I was looking at Peru national football team and I noticed there is another article just for Most capped and top goalscorers which usually in other articles included at the original article not separated like this. So should we move it to the Peru national football team's article ?also another article for the result since 2005 only.. any suggestions about this one also? thanks Adnan (talk) 23:15, 21 June 2015 (UTC) |

Whoever nominated the article for reassessment seriously needs to learn to look at things before nominating. |

:Most sports articles of this type have a separate article for team records (you can see the entire category here: ). This information is already included in the article for the top 3 scorers and appearances (in the records & statistics section); the tables were seen as unnecessary additions. The results article is incomplete and needs further work. Regards.--<span style="color:olive">MarshalN20</span> <span style="color:maroon;">T</span><span style="color:Silver;">al</span><span style="color:maroon;">k</span> 02:46, 22 June 2015 (UTC) |

1. The GA review is easily located the in the archive of the Peru national football team, at the top of the list. Since certain people apparently are inexperienced at looking at archives, I have now posted the link to the review at this page. |

2. The only problems noted at the FA review were: Improve the writing of the article to meet FA standards, check a few sources that do not have access dates on them, and check the verifiability of a few sources (Which was a completely opinionated request, with the exception of the request to identify Mr. Pulgar-Vidal Otalora's credentials, as the GA review had found them to be acceptable).--[[User:MarshalN20|[|!*//MarshalN20\\*!|]]] (talk) 20:49, 22 June 2009 (UTC) |

Why do all national team articles have as first image a badge? I think it should be of a squad, either current or from a golden era. The badge is a good image for the association, and indeed for Peruvian Football Federation it is the same image. The same problem exists for Scotland national football team, and since these 2 are FAs, all the other team pages are copying. But surely the reader expects to see players wearing the typical kit. So in the case of Peru I recommend we move the 1970 team image from the Colours section up to the top. Has this ever been discussed? : Sorry for the delay in responding to this request: I was travelling. I've added links to the archive from ArticleHistory. I believe the summary page in Wikipedia space can now be deleted. I've given the article a quick copyedit, but see no reason to open a reassessment at this time. As a general tip for future editing, please remember that this is an encyclopedia and avoid portentous use of tenses ("would become" etc.) to describe the narrative past of the subject. :Hi Edwin. All team (club and national) articles use the team badge as the first image. There does exist a Manual of Style for association football articles. Articles for the most part follow a guideline. The appropriate place to discuss changes to the style of articles is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football.--<span style="color:olive">MarshalN20</span> <span style="color:maroon;">T</span><span style="color:Silver;">al</span><span style="color:maroon;">k</span> 14:50, 4 October 2015 (UTC) |

Curious as to why the image of the three managers was removed from the article. Everything seems to be in order. AniRaptor2001 18:08, 13 June 2009 (UTC) |

:It was one of the problems noted in the GA Review. Out of all the non-free images in the article (6 in total), the one with the managers was the most flimsy. It's not really necessary to have non-free images of the managers. However, if there were free images of the managers that could be used, those certainly would be welcomed. I'm planning on nominating the article for FA status in some very close time, so any final fixes to the article are quite welcome.--[[User:MarshalN20|[|!*//MarshalN20\\*!|]]] (talk) 19:17, 13 June 2009 (UTC) |

:::Thanks. The more contributors to the article, the better. I don't think there's much to fix as of right now, except maybe better summarizing some parts. Absolutely no need exists to have the terms "current squad" and "recent call-ups" as sub-section titles in the football team articles. It should be entirely optional for articles to have them or not. The single-purpose account L1ghty insists on reverting the Players' sub-section title from "current" to "current squad". The name could also be changed to "current team" or "current line-up". Again, these are all optional titles. They are not needed because it is already understood that the "current" title indicates players that are in the current iteration of the football team. The user in question has contributed nothing to this article, and instead only seeks to aggravate matters by attempting to engage in a revert war. L1ghty please desist from disruptive editing.--<span style="color:Olive;">MarshalN20</span> <span style="color:maroon;">✉</span>🕊 16:28, 6 December 2017 (UTC) |

According to the records from the RSSSF, Peru only fielded an official senior team at the 1938 competition. The source states: "This was the first and only time that full National Teams for every country took part in this tournament" (). In the following edition, "Only Bolivia and Venezuela fielded their full National Teams." There is no indication that this changed in subsequent editions, until finally it became (officially) a U-17 football tournament.--<b style="color: Olive">MarshalN20</b> ✉🕊 11:15, 3 October 2019 (UTC) |

