The Coppa Italia-Campionato Italiano is a season-long classification based on all Italian races ranked .1 and .HC, and was conceived by the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) in 2007. The classification is based on a team’s three best-placed riders in each of the qualifying races, with points earned going to an accumulated total.

The winner of the Squadre classification can secure an automatic wild card invitation to the Giro d'Italia, unless they are — as in 2013 - a World Tour team. In the case of the 2013, the Champions, Lampre-Merida are a World Tour team and would therefore receive an automatic invite, the wild card was given to runners up, GW Erco Shimano[1].

Scoring system

[edit]

In a similar system, to that used in the French Road Cycling Cup, team points are awarded by adding the relative positions of the first three team members who cross the line, the team with the lowest number is first, second lowest is second and so-forth.[2]

The points are awarded as follows:[3]

Position Points scored in 2.HC races Points scored in 2.1 races Points scored in 1.HC races Points scored in 1.1 races
1 100 80 40 20
2 95 76 38 19
3 90 72 36 18
20 5 4 2 1
