No merging the two would be incorrect, they are not the same. The Seaforth Highlanders are the 78th and the 72nd.

Seaforths in Canada?

[edit]

I gather that the Canadian Seaforth regiments are offshoots of the original, but I don't know more. Dropped by here to see if there was something on the Canadians, as I'm prepping a start-article for the Seaforth Armoury in Vancouver (right next to the south end of the Burrard Bridge...next to the brewery, appropriately perhaps....). Anyone know the history of the Canadian regiments, and should they be on a separate page or in a separate section on this one?Skookum1 09:48, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that 1881 would be in the 19th century...

originally raised in the 18th century, as part of the Childers Reforms of the British Army in 1881.

Proposal to Merge Articles

[edit]

Should this article not be merged with 72nd Regiment of Foot as it is essentially the same Regiment? Farawayman (talk) 12:32, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Farawayman, your Revision as of 22:32, 7 October 2009 has muddied the waters. Your addition of the pre-1881 details of the 72nd Highlanders ignores the contribution of the 78th Highlanders to the history of the Seaforth Highlanders and it is therefore not 'essentially the same regiment'. Up until your update of 19th October this page correctly concentrated on the Post-1881 merged regiment. The pre-1881 information on the 72nd Highlanders should be restricted to the 72nd Highlanders page. Brownag (talk) 07:19, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No merging the two would be incorrect, they are not the same. The Seaforth Highlanders are the 78th and the 72nd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.198.92.236 (talk) 06:40, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
