Two music videos were made for the song one being for the American market,other being for the UK.{{Citation needed|date= November 2011}} It was the second single, and biggest hit, to be taken from the [[''I, Assassin'']] album, reaching number nine in the [[UK Singles Chart]]. A different version of the song (known as the Early Version) is available as a bonus track on the 12" single (and subsequently on reissues of the album on CD) this early version was recorded in 1981 as part of early sessions for the album, ''I, Assassin''. There is also another early version, which was discovered on the studio [[master tapes]] when [[Beggars Banquet Records]] remastered the album in 1999, this has never been released. The extended version features a lengthy [[fretless bass]] solo by [[Pino Palladino]].


The song was written about an ex-girlfriend of Numan's at the time called Debbie. According to his biography, she was at a club with her sister and it was inevitable that he would fancy one of them. Either would then charm him into getting romantically involved before selling their story about him to the press.{{cn|date=January 2024}}

"We Take Mystery (To Bed)" is a song written and recorded by the English new wave musician Gary Numan, the second single released from his fourth solo studio album, I, Assassin (1982).