== Panamerican Championship == |

-The image depicting the 1930s Golden Generation is necessary because it depicts Peru's first "great" team. It is the team that participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, won Peru's first Copa America, and participated in the first FIFA world cup. It is also essentially one of Peru's earlier teams, and thus is necessary in order to depict the history of the team. There is no possible way for a free image to appear of this team (probabilities are too minimal). The only way this image will become "free" is when 100 years have passed (as I recall that's one of the rules for free images) in the year 2030. |
|||
I notice on the Brazil, Argentina, and Chile national football team articles, there is a mention of achievements at the Panamerican Championship, a now-defunct tournament which attempted to create an "Americas-wide championship". Peru finished fourth at the 1952 and 1956 editions. My question is, should it be mentioned in the article or added into the infobox template? |
|||
-The image depicting Juan Seminario scoring a goal against England is the only action picture of the article. Moreover, it is one of the better results of the Peruvian team and is historically important. There is also no possible way for a free image to replace this one as the game itself is rather "forgotten" by many Peruvian fans and English fans alike. The "forgotten" part of it is what makes it that much more important to have it in an encyclopedia such as Wikipedia. |
|||

:That's a good point. I think it should be added into the infobox template. Later than promised, some post-FAC comments on possible improvements. |
|||
*The Peruvian team has an inconsistent history of success. - A team can either have an inconsistent history, or a history of success, but not both. |
|||
*Recently, Peru was the first CONMEBOL team to be knocked out of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers - avoid terms like "recently" which may become out of date. |
|||
*Even though the Peruvian Football Federation had joined CONMEBOL by 1925 - was this in 1925? If so, writing it as "'Even though the Peruvian Football Federation joined CONMEBOL in 1925" would avoid the passive voice. |
|||
*It is worth noting that Argentina and Brazil did not compete in the 1939 Copa America. |
|||
*Putting managerial win percentages to two decimal places is far too precise. Given that most of them managed a number of mathces in single figures, the decimal places are meaningless. |

:I've gone ahead and implemented the first three improvements. ::During the Featured Article Review process, the list of fixtures was removed as there was no standard as to what should be displayed. Users generally only wanted to see results when the team was performing favorably, whereas they removed it when the team was performing unfavorably. Users would also edit war over the date ranges, attempting to display as many favorable results as possible. All of these inconsistencies and disputes are what prompted its removal during the review process. :::It certainly is. I think all of us deserve a big congratulations for the amount of improvement this article has gotten. According to the peer review the article recently received, here's some of the problems: |
|||
#Find a free image of Teofilo Cubillas. The image currently being used apparently is copyrighted and will be removed. |
|||
#Find some book sources that talk about the football team. Try using google books (I'll check it myself in a bit). |
|||
#Fix some wikilinks (too many repetitive ones). For instance, "it would be silly to wikilink silly almost every time you think of something silly." Only one of the wikilinks for the name is needed every now and then (not as repetitive). |
|||
::: But it does provide a standard for the date ranges to be displayed which was highlighted as the original issue. There is no dispute or inconsistency therefore it should be fine to reinstate. Felixsv7 (talk) 08:26, 6 May 2022 (UTC) |

