.47.132.132|talk]]) 04:20, 31 October 2013 (UTC) |

Problems
[edit]I am the author of the original article on its original WWW location www.feswa.org. A committee of members of the FESWA non-profit professional organisation decided in 2006 to migrate the effort under which this article and others were written, to Wikipedia, to share it with the world and invite the world to contribute. We are leading an effort to develop a practical knowledge base for the discipline of formation evaluation, using Wikipedia as a platform. As it matures on Wikipedia, the corresponding content will be removed from the FESWA website (which I am also the webmaster for) and replaced by a reference to Wikipedia. I am also the author of the figures and am sharing them under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License. For these reasons I submit that this page, and others like it also visible on the [FESWA website:http://www.feswa.org] should be kept live on Wikipedia. Thank you. Meranti 09:38, 11 February 2007 (UTC) 11-Feb-2007.
- First of all, welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. The problem with this article is that, as it appears right now, it violates the guidelines specified in What Wikipedia is not, which is official policy. Specifically, it violates the section "Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information" as it appears to be part of a "frequently asked questions" guide, and an instruction manual. If you can clean up the article according to wikipedia style guidelines, and provide information, with credible sources, that does not violate WP:NOT, I suggest you do so soon. Jhinman 09:47, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for this prompt reply Jhinman. We have reviewed thoroughly, as a committee, whether what we were undertaking were consistent with the Wikipedia policies and concluded, based on a strict interpretation of these as well as numerous examples of existing content, that it fell squarely into what Wikipedia stands for. Specifically, we are building the momentum to create a wikiportal similar to the Mathematics one. Our approach is as follows (remember that this is the work of a committee whose expertise is in Formation Evaluation, not in Wikiscience): 1. start with a Wikiproject on Formation Evaluation 2. integrate a few of our fundamental articles (the one we are discussing now is axiomatic rather than "indiscriminate") and as many relevant existing articles as we can 3. once we agree on a flexible, futureproof structure for the Wikiproject front page, turn it into a Wikiportal and inform the rest of the international Formation Evaluation community through international magazines and professional events. I already spoke at an international event on this in November 2006 in Perth, WA, and got audience buy-in. More details available upon request. 4. the involvement of the committee in the event mentioned in (3) above slowed a bit our plan described in (2) above but as 2007 begins we are resuming in earnest with a new committee of more IT-savvy people. Hence once again I submit that far from infringing the Wikipedia guidelines, our project falls squarely into what Wikipedia is - although I recognize that we still have some progress to construct wikipages that are fully compliant. For this, we appreciate the advice of the Wikicommunity. Once again, the content of this page and a few others which I would like to re-post soon, is our own words, our own work of synthesis, but it is fully-referenced in the article itself. I shall be grateful for further advice. Meranti 14:58, 28 June 2007 (UTC) Other internet instance of this article has now been removed, making this the only instance. Should close the issue.
