Merger with PPC worldwide
[edit]The Belden Inc. article and the PPC worldwide article are both very short and barely sourced. Considering that Belden purchased PPC in 2012, I recommend that the PPC worldwide article be merged here. Neelix (talk) 18:23, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit]The Belden article is very short and under sourced. Because Belden has acquired many more companies than are currently listed, I recommend that the following purchases be added to the Acquisitions section:
- In early 2007, Belden purchased Hirschmann, an industrial marketing company focused on industrial automation and networking systems, for $260 million. [1]
- In the summer of 2007, Belden acquired Lumberg Automation, which manufactures connectors used in industrial automation, for an undisclosed price.[2]
- In December 2009, Belden purchased Telecast Fiber Systems, a manufacturer of fiber-optic systems for television broadcast production, for an undisclosed price.[3]
- In late 2010, Belden acquired GarrettCom, an industrial networking products manufacturer, for $52 million.[4]
- In late 2010, Belden purchased Thomas & Betts Corporation, a coax connectivity and communications products company, $78 million.[5]
- In April 2011, Belden expanded its presence in South America with the acquisition of Poliron, a Brazilian cable company for $30 million.[6]
- In September 2011, Belden acquired SCADA, a security solutions provider, and Byres Security, makers of the Tofino brand industrial security solutions, for $7 million. [7]
- In June 2012, Belden acquired Miranda Technologies, a global provider of hardware and software solutions for the broadcast television, cable, satellite and IPTV industries, for $377 million.[8]
- In December 2012, Belden purchased PPC, a developer and manufacturer of connectivity solutions for the broadband service provider market, for $515.7 million.[9]
- In early 2014, Belden acquired Grass Valley, a manufacturer of end-to-end broadcast solutions, for $220 million.[10]
- In early 2015, Belden purchased Tripwire, a company that develops, markets and sells information technology (IT) solutions that provide security and compliance automation, for $710 million.[11]

- This edit does not seem terribly controversial; I have copied and pasted the information you provided into the article. Neelix (talk) 21:06, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Belden's business divisions and product offerings can be expanded from an informational point of view. I recommend adding in their six business divisions and short descriptions to better describe their areas of business including how their acquired companies fit within their business:
Market Solutions (NOTE: this would be a new section above Acquisitions)
Belden’s signal transmission products and solutions serve customers in the industrial, enterprise and broadcast markets[12]. Belden also operates under a variety of brand names in different markets (see Acquisitions section below).
Industrial Connectivity
For industrial automation and on-machine connectivity, Belden’s products assist with signal transmission, data communication and power supply for fieldbus and industrial Ethernet systems in challenging environments. Belden’s industrial connectivity portfolio operates under the Belden, Lumberg Automation, Hirschmann, Poliron and AlphaWire brands.[13]
Industrial IT
Belden provides networking solutions for mission-critical industries, such as oil and gas, power utility, automotive, mining, water and wastewater, and transportation. Through its Hirschmann, Prosoft, GarrettCom and Tofino Security brands, Belden offers wired, wireless and embedded products to design and implement industrial Ethernet infrastructures for industrial networking, data communication and control.[14]
Enterprise Connectivity
Belden provides IP- and legacy-based solutions for connectivity of data centers and commercial buildings, as well as healthcare, education, finance and government facilities. These enterprise connectivity products – such as LAN solutions, building automation and security, and access control – operate under the Belden brand.[15]
Broadcast
Belden provides production, distribution, networking infrastructure and connectivity systems for television broadcast, cable, satellite, IPTV and telecommunications industries through its Grass Valley, PPC and West Penn Wire brands.[16]
Network Security
Belden-owned Tripwire offers information technology solutions for security and compliance automation. Tripwire’s software and hardware products provide organizations control over physical and virtual IT infrastructure. [17]

- Are there any reliable secondary sources that detail Belden's business divisions and product offerings? This seems like an excessive amount of detail if it can only be found in primary sources. Neelix (talk) 20:58, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- There is an award Belden won from an independent survey that details their product lines. I added that source into the top section. There is also an article detailing their network security business platform that I have exchanged for the other source. Outside of press releases, there are not other sources that go into detail on Belden's product and business divisions other than a title mention. Please let me know of any additional suggestions and/or thoughts you may have regarding proper sourcing. MikefromStanding (talk) 22:04, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