:::: There are other reasons as well. Off the top of my head I remember also accessibility and page size being an issue. I just remember Marcos Calderon for Qualifying World Cup 1966 / Solo recuerdo haber leido que fue Marcos Calderon, en las eliminatorias para Inglaterra '66. (1965). Acabo de editarlo en la lista de Managers, en la version en ibgles. Alguna vez lei una lista mas exacta, pero no recuerdo donde en internet. veo que sale Jaime de Almeyda como Dt en 1963, me imagino que fue para la Copa America de Bolivia (ese equipo era muy aliancista con Bazan,Pitin,Perico, recordar que el Sr De Almeyda entreno ese equipo). Faltaria ver quien fue el tecnico en las eliminatorias de 1961 y creo que ya no habrian mas Managers. Ojo, en 1967 el tecnico aun era Calderon, ya que lei sobre un partido amistoso de mediados del '67 Peru 0 - Uruguay 1, con Alberto Spencer jugando para Uruguay, por ello prefiero poner en la pagina wiki, Marcos Calderon (1965-67) compartiendo esta funcion con la de entrenador de la U, al estilo Guus Hiddink con PSV y Australia hace unos 3 años. En realidad, se que Didí asumio entre Abril a Junio de 1968. Es logico que en intervalo entre Calderon (1967) y Didi no hubiera ningun tecnico. De hecho, en 1967 el Peru no asistio a la Copa America, por ello no hubo motivo para tener un seleccionador. : I've read this page's reviews and Fixtures and Results weren't mentioned. I have also looked at Scotland's process and again, Fixtures and Results weren't mentioned. The template however suggests the inclusion of a brief Fixtures and Results section - which is not a content fork, it is a WP:SPINOUT; giving an excerpt on the main page then the full content on a subpage. Where was it decided that this section shouldn't be included? Can you please link it? ==Copy edit October 2011== |
|||
I've condensed and clarified the text as far as I can, and I have a few points to mention that perhaps more subject-oriented editors could think about. They're not major point, but if you're going for F.A status might be pertinent: |
|||
*Some terms are used interchangeably, particularly 'team' and 'squad', 'draw' and 'tie' and 'match' and 'game'. |
|||
* I removed most of the incidents of "la Blanquirroja" in favour of "Peru" or "Peru's squad"; I've left it in the header and first sub-section (Beginnings) for context; perhaps someone can expand upon this a little; |
|||
* There's probably some information cross-over between games and tournaments in the 'History' section and elsewhere; that would need some careful reading that's a little beyond my copy-editing remit; |
|||
*Should we refer to the team as a whole as "it" or "they"? I used "they" out of habit, but the article has mixed usage at the moment. The MOS says we should use plural pronouns "they" and "are" for British English and singular "it" and "is" for US English. I'll change this to US-style, as US spelling is used throughout; feel free to revert (but don't forget to change the others!) if I'm wrong. (later note - I only found two examples of "they", which I've changed as needed). |
|||
*In 'Managers', there seems to be some confusion between managers and coaches. For example, was Jack Greenwell a manager or a coach? Greenwell's article says he was a manager, but that article's section on Peru says he 'guided' the team. In this article, we have: "Peru's squad was coached by English Jack Greenwell..." Also, beneath the table is: "Freddy Ternero was the manager during the 1997 Copa America; Juan Carlos Oblitas was the head coach". If Oblitas was head coach, why is he in the table of managers? |
|||
I hope my edits have improved the article. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 19:10, 2 October 2011 (UTC) |
|||
:Your edits have certainly been an improvement. The matter regarding "manager" and "coach" is confusing because "managers" tend to be head coaches of the national team as well. Some "managers" take the approach of only coaching the senior national team, while others get more involved with the youth squads as well. The issue mainly has to do with the lack of commitment or experience many of these "managers" have had for the national team. The few that were professionally dedicated to their work, Greenwell, Calderon, Pereira, accomplished great things but left as quickly as they came (Greenwell and Pereira for better fields, Calderon into the afterlife). Markarian seems to be following a similar dedicated process and that may end up working out, but considering the trend of the past good managers he won't last long.--<span style="color:red">MarshalN20</span> | <font color="Red">T</font><font color="Yellow">a</font><font color="Yellow">l</font><font color="Red">k</font> 20:34, 2 October 2011 (UTC) |

::::There are a finite number of sports in the planet, and a smaller number of team sports within that spectrum. In South America, the primary sports are football and volleyball (followed by basketball and tennis). |

::::Focusing on just football, and considering 10 members are in CONMEBOL, not many of these templates are necessary. :::::: Template:Peru Copa América Champion Squads can be embedded in this article like Template:Peru football squad 1936 Summer Olympics or Peru national football team#Olympic record. It is an aberration to generate bunches of templates composed of sub-templates. You said that Template:Peru Copa América Champion Squads might be used twice or thrice. But I don't think so. It is used only once in this article. If it is used in Football in South America, then a player Eusebio Acasuzo will be listed. :::When no English variety has been established and discussion cannot resolve the issue, the variety used in the first non-stub revision is considered the default. This article is written in British English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, travelled, centre, defence, artefact, analyse) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus. |

Question
[edit]I was looking at Peru national football team and I noticed there is another article just for Most capped and top goalscorers which usually in other articles included at the original article not separated like this. So should we move it to the Peru national football team's article ?also another article for the result since 2005 only.. any suggestions about this one also? thanks Adnan (talk) 23:15, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- Most sports articles of this type have a separate article for team records (you can see the entire category here: [1]). This information is already included in the article for the top 3 scorers and appearances (in the records & statistics section); the tables were seen as unnecessary additions. The results article is incomplete and needs further work. Regards.--MarshalN20 Talk 02:46, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
- @MarshalN20: ok no problem thank you :) Adnan (talk) 00:01, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
Infobox image
[edit]Why do all national team articles have as first image a badge? I think it should be of a squad, either current or from a golden era. The badge is a good image for the association, and indeed for Peruvian Football Federation it is the same image. The same problem exists for Scotland national football team, and since these 2 are FAs, all the other team pages are copying. But surely the reader expects to see players wearing the typical kit. So in the case of Peru I recommend we move the 1970 team image from the Colours section up to the top. Has this ever been discussed? Edwininlondon (talk) 07:56, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Edwin. All team (club and national) articles use the team badge as the first image. There does exist a Manual of Style for association football articles. Articles for the most part follow a guideline. The appropriate place to discuss changes to the style of articles is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football.--MarshalN20 Talk 14:50, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Current squad
[edit]Absolutely no need exists to have the terms "current squad" and "recent call-ups" as sub-section titles in the football team articles. @L1ghty: please desist from disruptive editing.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 16:28, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Bolivarian Games
[edit]According to the records from the RSSSF, Peru only fielded an official senior team at the 1938 competition. The source states: "This was the first and only time that full National Teams for every country took part in this tournament" ([2]). In the following edition, "Only Bolivia and Venezuela fielded their full National Teams." There is no indication that this changed in subsequent editions, until finally it became (officially) a U-17 football tournament.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 11:15, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

