Need to research, I believe the California Column did not travel along the entire Butterfield Stage route From Yuma AZ to El Paso TX as a single unit of 1500 to 2800 men and supplies. It moved in smaller groups. The [[Capture_of_Tucson_(1862)]] happened on 20 May 1862. Advanced elements of the Column reached the abandoned Fort Thorn on the Rio Grand on 4 July 1862. The Apache Pass battle was on 24 July and involved 140 men of two companies of the California Column.
