This is one of the images of postcards in the Gallery section. |

== Dimensions == |
The wikipedia entry for Mandel correctly states that "a majority of the French nude postcards were called postcards because of the size. They were never meant to be postally sent. It was illegal to send such images in the post". |
Info regarding the legal dimensions of a postcard would be helpful (see http://www.log-on.org/PC_Template.html) |
But this article is about postcards that were "..... intended for writing and mailing without an envelope." |
To the person that asked the above question: Since you have the link, why not use info from that link to add the info you wish to see on this wiki page? Postcard Cathy 00:31, 17 November 2006 (UTC) |

Because the Marionnette a fils image is only called a "postcard" because of its size, and because it was not designed to be sent through the mail, it isnt relevant to this exact wikipedia article. <!-- Template:Unsigned IP --><small class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:EA01:1090:CC4:CE8A:9F7C:BDAC (talk) 00:05, 26 March 2018 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

I would like to point out that "no more than 4-¼ inches high x 6 inches long x .016 inches thick;[1] (in metric; 12.7 cm x 8.9 cm)" is wrong: The conversion from inches to metric is incorrect. Since I don't know what the correct size is, I am not sure whether to fix the dimensions in metric or the Imperial units. == Major update == |
Hi all, |
I really don't think it is necessary to have nudity on the postcard page. I'm totally against censorship whenever there is a reason to include objectionable material. However, this is just gratuitous and does not help wikipedia. If you search for "boob" you might expect to see breasts, but if you search for "postcard".... |
I have made a large update to the article. I did not remove any content that was there previously. However, some of it was moved to new sections or rephrased and incorporated with citations. I also looked over the talk page to take concerns into consideration before making changes. Here is an overview of some of the changes made. |
So, I'm removing it. Let me know if anyone has an objection. |

* Structure: The article's structure and arrangement were refined which will hopefully allow for more consistent additions going forward. This mainly consisted of creating separate sections for individual countries, which now have subsections for history, country-specific topics (such as British seaside postcards), and standards--in that order. "Controversies" was expanded by adding a subsection on "Legalities and censorship"--other controversial topics can be added in different subsections. The arrangement of the last few sections was changed slightly as it seemed to flow better this way (Historical overview > Countries > Controversies > Historical value > Collecting). The section on "Free postcards" was very small, and moved into the glossary under "Advertising cards." Only minor tweaks were made to the glossary to make it more consistent and to add a few citations (it still could use more).<br> |
* Written Content: The total amount of content has roughly doubled. Much of the content previously was uncited, and there are still portions which remain uncited that I did not touch. However, the total number of citations has more than doubled from about 20 to 60. Content was added throughout, but especially for the "Historical overview" which I treated as an overview for all countries. Information which went "too far into the weeds" was moved to specific country sections, while still creating a detailed overview. Other sections were also expanded upon, such as the "United States", "Controversies", "Historical value", and "Collecting". Some country-specific sections could use more content, such as the non-existent "History" subsection for Russia (it only includes "Standards" currently). Other countries which are mentioned in the "Historical overview" like Austria and Germany, could also use sections. |
* Images: No images were removed. The arrangement was changed, to better fit the new article layout. One caption for the back of a card was changed as it referred to a postcard front which was no longer on the page. I also added an image of "Lipman's Postal Card" and a field postal from the Franco-Prussian War (which are specifically mentioned in the body). |

Thank you all, I hope everyone is receptive to this change. Absolutely willing to make modifications as you see fit. |

It's back. Like the vandal who can't stand to see a blank wall without writing on it, some people just have to force their improprieties on the rest of us, children, wives, and all. |

'seaside postcard' redirects here. a distinct subset of seaside postcards that is entirely missing is the saucy seaside postcard. Can some kind soul write something up on this ? it might be a uniquely british phenomenon, but there should be something to find on google at least. thanks <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by Ordew (talk • contribs) </span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> |

:Also, there is much more to the history of British postcards than saucy seaside postcards (which is the only aspect of postcards in the popular media). It would be nice to have a general world history of the postcard article with seperate articles for the history of postcards in the United States and United Kingdom. I have some thoughts to consider. |

Recently a teacher told me that one of the largest producers of postcards is Ireland. |

Postcards are possible because they are much cheaper than a photograph. |

CMYK versus RGB printing. |

However, these days, how much does a photograph cost versus a print? |

When did photographs come around? |

Major update
[edit]Hi all,
I have made a large update to the article. I did not remove any content that was there previously. However, some of it was moved to new sections or rephrased and incorporated with citations. I also looked over the talk page to take concerns into consideration before making changes. Here is an overview of some of the changes made.
- Structure: The article's structure and arrangement were refined which will hopefully allow for more consistent additions going forward. The section on "Free postcards" was very small, and moved into the glossary under "Advertising cards." Only minor tweaks were made to the glossary to make it more consistent and to add a few citations (it still could use more).
- Written Content: The total amount of content has roughly doubled.
- Images: No images were removed.