Panamerican Championship
[edit]I notice on the Brazil, Argentina, and Chile national football team articles, there is a mention of achievements at the Panamerican Championship, a now-defunct tournament which attempted to create an "Americas-wide championship". Peru finished fourth at the 1952 and 1956 editions. My question is, should it be mentioned in the article or added into the infobox template? 73.248.55.60 (talk) 17:37, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- That's a good point. I think it should be added into the infobox template. A subsection could, and probably should, also be created in the "Competitive Records" section as this was an official tournament by a major sports body.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 22:56, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

- Why are the results not displayed on the main page as per all other nation team articles? Felixsv7 (talk) 11:31, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- A specific article exists for results. See Peru national football team results (2020–present). There is no need to repeat the information from that article in this one.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 07:58, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- As someone who casually looks at pages like this. Having the previous year of matches on this page is common place on Wikipedia. There is a use of repeating it, its some of the most valuable information on the page. It makes no sense that only Peru doesn't have this information. Lacking this information makes this page significantly worse. Graveyjones5 (talk) 09:30, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
- This is not a news article about the Peru national football team. You are always welcome to use a search engine to read about any recent games played by Peru. - All other national pages list the recent results and upcoming fixtures and it is consistent with Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/National teams. Where was it decided that fixtures wouldn't be included on this page? Felixsv7 (talk) 14:50, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- During the Featured Article Review process, the list of fixtures was removed as there was no standard as to what should be displayed. Users generally only wanted to see results when the team was performing favorably, whereas they removed it when the team was performing unfavorably. Users would also edit war over the date ranges, attempting to display as many favorable results as possible. All of these inconsistencies and disputes are what prompted its removal during the review process. A separate list-article has been created for those records.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 20:32, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Also, it's worthy highlighting that the above template is specifically presented as a proposal. It is not a norm. We encourage using that format for basic articles. Once they become more professional encyclopedic entries, the format can be adjusted based on the peer review.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 20:35, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- But it does provide a standard for the date ranges to be displayed which was highlighted as the original issue. There is no dispute or inconsistency therefore it should be fine to reinstate. Felixsv7 (talk) 08:26, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
- There are other reasons as well. Off the top of my head I remember also accessibility and page size being an issue. Now that there are separate list articles, adding that here would make a content fork. Anyways, thanks for the concern. I have already explained here why the table is and should not be added into this article. Have a great day.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 14:14, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
- You've explained your opinion on the matter but it seems as though more users are in favour of including the Results and Fixtures on the main article. It would add 15,000 bytes which wouldn't balloon the size significantly (comparing it to other national team articles) and accessibility has been addressed in the construction of the format of the Results and Fixtures. Unless there are other users that feel similarly, the WP: Consensus, not only in this conversation but also amongst all other national team articles, would be to include the Results and Fixtures for the preceding year and matches that have been scheduled to take place. Felixsv7 (talk) 09:35, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, but that is not how consensus works in Wikipedia. To reiterate, this article has gone through a review process to meet the guidelines (criteria). This means that experienced editors have offered revisions and approved, by consensus, the article as an FA. Consensus is not arbitrarily adding the results list on this page because of what a few random contributors express. Competence matters. You can always submit this article again for review if you deem it does not meet the criteria. Have a good day.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 08:41, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/National teams is not a few random contributors but an interested group of editors forming a best practice for national teams. I've looked through the conversations prior to this page receiving GA status and they don't mention a Results and Fixtures section. I understand that you've been editing this page for fifteen years therefore have a particular interest in it but the opinion of other users should also be considered. Felixsv7 (talk) 17:09, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- GA status was a significant stepping stone. I am referring to the Featured Article Review. Regards.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 22:37, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Again, there is no reference to Results and Fixtures on the Featured Article review. Though it does include you talking about following the guidelines set at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/National teams - the same guidelines that I'm suggesting that this page adheres to. Felixsv7 (talk) 06:39, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
This article went through multiple FA reviews, following the model of Scotland national football team at the time. We also do not include "head to head records" among other aspects of the proposal at that National Teams page you keep attempting to pass as some sacrosanct standard. This article will not be a content fork of the fixtures that already appear at Peru national football team results (2020–present). End of conversation. Have a good day.--MarshalN20 ✉🕊 15:10, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- I've read this page's reviews and Fixtures and Results weren't mentioned. If not then let's add the Fixtures and Results section as it appears to have WP:CONSENSUS, both within this discussion and in the WP:FOOTBALL community. Felixsv7 (talk) 15:46, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
